Mormon Church Makes First Ever Donation to LGBT Community
Good Magazine ^ | July 6, 2015 | Heather Dockray

Mormons and LGBT people historically haven’t gotten along. The church has been active in efforts to end gay marriage, and even the Supreme Court’s most recent opinion hasn’t deterred them from fighting. So that’s why it came as a surprise to almost everyone that the historically anti-gay church just made its first donation to an LGBT cause. While the church still doesn’t approve of homosexuality, that didn’t stop them from making a recent donation to the Utah Pride Center, an organization that helps to serve homeless LGBTQ youth...

...The Mormon Church donated approximately $2,500 to help fund the Pride Center’s food pantry, which serves close to 40 homeless youth every week...

#1: So, a sexually confused teen goes to the Utah Pride Center to initially simply receive food from its pantry. But the center utilizes the food distribution staging as an "outreach op" to further reinforce false worldviews and contribute to young people's (potential) spiritual bondage to sexual sin.

What? Is the Mormon Church so naive to think that the pride center believes its only "agenda" when it distributes food is to feed others?

#2 It's not like the Utah Pride Center operates the only food pantry in downtown Salt Lake City. In fact, that center is located only about 7 blocks from the Mormon Church's HQ @ Temple Square.

Bottom line: The Utah Pride Center has become a “satellite operation” of the Mormon Church!

I am not Mormon. I don’t think LDS qualifies as a Christian Church. That said I have always supported LDS in argument with people who are fanatically anti Mormon, many on FR, because LDS was preserving in its members the Christian norms and values that the rest of American Christian sects were shedding and ignoring. It looked to me like God was maintaining a repository of morality in a group that would maintain it even as Christians slipped away. That argument has taken a hit now.

A false religion performs corrupt acts. No surprise here.

Are these LGwhatever youth previously associated with the Mormons?

I do find it funny that there is a food pantry of sorts catering to a specific homeless situation- like homelessness is not bad enough, compound that with they are Lgwhatevers too!

$2500 seems like a drop in a bucket and it is money for food they are purchasing with it, right?

The church making a donation to feed gender confused homeless youth seems like a gesture of goodwill toward fellow man. Not condoning their acts but showing ‘love’ enough to provide food.

And I am not mormon- I think God is allowing Satan’s kingdom to be divided little by little over this gay, sex marriage issue -

which I find interesting given the implications of what I believe scripture hints at with what occurred in the garden before adam and eve fulfilled their marriage covenant.
but I am in the minority on that too probably.

“LDS was preserving in its members the **Christian norms** “

I don’t think you know what that phrase means.

As I said in post #1, that food can be provided to people -- even the same people -- via other conduits in downtown SLC...where the Mormons have set up their HQ.

As I also said there:

"So, a sexually confused teen goes to the Utah Pride Center to initially simply receive food from its pantry. But the center utilizes the food distribution staging as an "outreach op" to further reinforce false worldviews and contribute to young people's (potential) spiritual bondage to sexual sin. What? If you somehow are also naive enough to believe that all this "pride center" is "offering" is food, freepmail me 'bout some alligator-infested swampland that could make for a great "thrills" park.

Social relations, treatment of others, etc. I am NOT referring to polygamy of which the main line LDS had long purged itself. I also understand that to the fanatics it is impermissable to ascribe ANY good features to Mormonism and if the Mormons believe in and enforce heterosexual monogamy then either heterosexual monogamy is wrong or it is wrong for Mormons to subscribe to it. Discussion with such people is unprofitable, a mere stirring of the air.

Those are not “Christian norms”. They are simply morally good practices. Call it “good behavior”.

hehe. And that they do. You don’t meet many poor Mormons. I have thought of converting just for the financial benefit but then I was told if you don’t tithe they sow up at your house with a credit card machine, so I figured it’d be a wash. (: At least initially.
