Before leaving on his first international trip as president, which will include a visit to Pope Francis at the Vatican, Donald J. Trump announced the appointment of Callista Gingrich as U.S. ambassador to the Holy See.
The announcement was made as one of several other appointments to the Trump Administration. The choice has long been rumored. Gingrich’s husband, Newt Gingrich, former speaker of the House of Representatives, confirmed early on in the new administration that his wife was being considered.
The actual title of the position, according to the White House website, is “Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Holy See.” The announcement says that Gingrich has been the President and CEO of Gingrich Productions, “a multimedia production and consulting company in Arlington, Virginia, since 2007.” In that position, she has produced a number of documentaries, including one about Pope John Paul II.
The announcement also notes that Gingrich is the author of “the New York Times bestselling Ellis the Elephant childrens series and co-author of Rediscovering God in America. Ms. Gingrich also produces and hosts historical and public policy documentary films. She served as a congressional aide in the U.S. House of Representatives and is President of The Gingrich Foundation, which supports charitable causes. Ms. Gingrich has sung for two decades with the Choir of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. She earned a BA cum laude from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.”
CBS News noted that Gingrich worked for the House Committee on Agriculture as chief clerk until 2007. “She was a key figure in her husband’s 2012 bid for the Republican nomination,” it says.
The position requires Senate confirmation.
You will note that she NEVER lets Newt out of her sight!
LOL! You pretty much nailed that one, didn’t you? This, from a practicing Roman Catholic.
YOU brought the post of the day, the week, the month and of the *truth*.
Rita
btw, a relative’s children love her Ellie the Elephant books.
Too funny!
Maybe her faith will rub off on Red Frankie...
Newt's second wife (Marianne Ginther) was alive and well when he began an affair with his current wife Callista. Marianne stated in an 2012 interview that they decided to begin divorce proceedings when she refused to accept Gingrich's suggestion of an open marriage. He married Callista four months after divorcing Marianna, not after her death. Marianne is still alive to this day.
Newt converted to his wife's Callista's faith AFTER marrying her.
The Catholic bashers on this site get around it by retroactively claiming they "liked and respected your LAST Pope", which reminds me of the "anti-war" Democrats during the Bush era swearing up and down they were "against war" when Clinton was President.
You can search any Pope Benedict threads from the time he was the sitting pontiff. About 95% of the comments from non-Catholics were making fun of his age or calling him the "NAZI Pope".
Tony and Cherie Blair could make a similar claim. He formally converted to his wife's faith after leaving the Prime Minister's office, and by all accounts attends Mass weekly with his wife and children and his marriage is valid and recognized by Catholic canon law, and Tony Blair says he's a proud and faithful practicing Catholic.
Interesting thing, though, "practicing Catholic" Tony Blair has not changed his support for abortion or gay marriage.
I didn’t say the Gingrichs’ were a “practicing Catholic” pair. I said they are devoted to the Catholic Church as they are to their marriage, and it shows on both counts.
Never mind the Blairs. They have nothing in common with the Gingrichs’ and are clearly out of bounds with the Church, as in “automatically self-excommunicated” for dedicating absurd agreement with those two atrocious actions. Cafeteria Catholics are not even “practicing” Catholics, in rebellion to the faith.
I have a friend (we are both Catholic) who said the bigger problem with this pick is that Newt is a freemason. I was not aware of that.
Can anyone confirm this? There is mixed information on the internet, mostly stating that he is not a freemason.
Thank you everyone.
I stand corrected. Thanks.
Calista is a devout Catholic.
If he is a Freemason then he is committing a sin in the eyes of the Church. I’m not aware that he’s a Freemason though.
Some Democrat will put a hold on it.
Thank you. I don’t think he’s a mason either, and can’t find much to support that assertion. I’ll have to find out where she got that information.
Masonry is anathema to the Roman Catholic Church. I know devotion to the faith of the Church to the insidious advances inside the Church are largely lost in the Western version of “Catholicism”, particularly in Europe, but also in the USA and Canada.
All this is to say that Newt Gingrich could not have been received into the Church if it were known by the Church that he was a Mason. There is no official bio on Newt that indicates such a thing, in the first place, at least that I have ever seen.
But, fake news and fake revelations are in vogue now and the Left and their sympathizers are cunning and educated on where it is most effective to strike. A disgruntled Catholic or a dissenter to the Church would know how to slander Newt in his relationship with the Church.
She is a practicing Catholic. Yes, she’s sinned and has been very publicly shamed for it. Since then, it seems to me she’s done all the steps possible to repent and make amends. She even inspired her husband to convert to Catholicism.
Remember, Christ had great love for Mary Magdalen and even allowed her to be the fist person to see Him after He rose.
Thank you Rita. This person is not a disgruntled Catholic at all, but she does not like Newt. I think her assertion is unfounded. I don’t think he’s a mason.
And what you say makes sense. If that was a publicly known fact, it would have been an impediment to converting to Catholicism. Michael Voris has produced an excellent documentary on Freemasonry. What an eye opener!
God bless you and yours!
I don’t quite know how you made sense out of that second sentence I posted, in my initial comment. HA! Thanks for your reply.
