Dan Gibson introduces a new on-line tool that takes visitors on a tour through the Islamic places in Petra. Gibson explains that the original place names in Petra have been lost over the centuries, and that most of the place names are from the last several hundred years. Then using the descriptions of the earliest Islamic places, this tool takes the viewers through the Islamic places in Petra, including AlAqsa in Jiranah, Zamzam, the Ka'ba, the Cave of Hira, Arafat mountain, the Plains of Arafat, Muzdalifah , Mina, Jumrat, and the temple of Hubal and Alat. My son was at the embassy in Amman for 15 months. Went there three times and highly recommends it. Wife and i went to Israel for a week and i wanted to go to Petra. She wouldn’t go to an Arab country or arab controlled are. So no Petra and no Bethlehem.

Every Christian alive OUGHT to go to Bethlehem, Our Lord's birthplace, and then to Calvary.
In the fourth century there were SO many people visiting Mount Calvary that the Romans TOOK DOWN THE HILL.
The outcome is that the site of the Cross and the Tomb of Jesus are on the same level not far from each other.
My friend and I did both, Bethlehem and Calvary. We also went up top to where the Transfiguration took place. THAT had a fabulous view as well.
We had to have our passports ready to show the Israeli Security almost every few miles. The Israeli Army was everywhere as well.
The country is, if nothing else, safe.
We also learned that there aren't enough Jewish Israelis to do all the work. They WON'T wash toilets. But, the Muslim Arabs will, so many of them have Jewish bosses...but they DO have a job.
And the way people are in life, the boss and the employee learn to work together and appreciate each other.
The Roman Catholic Palestinian Arabs, and that's what they call themselves, are the go-between people. They are ARABS but they aren't Muslim; they are ROMAN Catholics. That was a very weird thing to grasp. But, it happens there--the confluence of Judaism, Islam and Catholicism.
Our leader was Steve Ray, a former Baptist minister and covert to Catholicism. And there is NO one with more fervor than a convert!
It was a FABULOUS tour. Steve Ray does four trips a year to the "Holy Land." It's well worth the trip.

When we went to get to Beth you left the Israel control area and were stopped by the Israelis. Then you were stopped by the Arabs. No Jewish tour leaders or vehicles beyond that point. On the way back it is reversed.
Did you enjoy your trip? Take lots of photos, buy lots of postcards? I hope so.

We did Masada, Capharnem, Nazareth, River Jordan, Dead Sea and a lot of time in the old city.
Stayed at an apartment by the incredible Yehuda Market.
Amazing place. It wasn’t me with the flag and it was a complete surprise to me. I was with a church group visiting Jordan and Israel. The flag was Canadian but i was just soaking in the view and being very wary not to get too close to the edge because one slip and its time for the big adios. We were on the roof of that centre turret section. I have a vhs video somewhere of some highlights of the trip and that flag moment is on it.
I went on the trip with an old friend. She's a Presbyterian, I think. She doesn't attend any church. Hasn't in a long time.
She loved the tour. She and I got to go into Jesus' Tomb together...alone with His Tomb. It was UNFORGETTABLE for both of us.
Her son became a Catholic at 60 years of age. He said it was the only faith that made sense. He married a lapsed Catholic and now they BOTH attend Mass regularly.
Nice to have a happy ending.
I'll be visiting my old friend in Texas in May.

My husband had one of the first video cameras. way back in 1981 I think. He put them all on CD's.
When we visited China no one there had seen the new video cameras.
When we visited India, at the Taj Mahal, the Indians wanted to charge us $50.00 for the "big camera." Hah! My husband turned on the video then hung it from his waist. NO WAY was he going to pay those thieves. Charging to bring in a camera? To take a picture of the Taj Mahal? Are they insane? No, just greedy,.,
Most tourist attractions that sell their own postcards are likely to do that.
yes, a reading of the Qu’ran tells one that they were most likely talking about Petra, not the little oasis town called Mecca.
And Mohammad is a title meaning “the praise-worthy one” - a title used by a heretic sect of part-Christians who believed Jesus was just a prophet
