The point of origin of the Christian faith is Jesus Christ.
This page reviews the transmission of the Christian faith from Jesus Christ and the Apostles through the Traditions of the early Christian Church and the formation of the Canon of the New Testament of the Bible.
God has revealed himself to man through Divine Revelation, by sending us his beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. God chose to reveal himself to us so that we may become partakers of his divine nature (2 Peter 1:4). God first made himself known by creating our first parents, Adam and Eve, in his image and likeness (Genesis 1:26-28). Following the Fall of Adam and Eve through original sin, God's promise of Redemption gave them the hope of salvation (Genesis 3:15). In preparing for the redemption of the human race, God made covenants with Noah, Abraham, Moses and the people and prophets of Israel. Salvation history is fulfilled through the Incarnation of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Word made Flesh.
Our appropriate personal response in our relationship with Christ Jesus is what St. Paul calls "the obedience of faith" (Romans 1:5, 16:26)!
There were three stages in the formation of the Gospels: the Life and Teachings of Jesus Christ, the Oral Tradition of the Apostles, and the Written Word.

“Scripture and Tradition go hand in hand in understanding the Word of God!”
For all practical purposes, you’re right. Unfortunately. The “grab bag” approach to Scripture leads to lots of error and invention of “tradition, which then proceeds to delude under imprimatur of “truth”.
Depends on the definition of tradition.
Paul did not give blanket license to make things up and claim they were the truth by calling them *tradition*.
Jesus soundly condemned tradition whenever He spoke of it.
The Word of God has not changed in 2,000 years and the source documents can still be referenced.
MANY times I’ve asked for a list of the traditions that Paul allegedly gave that were not written down, how we can know for sure they came from him, how we can know that they were faithfully passed down for almost 2,000 years and have yet to get any kind of answer.
Pious writings are of great us to remind one of the Truths of Scripture and applications to daily life, as long as neither they nor their uninspired authors are ever placed in authority over God's Word.
Uninspired writers are also necessarily fallible, and are not to be of the same quality as the inerrant, infallible, verbally inspired and preserved Word, which interprets itself.
Exactly.
‘Tradition’ that is based solely in the Word and helps people to understand, believe, teach, and preach the Word of God is a good thing. It’s not a NECESSARY thing, but as long as it grows the Body of Christ in a healthy way, it’s a good thing.
For example, nearly all of the songs we sing can be counted as tradition, whether they be old songs or contemporary. But it’s good to sing them as long as they accurately convey the Word.
But to use the word ‘tradition’ as a reason to ignore the plain Word of God, or when the tradition becomes more important than the Word? That’s when we have a major problem.
But he effect is to put Tradition over the Holy Scriptures is a rule of Catholic Doctrine. The attempt at equating them is a smoke screen.
No thought or work of man can supersede the authority of God's Word over all of Creation.
This is untrue. Holy Scripture is a part of Sacred Tradition.
Notice that the modern mainline churches no longer refers to tradition. Tradition runs counter to the current push for acceptance of homosexual lifestyle, same sex marriage, transgenderism, abortion, etc. They now say Scripture speaks to each generation. That may be true but does not go against Scripture and tradition, IMO.
I don’t know how you got that from my comment.
But leftists have infiltrated ALL churches, or at least have tried to.
And trust me, it makes me sick when they try to warp the Word into saying the exact opposite of what it actually says.
I didn’t - just an observation I wanted to add.
OK Try Mark 6:3 "Then they scoffed, "He's just a carpenter, the son of Mary and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon. And his sisters live right here among us." They were deeply offended and refused to believe in him."
Convince us that James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon were not his Step-Brothers through Mary and that he at least had two Step-Sisters also by Mary according to this verse.
Have at it.
Okay, cool.
Your first error in this thread.
(1) The Scriptures are from God.
From the mouth of The Lord Jesus:
"It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.' " (Mt. 4:4bcd AV; cf. Deut. 8:3).
Jesus did not exercise His position and preemptive authority; He held the authority of God's spoken words written by Moses and preserved as the ultimate Authority over Satan's authority in this world.
The words written by Apostle Paul in training his disciple Timothy:
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: . . ."(2 Tim. 3:16 AV).
Paul affirms Scripture--not tradition--as the supreme authority, for the purpose:
". . . That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works" (2 Tim. 3:17 AV).
Through such spiritually mature men these words were preserved as inspired Scripture. having authority over the men protecting and copying them.
(2) Tradition is from men.
On the other hand, the Lord Jesus spoke to the hypocritical religionists of the day, who placed their authority above that of the Scriptures thus far completed four centuries previously:
"Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? . . . Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition" (Mt. 15:3b,6c AV).
Jesus found them "falsus in unum, falsus in omnibus"--false in one thing, false in all.
(3) To place these entities on the same spiritual plane is defiling the Holiness of God and His Revealed Word:
Scripture is God's perfect Words.
Tradition is man's fallible works.
Don't confuse them by commingling them.
God does not:
Inscripturated by David, preserved by God:
"I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name" (Ps. 138:2 AV).
This is something I have gone over a dozen times, and in detail, on this Forum. But I can’t link to it handily on my Kindle.
You can save me the time and effort by googling “MRS DON-O” JESUS BROTHERS ADELPHOI and it’ll turn up most episodes of this ongoing discussion instantly for your perusal.
Afterwards, if you have any further questions, do get back to me.
Oh. And “according to this verse”? Neither this verse nor any other verse in the Bible calls these individuals Sons of Mary or Children of Mary.
Mary having other offspring comes up only at the end of Rev. 12. The offspring there referred to, includes you and me.
you and me.
You will NEVER get an answer to that question, because there isn't any answer to it. When I was a Catholic, I didn't question the traditions I figured it would all just check out in the end. It doesn't, of course.
the problem is when push comes to shove and something has to give, in Catholicism what gives is Scripture.
Tradition trumps Scripture and that is seen as doctrines are based on tradition and then Scripture is cherry picked in an attempt to justify the tradition because Scripture does not say what the tradition states.
\It’s only by *interpreting* it that the plain words of Scripture are bent to try to make them say what supports the tradition.
1) I didn’t say the Scriptures aren’t from God. Thanks to their Divine Author, their historical chain of transmission is through His Church.
2) You have neglected to distinguish between different kinds of tradition. You will note that the Apostle Paul disparages some kinds of tradition, and praises -— insists upon -— other kinds. (He can’t be disparaging and insisting upon the same thing, so there must he two kinds.). The kind called Sacred Tradition has exactly the same origin (the teaching of Our Lord and of His Apostles) whether it is conveyed by preaching , or teaching, or example, or the texts of letters and Gospels.
3) St Paul taught exactly that: that Sacred Tradition has the same authority whether oral or written:
(2 These 2:15)
“Therefore, brothers, stand firm and hold fast to the traditions that you were taught, whether by an oral statement or by a letter of ours.”
Either you, or the apostle Paul, must be very much mistaken.
