More than 60% of born again Christians in America between the ages of 18 and 39 believe that Buddha, Muhammad and Jesus are all valid paths to salvation and over 30% say they either believe that Jesus sinned just like other people when He lived on Earth or aren’t sure, according to a new study.
There’s a “striking decline” in evangelical religious beliefs and practices over the last 10 years, as the number of self-proclaimed believers to hold these beliefs has increased by nearly 25%, says Probe Ministries in a statement announcing the results of its Religious Views & Practices Survey.
The study, which interviewed 3,100 Americans ages 18 to 55 in 2020 and looked at various other previous studies, saw a drop in “basic biblical worldview” — God’s attributes, the accuracy of the Bible, salvation and Jesus being sinless — from 47% in 2010 to 25% in 2020 among born again Christians.
The drop in the “expanded biblical worldview” — beliefs about Satan and morals being objective — went from 32% in 2010 to 16% in 2020.
“So, the percentage of Born Again Christians with a biblical worldview (of either type) has been cut in half over the last decade,” says the study, which compared the 18–29 age group from 2010 with the same age group 10 years later, now 30–39. “This result is a startling degradation in worldview beliefs of Born Again Christians over just 10 years.”
This means, even born-again Christians “can have a false view of Jesus Christ and embrace a pluralistic worldview,” Kerby Anderson, president of Probe Ministries, said. “Pastors and church leaders just can’t assume any longer that the members of their church or Christian organization have a biblical worldview.”
There’s an even greater drop off among the general population, the study found. For the basic biblical worldview, there’s a drop off from 13% to 6%. For the expanded biblical worldview, the decline is from 9% to just over 3%.
Anderson attributed the change to the continual and growing influence of media.
“These disturbing trends are, yes, due to pastors not consistently teaching biblical theory. But they can also be attributed to young Christians who are not paying attention, who are focused — nearly exclusively, it seems — on their phones, social media and other content they deem more compelling,” he said.
The study suggests, Anderson said, that “we have to continue to explain the cost of salvation ... that there is no way to salvation, other than through the sacrificial and atoning death of a sinless Christ. That no one can come to the Father except through the Son, but also that anyone may come through Him.”
An article about the study’s findings on the Probe Ministries website notes that in the Roman Empire in AD 60, biblical worldview Christians accounted for less than 1% of the population. “Three hundred years later, virtually the entire empire was at least nominally Christian.”
“If we will commit ourselves to ‘proclaiming the excellencies of Him who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light,’ God will bring revival to our land,” it adds.
Some folks use this stuff to make themselves feel more pious, more Christian, and…superior. As if their faith should mean more than yours.
It’s funny, I fully believe when we pass to the next realm there will be a special section for the people who have memorized the manual..but have no clue about the purpose of life.
They infect this forum.
Surveys are designed to drive an agenda. Disregard surveys reported in the media. It is all propaganda.
My seventy -five years old Lady cousin explained to me just the other day that there are many ways to God, Jesus being one of them ... like spokes on a wheel with God in the center as the hubb. She calimes to be Catholic, so I count it service to the talking mule on her behalf.
Ask me why we are in such deep trouble.
There is no downside to accepting Christ, but plenty for rejecting him.
Some people think that Christians are not allowed to have any fun, and that they have to go to church twice on Sundays and also on weeknights for church activities. They think of Christianity as taking over their lives.
I don’t agree with this viewpoint, but am saying I have heard this, especially from younger people, that being Christian means you give up a lot of fun in life.
2 Corinthians 5:17
For sure.
Nice try, Troll.
Those two guys are dead and buried but Yeshua lives!!!
I wonder if they ever considered THE person MOST knowedgeable on the subject:
Jesus saith unto him, I am THE way, THE truth, and THE life: NO MAN cometh unto the Father, but by me. John14:6
i agree- they don’t think Christians are nothing but sinners who are saved, but who still sin-
The reality is that ‘fun’ is slavery- to desires, passions, lusts, rebellion etc- short term ‘fun’ = long term bondage- but it’;s hard to see past the immediate gratifications to recognize the long term effects- or to realize that their brand of freedom is really enslavement to the baser instincts in life- which in the end don’t bring contentment, but usually heartache and misery (STD’s Broken marriages, broken relationships, good money being thrown away on useless things- kids going without because parents piss it all away whooping it up on the weekends- hurting others- etc etc etc- usually selfish short term gratifications affect others negatively somehow-
They don’t realize that ‘fun’ can’t fill the empty void i n their life- all it can do at best is pass the time while awaiting the grave- -
I guess you slept through it ...
someone is going to be hating death!
In order to get to salvation, you have to have a pathway to God. Christ is the only way, the only truth, and the only life. And he that believes in him will never die. Mohammad and Budda offered nothing but blathering pletheras of philosophy. Jesus is God. Mohammad and Budda are nothing.
Zero percent of Born Again Christians believe that tripe.
If you believe that, you aren’t Born Again.
In fact, you aren’t a Christian.
I agree about the use of the term.
However, anyone who is born again by the Spirit of God as described by Jesus is a true, Biblical Christian.
The problem is that many identify as Christian because they are not Catholic, Jewish, atheist, or muslim.
They are essentially cultural Christians not true Christians.
"Born again" does not necessarily equate to "evangelical" and the latter does not necessarily equate to what it originally was overall used to denote. See
As shown, Born Again Protestants have a far greater percentage, over 85%, stating that Jesus was crucified to purchase our redemption. One would suspect that all Protestant and Catholic leaders would want their people to know that Jesus’ death on the cross was for their redemption. Yet, less than two thirds of each group selected that answer.
As shown, just over two thirds of Born Again Protestants strongly agree that Jesus will return to save . Meaning that almost one third of them are not absolutely sure of Jesus return. For other Christian groups, only about one third of them strongly agree with this statement.
four out of five respondents who aff iliated with Other Protestant or Catholic beliefs do not strongly believe that Jesus lived a sinless life.
To determine who was a pluralist , we asked what the respondents thought about the following two statements : 1. Muhammad, Buddha and Jesus all taught valid ways to God. Answers from Disagree S trongly to Agree S trongly 2. I believe that the only way to a true relationship with God is through Jesus Christ. Answers f rom Disagree S trongly to Agree S trongly
all religious groups other than Born Again Christian all congregate around 5% to 15 %. So, for all these groups around one in ten people take a strong non - pluralistic view. Or turning it around, about 9 out of 10 of them are pluralists. The real shocker jumping from this page is that over 60% of Born Again Christians are also pluralists.
, we asked this second question in a slightly different way but with the same intent : “I believe that the only way to a true relationship with God is through Jesus Christ.”
Born Again Christians are at least twenty - five percentage points higher for this second question....the survey respondents show us that one does not have to give answers which logically support one another.
Back in my youth, I read all sorts of religious & occult texts: Tibetan & Egyptian Books of the Dead, Bhagavad-Gita, I Ching, Crowley, Gurdjieff, Koran, Ourboros, Qabbalah, Rosicrucianism, Confucianism, Tao, Krishna Consciousness, Bible (including Apochrypha), Arthurian Grail tales and other mystical romances of the era, Myths of the Babylonians, Greeks, Romans, Zoroastrians, the list goes on.
They all have “rules” (if you will) about how to live a good life, be a good person, etc.
I was the writings of C.S. Lewis that turned me back to my Christian upbringing. It is through Christ that one may be redeemed/forgiven. Call it what you will, it’s a turning of one’s heart and soul.
