Over the years I’ve seen what has turned into many epic Catholic-bashing threads. Protestants dump on you, but you don’t give up. Not the case for weak, Sunday-keeping, dispensationalist, Robert “commandment” Breaker groupies. They are frightened easily, and of course their skin is paper thin, so the slightest word or idea thrown their way that they don’t like causes massive bruising (metaphorically of course). They usually end up saying “DO NOT POST TO ME AGAIN!” They could simply ignore the post, but instead they call out “DO NOT POST TO ME AGAIN!” Why do you suppose they do that? What are they afraid of? Does their blood pressure rise critically when they see a ping?

The Adventists are the only body of Christians with the Bible as their teacher, who can find no warrant in its pages for the change of day from the seventh to the first. Hence their appellation, “Seventh-day Adventists”. For the purposes of its examination, I have used the 2003 edition that I purchased in the Pacific Press Publishing Association bookstore in Nampa, Idaho. The CWB is a very loose paraphrase
A paraphrase is an expanded adaptation of the biblical text designed to help clarify what the original says. The proper intention of any biblical paraphrase should be to remain faithful to the text and to expand on it, not alter it, and certainly not to contradict the original meaning. The preface to the Clear Word Bible says, “The Clear Word is not a translation, but a devotional paraphrase of Scripture expanded for clarity…It should not be considered a study Bible.” The same preface mentions paraphrases such as “Phillips’ New Testament in Modern English, Taylor’s The Living Bible, and Peterson’s The Message.” “Each translation or paraphrase has proved beneficial in its own way to bring readers a clearer understanding of God’s magnificent gift to a fallen race…A writer’s own understanding of a biblical text will surface in a paraphrase, but it also occurs in translations written by a group of scholars. However, every attempt has been made to allow the Bible to interpret itself.” [emphasis added]
This is interesting and problematic since in many places the CWB does not allow the Bible to interpret itself, but in fact, drastically alters the original verses when they don’t fit SDA theology. Is it a good paraphrase? I would say no.
The following links show the prejudicial treatment the biblical text is given in favor of Seventh-day Adventist theology.
Please note that I have underlined words and phrases in the analysis for easier comparison. I have used the NASB (New American Standard Bible) as a comparison text since it is intended to be as literal a translation as possible from the Hebrew and Greek.
Finally, I have a question. If the SDA theology is so biblical, then why does the CWB drastically alter so many of the biblical texts?

In the 9’th chapter of the Book of Daniel, the clear word bible added 300 words to the Holy Scriptures. A blatant example of this can be seen in Daniel chp 8:14 when they also pervert the Gospel.
The seven versions are: The Clear Word Bible, ©1994,2 The Clear Word, ©1994,3 The Clear Word, ©2003,4 The Clear Word, ©2004 (Pocket edition),5 The Easy English Clear Word, ©2005,6 The Clear Word for Kids, ©2005,7 and Savior (The Clear Word version of the gospels, combined into one narrative), © 2008.8 The Clear Word Bible, original edition, has never been recalled or rejected by the Seventh-day Adventist organization. Although some changes have occurred to the text, the church has not publicly called for the original to be removed from circulation. Because the changes to the text in many cases are not directly doctrinal, recalling the early editions would not change the status of this work.
After receiving criticism for the title, the publisher removed the word “Bible” from the original The Clear Word Bible, and the words “An Expanded Paraphrase” were added to subsequent printings. These subsequent versions are not just reprintings with modifications to the title. They are different versions containing numerous changes to content throughout the books. Most modern publishers will be honest with their readers, indicating changes to content or revision of materials when books are reprinted. The Review and Herald Publishing Association, however, provides no statement to this effect, leaving the reader to believe that he/she has the same document in hand with only modifications to the title. In the publishing world, this lack of disclosure is tantamount to lying.
What is truly shocking, however, are not the changes, but the problematic passages that have remained. Although the back cover of The Clear Word indicates that the author/paraphraser is allowing “the power of the ancient texts [to] come through”, he does not indicate that the texts are coming through a very strong Adventist theological lens, replete with quotes and paraphrases from the writings of Ellen G. White. Following we will examine how three Adventist teachings regarding food, Sabbath, and hell have shaped Blanco’s thinking resulting in inaccurate wording of the “biblical” text. Then we will look at ten texts dealing with the nature of God.

TYPES OF TRANSLATIONS
At the risk of oversimplification, there are three main categories of Bible translations.
1. Essentially literal: These translations retain much of the form and structure of the original language and provide a word-for-word translation to the greatest degree possible. Translations in this category include King James Version (KJV), New King James Version (NKJV), New American Standard Bible (NASB), English Standard Version (ESV), and the Revised Standard Version (RSV).
2. Dynamic equivalence: These translations employ a “thought-for-thought” approach that conveys the essential meaning of the original authors. Concepts and metaphors less widely known to modern-day readers are frequently rephrased. Translations in this category include New International Version (NIV), Today’s New International Version (TNIV), New International Reader’s Version (NIrV), New Living Translation (NLT), New Century Version (NCV), and the Contemporary English Version (CEV).
3. Free paraphrase: Paraphrases take great liberty with the biblical text and seek to convey the meaning of the author using contemporary phrases and metaphors. The best-known paraphrases are The Clear Word (Clear Word), The Living Bible (TLB), and The Message (Message).
Adding 300 words to Daniel 9 in a “FREE PARAPHRASE” bible, using “contemporary phrases and metaphors”? So what? That’s not adding to or taking away from the bible in any way, shape, or form.
