On August 14, The Atlantic published a blasphemous article by Daniel Panneton titled, “How Extremist Gun Culture Is Trying to Co-Opt the Rosary.” In it, he tries to portray the sacramental, first promoted by Saint Dominic, as an extremist far-right symbol that poses a violent threat to society. Here are some of the things the author said in his article:
* Attacking those who faithfully recite the Rosary in reparation for sin, he stated that “armed radical traditionalists have taken up a spiritual notion that the rosary can be a weapon in the fight against evil and turned it into something dangerously literal.”
* He considers the Rosary a tool that radical-traditional Catholics use to “literally demonize their political opponents and regard the use of armed force against them as sanctified.”
* He openly links the sacramental to “conspiratorial politics and absolutist gun culture.”
These attacks are not only offensive to faithful Catholics who devoutly recite the Rosary, but also distort the nature of the holy Rosary itself! He blasphemously reduces the Rosary to a good luck charm appropriated by an extremist fringe.
This dishonorable attack against the Rosary must be opposed. Please, join me in protest!
Thank you. And may Our Lady reward you!
Libs NEVER apologize. They just say they’re sorry. Sorry you aren’t smart enough to understand their view point.
Telling them to their face they are bigots.
Doing so is a good thing.
It removes the mask of "niceness" they use to deceive, harm, destroy.
Toronto-based writer Daniel Panneton, who wrote the lengthy op-ed originally titled "How the Rosary Became an Extremist Symbol" for The Atlantic, has made quite a career out of researching so-called "hate." In fact, Panneton is the manager of the Online Hate Research & Education Project (OHREP), an 18-month venture funded by a generous $340,000 grant from the Canadian government's Anti-Racism Action Program.
I don’t even consider outlets like the Atlantic or the subhumans at MSNBC etc human. They really are not. They may look human, but they are even worse than hyenas.
Not worth wasting too much time over them.
Mother Mary will get those blasphemers for that!
Why “must” they apologize?
Their hatred of Christ and Christianity is well known, which if you look into their editorial staff is unsurprising.
Expecting them to apologize for their heartfelt beliefs is unreasonable. Instead, you should learn from the experience. Christ haters are still fairly adept at concealment, be glad they revealed themselves on this occasion.
Counterpoint: The author Daniel Panneton is a moron for writing this stupid article and The Atlantic is stupid for publishing it ... but ... it is far more effective to make fun of their idiocy (people will laugh with you) than to cry blasphemy.
Yeah, I’ve got about a half-dozen rosaries, and they’ve never hurt anyone.
Prayer beads are violent? Really?
Good point...I (not a Mormon) feel the same about the usual bashing of Mormonism by a small number of Freepers, when some “Romney” posts appear.
But IF your rosaries and guns get together, all bets are off. As the Atlantic has pointed out, they may go off on a ballistic tangent and hunt down sinners and such all by their selves. Now that would be interesting. Unlike the Atlantic.
It would be even more effective to get those old Rosary beads out of the dresser drawer, dust them off, and start praying the Rosary again!
Ping
for millions of believers, the beads, which provide an aide-mémoire for a sequence of devotional prayers, are a widely recognized symbol of Catholicism and a source of strength.
The sacramental rosary isn’t just a spiritual weapon but one that comes with physical ammunition... The rosary—in these hands—is anything but holy.
In 2016, the pontifical Swiss Guard accepted a donation of combat rosaries; during a ceremony at the Vatican, their commander described the gift as “the most powerful weapon that exists on the market.”
Just when you think absurdity has hit an upper bound, the idiots find a way to break through that ceiling and set themselves a new upper bound. Wow. Stupid. Wonder if hanging rosaries like talismen will keep away idiots.
I'm not sure that it's a "distinctive" RC teaching. I think Orthodox Christians also pray to the saints in Heaven, including to the Virgin Mary.
Their opening gambit is always slander.
Correct: I was focusing on RCs here.
The left is out of their stinking minds.
Why are people getting so upset at this absurdity? It just gives validation to them.
They should be rightfully mocked instead. The left has no sense of humor and cannot stand to be made fun of. It fries them when no one takes them seriously.
