Nor do they have any Scriptural basis because there is no Scripture which supports the claims that are made about it today.
It’s all just about experience and the have’s then resort to condemning the have not’s as being unspiritual and not wanting all that God has for us.
There is a tremendous spirit of judgment and condemnation involved from the have’s, who of course, are so much more spiritual than everyone else.
I was a charismatic as a young Christian. When I began to rock the boat of my Charismatic "church," they started to prophecy all sorts of horrible things about me. One time I was even accused of being a mass-fornicator, seducing women by the score. Other times, I was accused of being under the influence and power of demons. All of this because I began to question their prophecies and practices. Even a girl I was in love with told me that I was "bringing judgment upon myself" because I confronted the liars and fiends, and also mocked their idols, like Todd Bentley (who, after I was ostracized for condemning him as a false prophet, was subsequently exposed as an adulterer).
The virgins are the church. I don't know how to make it more evident.
...."So your whole speculation falls apart."...Not hardly. You just want to argue if you can't get this. It is true He gives the gifts He wants to, but you can ask.
You do NOT have to speak in tongues to be saved, but you will have some gift of God or you couldn't do the works of God. We are made a little less than angels. If you have no Spiritual power, Satan will overcome you. Just as it says in Eph 6:18, It is part of the armor of God you need against the devil. If you are in a spiritual war, you need spiritual weapons.
Anyway, I can assure you it isn't fake. There may be some fakers, just as there is anywhere. Are there fakers in the catholic church molesting kids and fornicating with women? How about these Lutherans making fun of Pentecostals( of which I am not). Are there homosexual preachers marrying sodomites in their churches? If you can judge me by speaking in tongues, why can't I have a look at your practices? I'm just stating what the Bible says and you are trying to make God fit your box. Have you ever asked God to give you tongues? Have you ever tried to speak in tongues? If you don't speak in tongues, what gift did the Spirit give you? Tongues is the least of the gifts, but it is a gift. When you lay hands on a Baptist and they hit the ground, are they faking? When you anoint lay hands on a Baptist preachers wife and she is healed of Pancreatitis after suffering for 10 months, is she faking? If you aren't seeing God work, maybe you are in the wrong neighborhood. If you don't believe in healing, why pray? Prophesy, tongues, Word of knowledge, ect are all fake, but you pray for healing? Why bother if it's fake.
Because you have no spiritual fruit without spiritual gifts. Let's say you give $100,000 to charity unsaved. It counts for NOTHING in heaven. But if you give $100 to charity saved, that's treasure in heaven. If you pray for someone and they get healed, that is fruit accounted to you. A nonspiritual person gets nothing and the patient gets no healing. The apostles could have gone out to start the church without Acts 2, but how far would they get on their own power? It's all about power. Christians scurry about doing things with no results because they lack the power of the Holy Spirit.
The reason I spoke about the gifts was because the cartoon was about making fun of the Spiritual gifts. There is much more in Scripture than tongues, but the subject was tongues.
The problem with Christianity today is they haven't figured out that knowing ABOUT Jesus isn't the same as KNOWING Jesus. If He doesn't speak to you, He doesn't know you. I have told people I heard Him speak and some look as if I missed my meds. If you don't hear God speak, do you even know Him and He you? You have the Kingdom of God and Babylon. That's it, nothing else, no grey areas. Saying you are in the Kingdom doesn't make you in the kingdom. Satan will give strong delusion that even will fool the elect, if they are weak. When you pray for someone to get a job and they get a job the NEXT DAY, I feel like God listened. I have watched others pray literally for years and get nothing.
Let me give you some homework. Go to Google and search "Todd White". Watch at least an hour and make up your own mind.
ping to myself
1 Corinthians 12:4-11 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.
1 Corinthians 12:27-31 Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? But earnestly desire the higher gifts.
And I will show you a still more excellent way.
And the very next line says.....
1 Corinthians 13:1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
Imagine that. Paul then goes on to say........
1 Corinthians 14:1-25 Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit. On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation. The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but the one who prophesies builds up the church. Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up.
Now, brothers, if I come to you speaking in tongues, how will I benefit you unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or teaching? If even lifeless instruments, such as the flute or the harp, do not give distinct notes, how will anyone know what is played? And if the bugle gives an indistinct sound, who will get ready for battle? So with yourselves, if with your tongue you utter speech that is not intelligible, how will anyone know what is said? For you will be speaking into the air. There are doubtless many different languages in the world, and none is without meaning, but if I do not know the meaning of the language, I will be a foreigner to the speaker and the speaker a foreigner to me. So with yourselves, since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, strive to excel in building up the church.
Therefore, one who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind is unfruitful. What am I to do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also; I will sing praise with my spirit, but I will sing with my mind also. Otherwise, if you give thanks with your spirit, how can anyone in the position of an outsider say Amen to your thanksgiving when he does not know what you are saying? For you may be giving thanks well enough, but the other person is not being built up. I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. Nevertheless, in church I would rather speak five words with my mind in order to instruct others, than ten thousand words in a tongue.
Brothers, do not be children in your thinking. Be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature. In the Law it is written, By people of strange tongues and by the lips of foreigners will I speak to this people, and even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord. Thus tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign not for unbelievers but for believers. If, therefore, the whole church comes together and all speak in tongues, and outsiders or unbelievers enter, will they not say that you are out of your minds? But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or outsider enters, he is convicted by all, he is called to account by all, the secrets of his heart are disclosed, and so, falling on his face, he will worship God and declare that God is really among you.
The FRUIT of the Spirit is the true evidence of the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer as it is the manifestation of the life of Christ.
the gifts are tools to be used by the believer for the edification of the church body, NOT the individual, and do not produce character or Christlikeness in the life of the one doing the speaking.
Absolute and total nonsense. You have no fruit without the Holy Spirit, not the tools He has given us.
The GIFTS do NOT produce fruit in a person's life.
Paul tells us that without the FRUIT the gifts are meaningless.
Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
When you pray for someone to get a job and they get a job the NEXT DAY, I feel like God listened.
Oh, so you ***FEEL LIKE*** God didn't listen....
Nice. And do you tell other believers that too?
And are you speaking for God from His perspective or speaking from your own experience?
And again, as usual, Pentecostal teaching that demonstrates NO Scriptural basis.
Because what did GOD tell us about prayer? Last I recall, He hears AND answers. EVERY. LAST. PRAYER.
And just because He didn't perform the way you thought He should have or expected, doesn't mean He didn't answer.
I have watched others pray literally for years and get nothing.
So what? And who said they didn't get anything? YOU?!?!?!
And what do you know? Read Job lately when God questioned him?
Do you know the mind of God? Do you know the beginning from the end? Do you know the depths of a person's heart? Do you know all the details in a person's life that they are involved in?
And you presume to sit in judgment on them and GOD????
Pentecostals are nothing if not gutsy.
Get over yourself.
Give me homework?
What a hoot.
And Todd White?
Who cares what he has to say?
Give me SCRIPTURE to back up your claims, not some feel good wolf in sheep's clothing comments.
His homepage is all about HIM. Nothing about what he believes or teaches. No statement of faith. Just asking for money.
And what is notably lacking from his website is ANY reference to Jesus, the cross, His blood, redemption, sin, confession, atonement, Scripture, whatever.
It's just talking about Christians and *God* and power and love.
It's all just a bunch of feel good showmanship, appealing to the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life, with him looking for money.
Why the heck would I want to watch something that is not Christ focused?
Same here. Several have told me if I don't speak in tongues, I wasn't saved. I don't buy that. Besides "tongues" are not some angelic gibberish. They are languages that people speak and understand. But, you are right. There is a better way.
Luke 13:24-28.
I’ve posted plenty of Scripture to support my position.
Where’s yours?
So far all you have posted is opinion.
And you’re going to *shake the dust off your feet* at me why?
Cause I tell you something you don’t want to hear and you can’t refute it with Scripture?
You’d rather go with what makes you feel good than what God tells us in His word?
And *I’m* unteachable?
All you’ve done in resorting to getting snotty is reinforce the stereotype of Pentecostalism as being unscriptural and uninterested in solid teaching. And it’s NOT legalism, as many pentecostals like to accuse others who stick to Scripture of being.
Todd White’s focus is on Todd White.
It’s not being unteachable because I don’t want to listen to someone who doesn’t even talk about Jesus and yet claims to be Christian.
Talk about a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
For the record, I've seen God's hand on my life, moving marvelously. Metmom, like me, clearly believes in the power of prayer and is a regenerated believer who loves Christ and is loved by Him. Neither of us deny the power of God, or would claim that there are no miracles.
What we simply deny is the absurdity and unscriptural practices of the Pentecostal/Charismatic movement. That's all. It is entirely Biblical to do so, to "try the Spirits," and to try the supposed "miracles" like tongue speaking or gold dust from heaven or flopping on the floor like a fish.
Because we do so does not make us inferior Christians or members of an apostate church. It makes us Christians doing our best to have discernment and follow the commands of God as written in scripture.
As for "if you don't want what God has for you." For the record, again, I was a Charismatic for a number of years. What they "had" was false prophecy, delusion, and legalism. Their tongues were not tongues. Their slaying in the spirit were not slayings. They barely even had the Gospel. A friend of mine told me, who also came out of it with me, that she didn't even understand the Gospel until after she left their movement. Why? Because the whole movement is dependent on extrabiblical miracles and revelations.
Does that mean we do not believe in miracles and "extrabiblical revelations"? No. We pray for knowledge, for guidance, for help in our times of trouble. We simply do not believe in the clearly abusive and unedifying practices that contradict the holy scripture.
One thing I've noticed in even supposedly solid Pentecostal churches, is a HUGE emphasis on the Holy Spirit and signs and wonders, the power, the gifts of the Spirit and not so much on Jesus and His work of redemption on the cross and the FRUIT of the Spirit and dying to self and being transformed in our minds to the likeness of Christ. The Holy Spirit is mentioned and sought after far more in those churches than Jesus is.
In general, Pentecostals are always looking for their next experience and are what I call *experience junkies*. There's the pervasive thinking that if they haven't had their tongues, or dream, or vision, or word of knowledge, or whatever manifestation they are looking for, something is wrong with their spiritual life.
That is not walking by faith. It's walking by sight(experience).
There's also the problem that if you aren't doing Christianity their way, there's a tremendous spirit of judgment and condemnation. You aren't as spiritual as them. You haven't arrived yet. You are not part of the inner circle of *have's*.
If they think that God isn't working in your life in the way they tell you He should be, through healing, financial deliverance, whatever, then there's sin in your life, you don't have enough faith, or whatever they choose to blame on you.
