In the Bible, Jesus and Paul lay out the guidelines for Marriage.
Neither of them were ever married.
Hate to play devil's advocate, but, well, they just don't know what marriage is like.
It’s a shame that there aren’t any other churches these people can go to if they don’t like the one they have. Gotta ruin everything.
Paul was married at one time. It was a requirement for the Sanhedrin.
Exactly. I dont want marriage suggestions from people who dont get laid.
Which is not the same as marriage counseling.
Single people have NO concept about what marriage is all about and are absolutely unqualified to prepare others for marriage.
I think Jesus understood marriage just fine, and no one can dogmatically state that Paul was never married.
While he was single at the time of his writing the epistles, that doesnt mean he had never been married.
We don’t know that Paul was never married.
1 Timothy 3:4-5 shows that Paul made the point that if an overseer does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of Gods church?
Insights welcome.
Good advice!
Neither of them were ever married.
No one knows if Paul was ever married...Paul received his instructions from Jesus, who is God...
It's funny you would reference Jesus when he instructed Paul to tell us exacty what that cardinal tells you, that no Catholic clergy is qualified to instruct in marriage if he hasn't lived it...
Too true -
“In the Bible, Jesus and Paul lay out the guidelines for Marriage. Neither of them were ever married.”
Two priests were particularly formative in my own life. One was an older Polish priest (Polish-American) who was a traditional never married priest. He was gruff, but with an incredible heart, and he was a wonderful man. The other was another incredible man who had been a teacher, married with children, until he and his wife were hit by a drunk driver. She died. He finished raising his kids, and then entered Seminary. He brought an entirely different perspective to the priesthood, and has been an incredible priest. I personally think it’s about the person. That said, I think it’s a lot to ask for parish priests to have the wisdom of Jesus or Paul.
One of those two was directly tutored out in the desert for years by God.
The other of those two is God.
Which modern priests does this also apply to?
And God bless him, Paul was right when he said its better to be unmarried.
Paul stated his opinions and told us they were his own opinions and not directed from "above"...
You have shown one of the problems with religions - those who entertain them manage to see what they want to see in the Bible and ignore the rest.
Question: Where in the Bible does it tell us that teachers were also preferred to be married heads of households with good records of managing their household? Maybe researching it may help....
Yes, and it seems that they did a good job till about 1965, for about 1900 years or so.
