Matthew 7: 21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Being children of Adam in the flesh, we are of them that are and were enemies of God and who must be redeemed by the faith only without our good works in the precious and sinless blood of the Son of God, Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour of them that believe. We are the broken egg since Adam fell. Only God's grace obtained by faith of Jesus Christ can redeem us from the fall and bring us unto God. We must all be at the cross of Christ and know and admit as the centurion did, " Truly, this was the Son of God ". All sinners, all who draw breath of mankind, were like him and responsible for His death as we are the children of them who did these things against God the Father's only begotten Son, who was He who both descended from Heaven to become Jesus, the Son of God, the Son of Man, and He who ascended back up to heaven after His resurrection from the dead, the First Begotten from the dead, even Jesus Christ, the sinless perfect Lamb of God.
Romans 3: 11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:
14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:
15 Their feet are swift to shed blood:
16 Destruction and misery are in their ways:
17 And the way of peace have they not known:
18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.
19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
Hence,
Ephesians2: 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
you forgot to use the word RIGHTEOUSNESS in the article :)
Do so-called “good people” go to Hell?
Depends on what your definition of “good” is, I suppose. Never met one, actually.
There is probably a special circle for ALLCAP folks.
couldn’t figure out, was the answer yes or no?
During the first Passover, did good people die if they stayed in the street?
Ans: Yes
Did bad people live if they got inside a house with the covering of blood?
Ans: Yes
Conclusion: it is not the goodness or badness that counts, but one’s acceptance of the refuge (or atonement)
One doesn’t earn it with good deeds, one just accepts it.
Don’t worry. When God lets bad things happen
to good people, He balances it out by letting
good things happen to bad people.
You forgot to ask the question "Why do we fall short?"
Joh 3:19-20 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed.
So, no, there are no good people and they like it that way. Only God can change the heart.
Interesting...
Perhaps heaven and hell are the same place. To the bad people it is hell, and to the good ones it’s heaven.
According to the ultimate Authority on the subject there is none good but God alone.
So the answer is no.
I believe it’s not my concern who goes where. I have no clue about that. I just try to stay out of trouble and be alert to the Lord.
Jesus said ‘no man is good but God’.
Everything He said is true.
The Jews were self-righteous because they thought the “bar” that God wanted man to perform to was the 10 Commandments.
But God looks at the heart, not the outward - so Jesus spoke the Sermon on the Mount - where He said, in essence, “You thought the bar was here....(10 commandments), but since God sees the heart, the real bar is here: ‘if any man look at a woman with lust, he is guilty of adultery; if any man hate his brother, he is guilty of murder.”
With the bar being that God sees the heart - we all are guilty sinners, whose only hope is to fall on our faces before a holy, righteous and loving God and cry out for forgiveness - because He gave His Son for us, whose shed blood cleanses us from all sin, and Who is our only righteousness......
James 2:14-26
14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him?
15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food,
16 and one of you says to them, Go in peace, be warmed and filled, without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?
17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
18 But someone will say, You have faith and I have works. Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.
19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believeand shudder!
20 Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless?
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar?
22 You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works;
23 and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousnessand he was called a friend of God.
24 You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.
25 And in the same way was not also Rahab the prostitute justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way?
26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead."
Not slamming anyone here, but it is, I think, one of the reasons at the root of the complaints some have about the hypocrisy in certain segments of Christianity.
I know of a specific example of a "born again" who preached to co-workers about "faith" (often turning them off because his behavior spoke otherwise in terms of how he dealt with people), honestly believed that once "born again" one had a golden ticket to heaven, and who also actively stole pricey equipment from the job site.
For the latter, one can point to Matthew 7:16, following the warning against false prophets, but equally applies to those who say one thing, but their actions say something quite another.
And on that, this should really be in the religion forum.
Of course good people don’t go to Hell.
To think otherwise is ridiculous.
The question is who is good? And the answer is none of us. That is why we need someone who is good and can give us His righteousness and take our sin on himself..
Deuteronomy 4:19 & Malachi 1:11.
God does indeed change the heart if any sinner believes on Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. Good works are fruitless and ultimate vanity, as is all religions of the world, only faith in the Good Work of God by Jesus Christ, He who was with sin and willingly gave Himself for Sinners, can save a man. It is not church going or countless denomination prayers, but rather faith alone by grace alone in Jesus Christ alone that can and does save a man from death and hell.
Paraphrasing a FReeper (sadly I can’t recall whom but I bet all y’all know: Gosh darns bad people to heck.
hey, the language. This is a family board. :)
and here’s hoping he makes an exception for me!!
