"The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all" (2 Corinthians 13:14).
Though there is only one God, He exists in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
God is one, but He exists in three distinct Persons. We call this the Trinity, a contraction of "tri-unity," meaning "three in one." The word Trinity doesn't appear in the Bible, but God's existence as three Persons in one God is clear from Scripture.
Old Testament evidence of God's plurality can be found in the very first verse: "In the beginning God . . ." (Gen. 1:1). The Hebrew word used for God is Elohim, which is a plural noun. Isaiah 42:1 speaks of the Messiah: "Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold; My chosen one in whom My soul delights. I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the nations." The Messiah says in Isaiah 48:16, "The Lord God has sent Me, and His Spirit."
The New Testament is more explicit about God's triune nature. After Jesus' baptism, the Spirit of God descended upon Him as a dove, and the Father said, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased" (Matt. 3:17). The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are together in the same scene.
Jesus says, "And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth" (John 14:16-17). Paul closes 2 Corinthians by saying, "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all" (13:14). Peter declares that believers are chosen "according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by the sanctifying work of the Spirit, that you may obey Jesus Christ" (1 Peter 1:2).
So God is one, but God is three. This is a profound mystery that no human illustration can adequately describe and no scientific explanation can prove. The Trinity is something we have to take on faith, because God has taught it in Scripture.
Suggestions for Prayer
Praise God that He is so far above our finite understanding, yet has chosen to reveal Himself to us.
For Further Study
Read John 14-16.
What does Jesus teach about His relationship with the Father and the Spirit? What do you learn here about the different functions or ministries of each member of the Trinity?
I'll show you gentiles and Christians:
Act 13:42 So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath.
Act 13:43 Now when the congregation had broken up, many of the Jews and devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.
Act 13:44 On the next Sabbath almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God.
History shows Christians worshippers on the first day of the week from the beginning, the Lordâs Day. Anyone following the Apostolic Tradition as the Scriptures command us would know this.
The apostles kept the sabbath. And the Lord's day IS the sabbath:
Lev 23:3 'Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation. You shall do no work on it; it is the Sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.
The Lords' day is the sabbath:
Luk_6:5 And He said to them, "The Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath."
Those who disobey the Scriptures and do not follow the Apostolic Tradition, are lost in following the tradition of men.
That's a twist. You're saying the "apostolic tradition" tells us to disobey the 4th commandment, a commandment of the Lord Jesus Christ himself, and if we don't we're following man's tradition. Truly your logic is dizzying. :-)
HOw long exactly...how many hours...was Jonah in the fish? Ask any Jews that question. I'll wait.
Lol, Acts 13 doesn’t any where state Christians rested or kept the Sabbath.
Paul preached to the Jews on the Sabbath because that is the day the non believing Jews kept.
Christians keep the 8th day, since that is the day Jesus rose from the dead, fulfilling the law on our behalf.
Christians are not required to keep the Mosaic law, we are obligated to follow the commandments of Christ.
Do you know what those commandments are? ( hint, the Sabbath is not mentioned )
To a Jew, a baby born one minute before sundown on Friday who died one minute after sundown on Saturday evening lived for 3 days and 3 nights. ( even though it was only alive 24 hours and two minutes )
Look up inclusive reckoning and stop reading the Scriptures thru the lens of 21st century western thinking.
The sabbath was the day of worship that Paul knew to be the authentic, true sabbath of the Lord. It was the 4th commandment of God written down in scripture in multiple places and backed up by Jesus Christ and thousands of years of traditions.
Paul preached ON THE SABBATH to gentiles because that is and was the Christian day of worship.
What you're doing is looking at 1700 years of keeping Sunday and applying your understanding to scripture.
I don't care. The question is how many hours was Jonah in the fish?
Hmm, did Ellen G White have Acts 20:7 removed from the Bible under inspiration?
I repeat, the Mosaic law was fulfilled and nailed to the cross. We are not to be worried about new moons, festivals and sabbaths. Jesus is our Sabbath, we rest in Him.
Show me one verse where Paul explains to the Gentile converts what the Sabbath day is for, why we need to keep it and how we should keep it.
You can’t!
The Christian Church never kept the Sabbath any more than we practice circumcision.
Christians follow the commandments of Christ, I asked if you knew what they were. No Sabbath is mentioned so maybe you never learned that.
Well, you've probably read it cover to cover several times in the 55+ intervening years. /
How many hours was Jonah in the fish???
Quote-Luke 24 tells us that third day was Sunday
When people see ‘sunday’ in Luke 24, they are assuming Rome is telling the Truth.
The biblical calendar is not 6+1 like Rome’s calendar.
The Father’s calendar has a day each month that Rome ignores, and because of it, they have people believing and telling lies. (A New Moon Day)
Luke doesn’t say ‘sunday’, it says 1st day of the week.
Using the calendar He taught Israel (Ezekiel 46:1 has the plainest template)
The Lamb was slain for our sins on the 14th Day, Feast of Passover, according to scripture. That is the 6th and final work day of the Father’s Calendar- EVERY month.
That day is ALWAYS the preparation Day for the weekly Sabbath (15th Day)
He was buried.
He then rested on the 15th day in the tomb- Resting and obeying the weekly (and annual) Sabbath, even in death.
And He was raised the 1st day of the week - which is ALWAYS the 16th Day of every month on the Father’s calendar.
So,
14th- 6th Work Day of 2nd week (it is finished)
15th- 7th Day Sabbath
16th- 1st Work of 3rd week
All according to Ezekiel 46:1 and according to scripture (like Leviticus)
That pattern doesn’t change even when ‘Passover’ lands on a Pope Gregory Tuesday or any Pope appointed counterfeit day.
Quite a lot of false doctrines fall away when one knows how the Father taught Israel to keep time. Something Judaism doesn’t do either today. Why should they? Rome tells them when the Pope approved Jewish sabbath is. Like Rome does go Muslims and Christians..and it appears biblical so no one questions it...so subtle
So subtle the difference of a gospel according to Scripture (Passover,Unleavened Bread, first fruits-14th,15th,16th in Leviticus) versus the gospel according to Rome’s catechism and calendar (Good Friday, Holy saturday, Easter Sunday)
There are times those aren’t even in the same months..
Traditions of men can blind people to make and love lies that rob the Creator and Redeemer of Glory.
Tomorrow can be Saturday, February 6th, the Holy Jewish Sabbath, according to Rome..
Or,
The 27th Day of His 11th month, His 5th Work Day, the day He created the creatures of the seas and birds of the Heavens, according to Scripture and Creation.. A work day. Not Holy.
(Which will make the popes Monday His 7th Day Sabbath- which the world says ‘work’ while His Word says rest..
Which is why Passover can ‘appear’ to land on different Pope days on the pope Gregory, making it look like it changes, but it doesn’t.
If Christians understood the prophetic Truth of what Passover, His 14th Day, means to His Creative and Redemptive Work, they would see exactly how Israel was being groomed for their Messiah and the Kingdom..
Passover (14th) is that important. The 6th and final work day in the 2nd week of each and every one of His months is His 14th Day.
And Judaism isn’t trusted with it. They dont have the son. But His Bride can know all things and prepare the way.
1 + 6 + 1 is Biblical. (Ezekiel 46:1)
6 + 1 is counterfeit..
What is that 1 in front of the 6?
That answer can lead one to know the Messiah’s real birthday ( one of those 1’s)
It’s why the Scripture say He finished His Work of Creation on the 7th Day. And also rested on the 7th Day. A riddle. Not a discrepancy.
The Father’s calendar has two ‘7’ Days- 1 7th Day of the month (the 6th Work Day of His 1st week)
And the 7th Day Sabbath (which follows His 6 Work Days)- the ‘8th’ day of every month.
And when one follows that pattern, they will see where the world is on His prophetic month (we are in the 3rd week- and the Holy Spirit will finish the work on the 6th and Final Work Day of the Father’s 3rd week(21st day) and lead to the Sabbath rest (22nd Day- the ‘8th’ day). Just as the work of Creation was finished on the 6th day of the 1st week (commemorated as the 7th Day of each of His months) and the work of Redemption was finished on the 6th day of the 2nd week (commemorated as the 14th day of each- not just the 1st month- of His months)
It isn’t an accident Israel’s first Sabbath in the wilderness is on the 22nd Day of His 2nd month. We know that because He gives us record of when they arrived (15th) and when manna began (16th day).
And with time one will be blessed to see why 30/60/100 is used in the Parable of the Sower. And it is found in the Exodus before it is found in the New Testament. But people have to count like He taught Israel to count.
And in this counterfeit world, it stands to be ‘kooky’, but the Truth does set one free.. And baylon lies fall like a house of cards. When one accepts the premise that Rome is the authority on anything, they will never get to the fullness of Truth.
By design. The enemy’s design..
So subtle.
Neither of you solicited my reply, but wanted to add it anyway as Luke 24 says no such thing as you declared and wanted to show how that assumption the world makes robs them of seeing so much.
It is only ‘assumed’ because Rome has control of the world’s calendar.
Scripture and His Creation has the Genuine calendar and it is the Kingdom calendar that commemorates His Creative and Redemptive work, each and every day, week and month.
And it could be the difference between another gospel and another Jesus being preached and taught.
Paul didn’t teach good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday. And neither does Scripture.
But Rome does. They get away with it because the world uses their calendar.
Daniel 7:25
Just curious, do you keep the 7th day Sabbath holy?
And a little later at least TWO persons of the Trinity...
"Let US create man in OUR image...
Ben Carson says...
Depends on whether you are a Jew or a Gentile; I guess...
5 Then some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and said, "The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to keep the law of Moses."
6 The apostles and elders met to consider this question. 7 After much discussion, Peter got up and addressed them: "Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe. 8 God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us. 9 He did not discriminate between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith. 10 Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear? 11 No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are."
12 The whole assembly became silent as they listened to Barnabas and Paul telling about the signs and wonders God had done among the Gentiles through them. 13 When they finished, James spoke up. "Brothers," he said, "listen to me. 14 Simon has described to us how God first intervened to choose a people for his name from the Gentiles. 15 The words of the prophets are in agreement with this, as it is written:
16 "'After this I will return
and rebuild David's fallen tent.
Its ruins I will rebuild,
and I will restore it,
17 that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord,
even all the Gentiles who bear my name,
says the Lord, who does these things'
18 things known from long ago.
19 "It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God. 20 Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood. 21 For the law of Moses has been preached in every city from the earliest times and is read in the synagogues on every Sabbath."
The apostles and elders, your brothers,
To the Gentile believers in Antioch, Syria and Cilicia:
Greetings.
24 We have heard that some went out from us without our authorization and disturbed you, troubling your minds by what they said. 25 So we all agreed to choose some men and send them to you with our dear friends Barnabas and Paulâ 26 men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 Therefore we are sending Judas and Silas to confirm by word of mouth what we are writing. 28 It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements: 29 You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things.
Farewell.
30 So the men were sent off and went down to Antioch, where they gathered the church together and delivered the letter. 31 The people read it and were glad for its encouraging message. 32 Judas and Silas, who themselves were prophets, said much to encourage and strengthen the believers. 33 After spending some time there, they were sent off by the believers with the blessing of peace to return to those who had sent them. [34] 35 But Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch, where they and many others taught and preached the word of the Lord.
Romans 14:5
One person considers one day to be above another day. Someone else considers every day to be the same. Each one must be fully convinced in his own mind.
Yeah, old Ben may know brain surgery, but politics and theology are not his strong suits.
Enough.
Long enough to 'get his mind right'.
Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."
