Biden attends first Sunday Mass as President

President Joe Biden attended Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Washington, DC's Georgetown neighborhood, his first time attending Sunday Mass since taking his oath of office.

Biden is the second Catholic president in US history, and weekly Mass is expected to be a fixed part of his schedule. That's a level of devotion to regular religious services not seen from recent presidents, who were professed Christians but intermittently attended church or worshipped privately while in office.

And while it's unclear whether he will adopt a permanent parish in Washington during his term, Biden's churchgoing will provide a window into how his spiritual side aligns with his politics.

Biden was inside Holy Trinity for at least 35 minutes and his grandchildren, Maisy and Finnegan, and his son, Hunter, accompanied the President to Sunday's service. Asked how the service was, he replied, "Lovely."

Biden's motorcade then made a stop at Call Your Mother, a popular bagelry-deli in the area, to pick up an order. Call Your Mother retweeted a video of the motorcade on Sunday and called the visit a "GREAT Sunday surprise."

When I was young, daily Masses were scheduled 6:30, 7:00, 7:30 and 8:00.

All were High Masses and they were in Latin.

The local Catholic parish a large one, had an upstairs sanctuary and a downstairs smaller plain sanctuary. The downstairs sanctuary had low masses at 6.15, 7.10, 8.00, 9.05, and 10. In Latin.

The upstairs sanctuary had masses at 9.00, 10 and 11. All high masses and a 8 15 low mass.

Since I’ve been locked up in the man cave back in march, we have had mass on TV from Saint Maria Del Mar CC in Flagler Beach...u can see it on Utube and if you got to their UTube page, you can see how many masses have been less that 40 min. Father Manny is a trip. Peace be with you..

Jill was not raised Catholic, so her first marriage was probably not valid in the Church’s eyes. Joe and Jill married in a Catholic ceremony, so it must be valid. She probably converted to Catholicism.

I have no clue about Hunter whether he first married in the Church or not. He probably doesn’t have an annulment, which is probably why he didn’t marry his Jewish second wife in the Church. Or maybe she didn’t want a Catholic wedding.

It’s possible he went to Mass and declined communion. Catholics and nonCatholics can attend Mass.

Daily Mass is always a Low Mass unless it is a first class feast day, in which case it might be a High Mass. Specific things are required for a High Mass.
