Pope Francis Recruits Naomi Klein in Climate Change Battle

Social activist ‘surprised but delighted’ to join top cardinal in high-level environment conference at the Vatican

She is one of the world’s most high-profile social activists and a ferocious critic of 21st-century capitalism. He is one of the pope’s most senior aides and a professor of climate change economics. But this week the secular radical will join forces with the Catholic cardinal in the latest move by Pope Francis to shift the debate on global warming.

Naomi Klein and Cardinal Peter Turkson are to lead a high-level conference on the environment, bringing together churchmen, scientists and activists to debate climate change action. Klein, who campaigns for an overhaul of the global financial system to tackle climate change, told the Observer she was surprised but delighted to receive the invitation from Turkson’s office.

“The fact that they invited me indicates they’re not backing down from the fight. A lot of people have patted the pope on the head, but said he’s wrong on the economics. I think he’s right on the economics,” she said, referring to Pope Francis’s recent publication of an encyclical on the environment.

Release of the document earlier this month thrust the pontiff to the centre of the global debate on climate change, as he berated politicians for creating a system that serves wealthy countries at the expense of the poorest.

Catholics, those who have received sacraments, religious, and clergy, in that order are judged more harshly, according to logic and tradition, than innocents and those outside the faith. It is the priest who says,’pray for me, I’m in for a world of hurt in purgatory if I’m blessed enough to get even there’ who will be the holy one

‘I’m quite tired of being told if I’m not RC I’m not a Christian. I believe there are some saved RC’s just as I believe there are some protestants that are not saved. However most RC’s at least in this forum are unwilling to admit that one can be a Christian and be saved by the blood of Christ without being a member of their particular club’

No thanks to your offer. There is no purgatory and I will be with Christ the moment I leave this earth.

I gave you a thread posted on free republic with multiple replies downstream. This is one of the examples
I am glad your catechism recognized me as Christian, but many of your colleagues do not. Now I bid you good night, I have to work in the morning.

I agree and bishops have an especially tough road to hoe (trying to avoid the one paved with good intentions or the skulls of other bishops).

You are posting an Ann barnhardt thread to present an argument that the catholic creepers condemn Protestants?

You’ll have to do a whole lot better thsn tgat

Start with someone who isn’t constantly denigrating the Pope, tge bishops, the clergy and the faithful

A catholic, for instance, like I asked

The topic of the thread is “You can’t go to heaven if your aren’t Catholic”

and yes, she did get support from some FReepers.

I have zero colleagues who would tell you you were not Christian based on your non catholic status. So stop.

This is personal

I didn’t say that freepers would not tell her she wasn’t Christian. I said no catholic would tell her she wasn’t Christian. I provided tge catechism reference

I do not expect the incurious nor the anti catholic to ever read the catechism Certainly those who say they’re catholic can run around not reading tge catechism

The fact is that no follower of Catholicism would go about not reading tge catechism, following tge ever dark, cynical ann barnhardt, nor stating tgat a Protestant was not Christian

You are wasting my time

While the Pope and his followers are condemning those who made the weapons carried by his body guards and his Swiss Guard as not Christian, I am just asking for some civility.

It’s got to be tough being a Catholic with Pope Clown I wearing the big hat.

Fine. If you want to talk about what Catholics believe you’ll hear from the catechism. So stick to the bible and stay out of pretending to know Catholicism. You can do that, can’t you?
