Thanks, Brian, for sharing your story. It’s heartbreaking in one way and joyful in another.

May God continue to walk with you and heal you. And may he watch over Sue and your family, too.

God bless!

“Did you ever pray to God to explain why these crosses are placed on your shoulder?”

That's all part of:

(1) "Take up your cross and follow me," (Luke 9:23), and

(2) "And my God will meet all your needes according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus, (Philippians 4:19),

Thanks all, sincerely, for your prayers, which are greatly appreciated.

This thread, though, isn’t so much a request for prayers as a request for people to take their current lives more seriously, less for granted, and prepare for real difficulties which directed lay ahead of us - by telling God now that we accept and offer up these inevitable near future crosses.

I’m really convinced we are on the cusp of serious problems, on an unseen scale, and we need to prepare ourselves as much as we are able, through prayer, fasting, and freely embracing our crosses.

I printed this off for my "look at it later" stack when you first posted it --- almost 2 weeks ago, wasn't it? --- but I just got around to reading it.

Thank you very much for posting this. As the Quakers say, it "speaks t my condition" and helps enlighten and explain some of the stuff going on in my life right now. Trouble. You have evidently gotten a triple dose of it. And it brings to mind something St. Ignatius of Loyola said to a struggling friend: "If God is permitting very great suffering in your life, it is certain He is making you into a very great saint."

I can only say I will pray for you with my 2 cents worth of prayer. But added to Christ's suffering ---- well, He will make it inexplicably fruitful, though we don't know how.

I am more than touched by the grin-inducing description of the joy you have found with your laughing wife through all these seasons of pain, disability and loss.

Jesus is doing something with you. Just stay in His grip. And, if I may ask, please pray for me.

**…for many, thinking that the word penance means great austerities and not feeling in themselves the strength or the generosity for these, lose heart and rest in a life of lukewarmness and sin. Our Lord said to me: “The sacrifice required of every person is the fulfillment of his duties in life and the observance of My Law. This is the penance that I now seek and require.” **

Wonderful outlook on things.

Your life is a profound example of carrying your cross and following Jesus! Thank you for sharing this. I am a spiritual pansy; afraid of pain and hardships, and am inspired by your faith!
