The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.
Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams |

This is not to say that she was not a vessel, but He is not of her, not her egg. Then why did God pick a woman? Why not just create Jesus as he did Adam?

Then why did God pick a woman? Why not just create Jesus as he did Adam? That's God's call and not for us to embellish but it was a special gift to Israel to bring Him to us. Hence all the verses about Israel being the woman in the sun in Rev or the Mother of us all, or the first born.

Yeah, he is of God, we know that. But he was born of Mary ... you can't deny that.Sure we can. He was born of God; the Scriptures say repeatedly that He was made of a woman.
I think you're digging a little bit to say that verse is "ant-Mary."
Anti-Marian doctrine, actually. Nothing against Mary, of course (just those who elevate her).

Here's to another year.
Although the longer this thread lasts the more I become convinced that Purgatory may indeed be real. ;^)

He was born of God; the Scriptures say repeatedly that He was made of a woman. Your point before was so subtle that I missed it. This is very good! Infact it's hugh.

Heb 7:3 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually. Isn't this referring to Melchizedek?
Yes but it is paralleling Jesus. I should add a few more comments to clarify. Melchizedek is a type of Christ and in this case Melchizedek's priesthood which is not based on blood but on merrit. Mekchizedek is even more a picture of the Lord in that he has neigher father nor mother nor beginning of days nor end of life. Yet another way that Marianism is completely unraveled by scripture.

You guys think we could debate the mormons with out all the name calling and the pulled posts? Its something we haven't done yet. What ya think?

They are so entrenched in and dedicated to their tradition -- in this case, that Mary contributed her ovum -- that they flatly refuse to open their eyes to see that there is rather compelling biblical evidence to suggest their tradition is wrong.

If my facts are right, you might want to pursue a trilateral agreement. ;-)

Heb 7:3 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually. Isn't this referring to Melchizedek? I read it as referring to a non-hereditary priesthood, and so it applies either to Melchizedek or to Our Lord. --------

Yet another way that Marianism is completely unraveled by scripture. This does not follow from what you are saying. "Mark" says nothing about the virgin birth or Joseph, but he does say that Jesus is the son of Mary.
To: PayNoAttentionManBehindCurtain
Why not? I must say, however, that it is almost as hard to find common ground as it is to find it with Muslims.
To: RobbyS
This does not follow from what you are saying. "Mark" says nothing about the virgin birth or Joseph, but he does say that Jesus is the son of Mary. Jesus is certainly the Son of Mary and Joseph. But Mary is not the many things she is ascribed to be.

Orthodox Christianity has never admitted that Jesus is the son of Joseph. He is son of God, son of Mary; true God and true man. Now that is a paradox, like so many things about Jesus. And If what Luke tells us is true, then she is as much above Elizabeth as Jesus is above John.

And If what Luke tells us is true, then she is as much above Elizabeth as Jesus is above John. Luke 2:41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.
Luke 2:48 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.

And If what Luke tells us is true, then she is as much above Elizabeth as Jesus is above John.If so, Mary is equal with Jesus. Mary is God. Interesting.
Biblewonk, here's that Trinity Quadnity thing again.
