The Venezuelan Episcopal Conference (CEV) has publicly invoked the intercession of the Virgin Mary to free the nation from the claws of communism, in a clear reference to the regime of President Nicolás Maduro.
Blessed Virgin, Mother of Coromoto, heavenly Patron of Venezuela, free our country from the claws of communism and socialism, the CEV posted on Twitter this Sunday, complete with an image of Santa Maria and a Venezuelan flag.

And Rahab!!!
And on down the line!
I took your post the wrong way above. Sorry.
Well, for the Roman Catholic.....
Huh??
WHAT 'request'??
Honor?
Woman; what's that got to do with ME?
The ONLY recorded words of Mary at Cana
And when the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to Him, They have no wine.
His mother said to the servants, Whatever He says to you, do it (John 2:3-5).
Sure it is. Because He told Mary His time had not come, yet He performed the miracle for Her, anyway.
I confess; that made me laugh.
When it comes to arguing, some are more resourceful—or is it tenacious?—than others. Still, if we all redouble our efforts to seek the truth, we may get somewhere yet by the grace of God.
We continue to try and post the Truth.
And you can prove his motivation to perform the miracle how, since it is not in the text?
One thing to bear in mind here: we are ALL commanded to honor our father and mother. It is, I believe, the fifth commandment? It is definitely the first commandment that comes with a promise: that your days may be prolonged, etc.
If Jesus honored His mother at the wedding feast, He was not green-lighting her veneration. He was merely obeying one of the preeminent commandments. If He made provision for her on the cross, likewise.
The commandment to honor father and mother applies to all. It doesn’t imply that every mother and father should be memorialized in man-made images that we bow down to. It simply means that we are obligated to follow God’s commands.
You are correct, but He did not need to perform a miracle in order to honor Mary.
Who gives a darn about the Ten Commandments? That's all Old Testament stuff that can now be ignored, according to some .
Sometimes it is necessary to drink more freely, to play and to jest and even to commit some sin (peccatum aliquod faciendum) out of hatred and contempt for the devil, so that he may get no chance of making a matter of conscience out of mere trifles; otherwise we shall be vanquished if we are too anxious about not committing sin. ... Oh that I could paint sin in a fair light, so as to mock at the devil and make him see that I acknowledge no sin and am not conscious of having committed any! I tell you, we must put all the Ten Commandments, with which the devil tempts and plagues us so greatly, out of sight and out of mind.Martin Luther
Well I can’t (even begin) to read Jesus’ mind, but I’ll say this. If I had brought the lack of wine to His attention, and the result was six enormous stone waterpots brimming with the finest wine, I would *feel* honored. You might suggest I shouldn’t, but that wouldn’t stop me. It would feel to me like an honor regardless.
John 2:11
“This beginning of His signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him.”
This is why Jesus performed the miracle in Cana.
It was a sign that showed His glory as Messiah and a sign to His disciples, who then “believed in Him.”
Luther-hate will get us nowhere. Jesus reiterated, iirc correctly, nine of the ten commandments. He assuredly reiterated the one re honoring one’s father and mother; He smacked the Pharisees down *hard* over it.
Then why did He proceed to do so, despite His statement that His time had not yet come?
I agree with you. Yet my prior post is not incompatible with this excellent point.
He would have also smacked down Luther over his rejection of the Ten Commandments.
There are some Roman Catholics who live for just that.
And there are other "roman catholics" who just can't wait to celebrate the 500th year anniversary of Luther's Revolt.
