You will NEVER get an answer to that question, because there isn't any answer to it. When I was a Catholic, I didn't question the traditions I figured it would all just check out in the end. It doesn't, of course.
Since you manifest an active interest in these matters, I think you could profit from some basic reading in Sacred Tradition.
I recommend authors George Agius, James Mackey, and Jaroslav Peliken. I know you can get Agius’ book on Catholic Tradition for under $10, including shipping, from Amazon used books.
These authors also have articles online. You can google

and

and find some good, much briefer, treatments.
