The Pope has given the King two fragments from the True Cross - said to have been used in the crucifixion of Jesus Christ - to mark his Coronation.
The relic, described as a “personal gift” from Pope Francis to His Majesty, was formally presented to the Royal Household by Vatican representatives at the Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace last week.
In what was hailed a “significant ecumenical gesture”, the King requested that the shards be incorporated into a new processional cross that he commissioned for the Church in Wales to celebrate its centenary before becoming monarch.
Both fragments are shaped as crosses, one measuring 1cm and the other 5mm. They have now been set into the larger silver cross behind a rose crystal gemstone.
On the day of his Coronation, the cross will be used to lead the procession into Westminster Abbey, a decision said to reflect the King’s “deep and long standing affection for Wales”.

I’m wondering if they are pieces of the actual Cross which Jesus Christ was crucified on, and if so, I’m amazed they were able to preserve them.
WHAT???? He has NO RIGHT to give something so SACRED to ANYONE especially not a leader of another Church!
I think I might have given Chuck a Douay-Rheims Bible and the Catechism of the Council of Trent.

Since parted out into lots of relics ... and unfortunately, mostly lost.
Many so called relics were searched for and preserved by St Helena, mother of Constantine. More were dug up by the Knights Templar over the centuries. The authenticity of any of these is highly debated
If the cross was so sacred that it shouldn’t be parceled out to anyone, then Jesus should have taken it with him.

I’m not in the business of telling Jesus what he “should have done”.
It’s not a course of action I would recommend to others.
Emporer Constantine the Great’s mother, Helena, who was a devout Christian made a pilgrimage to Jerusalem in 326 - and supposedly found the “True Cross” (as well as those belonging to the two theives)
She commission a church built around them (The Church of the Holy Sepulchre) and there were, fragments of the True Cross distributed to various churches and kings around europe.
The True Cross was supposedly lost when Muslims burned the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in the 11th century
Those things don’t even matter. There isn’t a spot in the Bible telling Christians to seek out artifacts or to hold them to any esteem at all.

Point is, it doesn’t matter. Belief matters. Trinkets are just that.
