Archbishop: ‘We Support’ Priest Who Came Out as ‘Gay’ in Sunday Homily

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin, December 20, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – With the approval of his archbishop, a Catholic priest announced to his parish and to the world that he is a homosexual during Sunday Mass.

The Rev. Gregory Greiten, a priest of the Milwaukee Archdiocese and pastor of St. Bernadette Parish, said, “I am Greg. I am a Roman Catholic priest. And, yes, I am gay!”

In a carefully crafted one-two punch, Greiten’s Sunday announcement was quickly followed on Monday by a lengthy column penned by the homosexual priest for the National Catholic Reporter (NCR).

Not once in the over 2,200 word NCR commentary did Greiten acknowledge the Lordship of Jesus Christ or his dedication to him; nor was the importance of repentance and confession mentioned. And while Greiten’s proclamation makes it abundantly clear he is “gay,” conspicuously absent is a declaration of personal chastity.

Milwaukee Archbishop approves homosexual pastor’s homily and NCR screed

In advance of the Sunday announcement, Milwaukee's archbishop, the Most Rev. Jerome Listecki, met with Greiten, who warned his superior of his plans. Rather than forbid or counsel against the priest’s actions, Listecki instead issued a statement backing his announcement.

“We support Father Greiten in his own, personal journey and telling his story of coming to understand and live with his sexual orientation,” said Listecki. “As the Church teaches, those with same-sex attraction must be treated with understanding and compassion. As priests who have made a promise to celibacy, we know that every week there are people in our pews who struggle with the question of homosexuality.”

Rejection of Church teaching on best pastoral response to homosexuality

The actions––and inactions––in the Milwaukee Archdiocese surrounding Greiten’s declaration challenge the Church’s teaching on the best pastoral practices concerning the same-sex attracted.

“The respect and sensitivity to which the Catechism rightly calls us does............

For quite some time, the Vatican has been aware of its gay mafia, of the drug-fueled gay sex parties in Vatican City, etc.

This makes the official position of the church authority: Gay is OK, We Look the Other Way.

It is no surprise that the authorities have no problem with gay revelations in a parish.

It is sad.

A real Church doesn’t have a “gay” person as a leader, even if he is not practicing. A Church leader must be above and beyond others in their spirituality and above reproach in their practices. Someone struggling with being “gay” can be accepted, loved, encouraged and supported in their endeavor to follow Christ, but they are not eligible to be a Church leader. Not every Christian is.

That being said I do not support the Catholic Church in the first place, as it is engulfed in way to many false doctrines and practices.

Will any journalist ask the archbishop how he wants to prevent a mistaken impression that homosexual acts are not immoral?

I still think he announced because he is looking for sex and doesn’t want his parishioners shocked if they see him smoothing other men...Otherwise,why bother saying anything???

So why “come out” if he plans to honor his vows?

I can’t figure out why gays think I care about or am interested in their sex lives anyways.

They know that normal people aren’t interested.

All I can see the advantage for someone coming out is to announce to new potential partners that they are available.

The serious problem here is that it appears that the bishop is buying into, and publicizing, the line, not established, that homosexuality is something a person is born with.

“Every week there are people in our pews who struggle with the question of homosexuality.” Projection. They wish.

Satan whispers in the ears of the easily-offended and says, “You are gay. You are attracted to…”

I heard this from a Protestant street preacher in Berkeley in 1985 and after studying Freud and Jung about trauma, I conclude that the preacher is correct.

The bishop is walking on thin ice above a pit of bad forces. The priest should go live in the desert and eat bread and water for a year before stepping on a church altar.

Church doctrine on vicious actions is accurate and only the vicious spit on Church doctrine.

Interesting article. Thank you.

“At least 300 U.S. priests suffered AIDS-related deaths between the mid-1980s and 1999.” 300 over a 15 years period is .01% of the fifteen million people that died of AIDS over the same period.

“For the wages of sin is death,” wrote St. Paul in Romans 6:23. Priests know it as well as anyone.

It is no surprise that the authorities have no problem with gay revelations in a parish.

That's because the 'authorities' are homos as well...

There’s nothing “unlikely” about the successive proliferation of eunuch parrots perched atop Akhenaten’s state-establishing self/sun-worshiping empire.

Same ol’ Ba’alShyte, different municipal toilet.
