Pope Francis told a Roman Catholic meeting on family issues on Monday that the Church should not be a stuffy "museum of memories" but have the courage to change if that was what God wanted.
Francis urged bishops at the start of a three-week gathering, known as a synod, to humbly empty themselves of conventions and prejudices. They should not "point fingers at the others to judge them" or feel superior to those with different ideas.
In a passage that appeared to be directed at unbending traditionalists, the pope said bishops should beware the "hardening of some hearts, which despite good intentions, keep people away from God".
Yet he also made a nod to conservatives, calling for courage that "does not let itself be intimidated by the seductions of the world" and passing fads....

“have the courage to change if that was what God wanted”
A few hundred year late, but okay.
That’s my thought too. Yesterday he was defending traditional marriage as unchangable and today he says the Church must be open to change.
As a former Episcopalian, I am sorry to say I have seen and heard all this before and I am praying for your church.

What’s the matter with you, can’t you see it’s the Holy Spirit doing a new thing? /s
If you think I think this Pope is no problem, you’ve never read anything I’ve written.
The notion that the art in the Vatican should be “sold” is the oldest, tiredest, and most preposterous of the suggestions for “reform” of the Church.
This pope is a Marxist.
Tells other people what to do but keeps the artworks for themselves.
Shakespeare had it right when he said “get thee to a nunnery” (for those in rio linda that was code of a house of ill repute)
I don't think so, I think he's inviting sinners to come into the church, "take" Communion and then carry on as always while the rest of us should stay in the pews because we're not "open" to the movement of the Holy Spirit.
I've never been so scared in all my life. I believe in One God. I believe in One, Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church... God is in control, it's His Church... I trust Him. But Thou O Lord are among us and Your Name is called upon by us, forsake us not.
God is a not a “God of surprises”. The Word of God is eternal and never changes. It’s Francis’ job to uphold the Word of God or resign.
Really? Then you tell me what good it does God to let people starve while all that treasure sits idly under wraps. Good luck explaining your position on judgement day.
He’s God. He doesn’t need it. I see nothing Biblical about treasure hording. Does the pope use it to fight gays? No. Abortion? No. Feed anyone? No. Do upkeep on churches? No. He just tells you go give more.
Most Holy Father, because He [Christ] has given you authority and because you have accepted it, you ought to use your virtue and power. If you do not wish to use it, it might be better for you to resign what you have accepted; it would give more honor to God and health to your soul . If you do not do this, you will be censured by God. If I were you, I would fear that Divine Judgment might descend on me Alas, Most Holy Father! At times obedience to you leads to eternal damnation”.
St. Catherine of Siena letter to Pope Gregory XI
Then why did Francis not tell that to his homo ex-student and his partner?
Yup! Religion is now an accommodation to the changing social issues. WRONG, Pope!

Much is made of the fact that in Shakespeare's time, 'nunnery' could have meant nunnery or whorehouse. But in the context in which it is used in Hamlet, it is clear that the standard definition of nunnery was meant. It makes no sense for Hamlet to say 'why wouldst thou be a breeder of sinners?' If he meant a whorehouse.
Doctrine doesn’t change.
Do you have ANY idea of the extent of the Vatican’s charitable activities? Do you have ANY idea how many Catholic schools, hospitals, etc., there are in the world?
Or does the Pope just spend his days wallowing in cash like Scrooge McDuck?
As for the “treasures,” they are ALREADY PUBLIC PROPERTY. They belong to the GOVERNMENT. I don’t hear you whining that the White House, or the Capitol, or the National Gallery of Art, or the National Portrait Gallery, or the Smithsonian’s treasures, should be “sold,” and “the money given to the poor.”
And what does it even MEAN to say they should be “sold.” To whom? And then, where would they BE? Would anyone be able to visit them?
Once the Pieta is “sold,” and the “money” given to the poor,” will you be squawking and moaning that Mr. Billionaire should “sell the Pieta and give the money to the poor”?
AD INFINITUM.
“Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.”
—Jeremiah 6:16
Let's pray the Pope eventually figures that out.
“As for the treasures, they are ALREADY PUBLIC PROPERTY. They belong to the GOVERNMENT. I dont hear you whining that the White House, or the Capitol, or the National Gallery of Art, or the National Portrait Gallery, or the Smithsonians treasures, should be sold, and the money given to the poor.”
What government? How many people not working for the RCC live in the country of “Vatican”? At what point did American govt or any other start saving souls?
You might want to rethink this one.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
