Commitment to Fighting Climate Change Still Weak, Pope Says

ROME - The international community must ramp up its efforts if it expects to mitigate the negative effects of climate change, Pope Francis said.

In a video message sent Sept. 23 to participants at the U.N. Climate Action Summit in New York, the pope said that while the 2015 Paris climate agreement raised awareness of the “need for a collective response,” the commitments made by countries “are still very weak and are far from achieving the objectives set.”

“It is necessary,” he said, “to ask whether there is a real political will to allocate greater human, financial and technological resources to mitigate the negative effects of climate change and to help the poorest and most vulnerable populations, who suffer the most.”

According to its website, the goal of the U.N. Climate Action Summit is to “ensure the global focus on climate gains momentum” as well as to make sure that “there is scrutiny on the investments countries are making in fossil fuels vs. renewables.”

Calling climate change “one of the most serious and worrying phenomena of our time,” the pope said that states have a duty to fight against it and that despite the weak response, a “window of opportunity is still open.”

“We are still in time. Let us not let it close. Let us open it with our determination to cultivate integral human development, to ensure a better life for future generations. It is their future, not ours,” the pope said.

God I hope so. Means the world still has half a brain.

I think that brain is being slowly siphoned off however.

Soon, they’ll fall for anything.

I truly miss Catholicism, and priests I’ve known who were / are driven by a faith much, much deeper than the superficiality of politically correct religion.

I suggest he sell off assets of the Vatican and the Catholic Church, and then use the money to buy carbon credits with Al Gore. Maybe that will set his mind at ease.

This Pope seems to be attempting to reorient the Church to worship a different god. Francis’s god is Humanity, I think. It puts me in mind of something I read years ago. Liberals’ god is mankind and Liberals think they are god’s brain.

LOL. Better yet install solar on St. Peter’s, open doors to papal palace and live in the homeless camps in Rome.

We have had bad popes before but their orientation was toward politics and family enrichment. They did not try to alter doctrine or to replace God with a pantheon of lesser enthusiasms. They were like a wart on the skin, unsightly but merely cosmetic in effect, not a cancer within.

Maybe so.

But it’s magnitudes beyond the Pope’s (sic) efforts to root out the lavender mafia. Which he supports, so no surprise there.

What burns me is that President Trump made an amazing speech calling out religious persecution and who does this nincompoop heap praise on? A 16 year old half-wit puppet of the left

So true, Other Holy Father, so true.

I am glad you're focusing on the important issues facing the Church: Our future.

The situation is dire: Capitalism. Global warming. The collapse of ecosystems. Male chauvinism. Intolerant Pro-Lifers and anti-LGBT heterosexuals. Refusal to adopt Green Energy solutions. Faster and faster, the world is coming to an end.

If there's a bright side, though, Father, I hear "climate change" might screw my kids before your priests can get to them!

It’s the case for global warming that’s weak, Mr. Pope.

The Catholic Church as we know it is rotting away and is just another wing of the globalist left.
