Anyone tell me where I can find out how all those fancy robes with gold and stuff on them and the hats they were were instituted and why? Yeshua and his disciples just wore a simple robe and sandals. Wouldn’t you think the Church would emulate that? I’m not being hateful or anything, just curious. Thanks in advance.
Start reading Church History — lots of good/factual reads.
Get back when you are done.
The Catholic Church teaches that at Mass, priests are acting “in persona Christi.” Thus, when a priest (or bishop or pope) puts on those elaborate robes, he doesn’t think, I’m getting all dressed up!, he thinks, these are for Christ because we want Him to have the best! And in fact, that is why people donated money for those robes.
Similarly, if Obama and Michelle showed up as representatives of the US at the UN to give a speech, if they dressed in beat-up jeans and t-shirts, everyone would be upset, right? That would be inappropriate dress for an occasion like that and for their position in it. For Obama to wear a very nice suit and his wife to wear a designer dress would be appropriate in that situation.
Hope this helps!
BTW, any further discussion should probably occur on a different thread in a different forum.
Where is it written? Chapter and verse, please.
Answer me this: what does your minister wear?
And as for you: are you a disciple of Christ? If so, what do you wear?
Please include, in your self-disclosure, all accoutrements such as watch, ring, hearing aid, underpants, socks, or cell phone.
Thanks in advance.
To don-o: please note my use of the word "accoutrements." Gimme five?
Gold and stuff???? I went to Catholic schools and all the Nuns that I saw had black robes, some white trim around the face, a Rosary....black, and the little rope thing representing their vows....NO gold things
Yeshua and his disciples just wore a simple robe and sandals.
All thirteen of them crammed into the same robe and sandals...? Kind of gives new meaning to the term ‘close knit’...
First place to start... Exodus 25.
Worship is not meant to be a sparse exercise without fanfare... It’s an exercise to reflect the fact that we are in the presence of God.

Huh? Since the time of Moses priests wore holy garments.
