Question: How will God judge non-Catholics at the time of their death? — William Bandle, Manchester, Missouri
Answer: Scripture says, “God does not see as a mortal ... The Lord looks into the heart” (1 Sam 16:7). Thus, God, who knows our hearts, will judge us based on what is there. Not all have had the same opportunity to come to know the Lord, his Church and the help of the sacraments. God is just; he knows this and will judge accordingly.
Jesus says, “That servant who knew his master’s will but did not make preparations or act in accord with his will shall be beaten severely and the servant who was ignorant of his master’s will but acted in a way deserving of a severe beating, shall be beaten only lightly” (Lk 12:47-48).
In terms of non-Catholics who lacked some knowledge or sacraments of the Church, God will look into their hearts and judge them based on what they reasonably could have known and their actions based on that.
Therefore, to say that God looks into the heart does not mean that he merely looks to a person’s feelings or disposition. Rather, as Scripture says, we will be judged by our deeds (see Rom 2:6-11). Did our actions correspond to what we knew was expected of us or not?

Thus, the degree of a person’s knowledge of God’s will and his obedience to that knowledge in deeds will be key on the Day of Judgment. This does not mean all non-Catholics and other nonbelievers simply get a pass. Their ignorance of full Catholic teaching must be what is called “invincible ignorance,” meaning a lack of knowledge that they could not reasonably overcome. Thus, if one is lazy or makes excuses when seeking the truth, God will take it into account.
Since the Lord alone sees into our heart, he alone will be our just judge.
Yes he does.
You will recall Paul had to correct Peter.
He also had to correct a good number of the churches.
It is easy to fall into error if one does not rightly handle the word.
Paul also had to correct a good number of the (Catholic) churches, since there was only the Catholic church at that time in history. So I’ve been informed repeatedly.
Some people believe only PART of the Bible. They CHOOSE to ignore some parts, as in Matthew 19:3-12 and Mark 10:2-12, Jesus' words against marry-divorce-remarry and so on...the "Henry VIII" model.
The words of Jesus aren't like a menu, are they, where we can pick and choose? We trust ALL of His words, ALL of them.
FEAR and TREMBLING and hopeful confidence in the promises of Christ. If we can't trust the promises of Jesus, ALL OF THEM, then whom can be trust?
Well put, ADSUM.
It sure does.
I don’t believe it involved Catholic Church doctrine.
And some people ignore the Word when contrasted with their churches practices.
We do read the scriptures, a lot...Peter never went to Rome...No where in the scriptures does it even hint at Peter going to Rome...
All these different opinions fracture the body of Christ. We need a decider to whom we all listen.
We have investigated the Roman church as well as the bible, for years...They are not compatible with each other...That's why we reject your religion...
It does show the first “pope” needed correction.
And once again, the Body Jesus now occupies IN HEAVEN is a glorifed body. It is the creature/carnal body which has the life of the creature distributed by the blood. The blood is not The Life. THE LIFE IS IN THE BLOOD. The blood Jesus had in His creature body was sprinkled upon the Mercy Seat, to cover the sins of the world. You will never rank so important that you can drink the actual blood of the Creature Jesus to get His soul and divinity in you. That is the CATHOLIC blasphemy ... and yes, I reject that completely. I do, however, break bread and sip a fine wine IN REMEMBRANCE of the work JESUS did for you and me. He is my Lord and Savior, not my snack for re-upping.
I realize that you have trouble accepting Catholic Doctrine.
There was only one bloody death on the cross.
The Sacrifice of the Mass is a non bloody sacrifice that Jesus mysteriously allows the Catholic priest to perform Transubstantiation of the Bread and Wine into the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.
According to the Bible, Christians gathered to partake in the breaking of the bread (Acts 2:42, 2:46, 20:17) on the first day of the week, the Lords Day (Acts 20:7, 1 Cor. 16:2). Sunday is the first day of the week, and also referred to by early Christian sources as The Lords Day because it is the day that Christ rose from the dead.
ST Paul in 1 Cor. 11:23-33).
For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me. In the same way He took the cup also after supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me. For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lords death until He comes.
Again, the Early Church Fathers dealt with the heretics of the day;Ignatius warns them about the Gnostics, writing:
They abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer, because they confess not the Eucharist to be the flesh of our Saviour Jesus Christ, which suffered for our sins, and which the Father, of His goodness, raised up again. Those, therefore, who speak against this gift of God, incur death in the midst of their disputes.
The CURRENT pope needs correction, someone needs to disabuse him of his apparent love of socialism and humanist religion. He is a scandal to the faithful and a stumbling block to those outside of the Church.
You ignore what a catholic priest says and just regurgitate the usual talking points. Amazing.
Are all of the ECFs in 100% agreement on this? You know why I’m asking.
Your reading is lacking the first three chapters of The Revelation. Or you are willfully disregarding the TRUTH therein regarding the several churches addressed.
Paul, inspired by The Holy Spirit, asserted Peter is the Apostle to the JEWS, whereas Paul is to the Gentiles. I wonder, do Catholics consider themselves the ‘real’ Jews so that The Holy Inspiration to Paul; is correct to their liking?
Jesus promised to stay with us 'believers', not the Catholic religion...And NO he did nothing to ensure Catholic doctrine was true or accurate...The real fact is Jesus challenged us believers to follow the correct doctrine layed out in the scriptures...
Sadly, you don't see that for what it is, the most carnal misuse of What JESUS TAUGHT to show the spiritual essence of what He was about to do on the Cross. The passage in John 6 is not about The Lord's Table, but catholiciism insists it be carnally applied!
Then it's useless killing because without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins.
And if it's a bloodless sacrifice, then it's not one and the same as the sacrifice of Calvary because that was a bloody sacrifice.
And if the sacrifice of the mass is a bloodless one, then where does the blood that Catholics claim they drink come from?
