I was wondering where it was . . .
Well, we know what to think now.
What part of Catholic and Education do these people not understand?
The school principal should be fired as well.
Poorest excuse for objective journalism today but maybe not the worst ever. The lesbian in question is a fine example of Rule 24 in Limbaugh’s 35 Undeniable Truths of Life. Those who have decided to protest the firing ought to re-evaluate their commitment to Catholic teachings and move on down the road if they believe this decision by the school is wrong.
OK so the teacher got married in Boston 8 years ago. She’s been working at the school that whole time, the school knew she was gay and that she was married and was fine with it so long as the teacher didn’t discuss the matter with the students, and she appears to have complied with those directions. So having gone along with it for 8 years now the school says that having her violates Catholic teachings? Either the school has been violating Catholic teachings for 8 years and didn’t have a problem with it. Or something in Catholic teachings has changed within the past couple of weeks. Which is it?
It’s not “mercy” to let a person continue in objective evil. It’s also not “mercy” to allow children to be exposed to such obstinacy. Exactly what kind of role model do these parents expect for their precious little ones?
I’ll bet if she smoked on school grounds no one would have a problem with her being fired (not that anyone should be fired for that, it just goes to show their probable hypocrisy).
We all know “the smoker” is the greatest evil of our society who must be purged. Sleeping with another of the same sex? Eh, who cares. But SMOKE?! You’re the Devil himself!
There are plenty of schools that share her philosophy. Public schools, for instance. Let her teach in one of those.
Should never have hired her in the first place against their own doctrine and now shocker, consequences.
Uh, that would be the Word of God?
Good grief. And to think that parents are paying good money for their kids to attend this school.
Exactly where was that character and common sense 8 years ago? What precipitated a conscience here, now? Forgive me if I remain skeptical.
“The school’s principal released a letter which said, in part, “Our school recognizes the authority of the Archbishop of Philadelphia, especially in the teacher of religion to...to continue as a Catholic school, Waldron Mercy must comply with those teachings.”
But the Archdiocese of Philadelphia said Waldron Mercy is a private Catholic school and personnel decisions are made without the oversight of the Archdiocese.
On Monday, Archbishop Charles Chaput released a statement, which reads: “Schools describing themselves as Catholic take on the responsibility of teaching and witnessing the Catholic faith in a manner true to Catholic belief. There’s nothing complicated or controversial in this. It’s a simple matter of honesty. I’m very grateful to the Religious Sisters of Mercy and to the principal and board members of Waldron Mercy for taking the steps to ensure that the Catholic faith is presented in a way fully in accord with the teaching of the Church. They’ve shown character and common sense at a moment when both seem to be uncommon.””
“I think it’s good that she loves who she wants to love and that she’s happy, that’s all I care about,” said Katie Dewey, 7th grader.

Shows how successful the fired pervert has been at indoctrinating these young people.
Catholic schools can no longer give a nod and a wink to those teachers and other staff they know are living contrary to public teaching then “suddenly” discover these relationships and only then take action.
Ping!
Every school member who criticized and protested this dismissal of this lesbian should be shown the door as well.
