On the first Sunday after Pope Francis issued a landmark document on the environment, Roman Catholics attending Mass in Kenya, France, Mexico, Peru, and the United States said they were thankful that he is using his pulpit to address climate change, pollution and global inequality.
But few priests or bishops other than in parts of Latin America used their own pulpits on Sunday to pass on the popes message, according to parish visits, interviews with Catholic leaders, and reports from Catholics after Mass.
Despite the urgent call to action in Francis document and the international attention it received, it will take some time to know whether Catholic clergy are familiar or comfortable enough with its themes to preach them to the faithful.
It traditionally takes months for papal teaching documents, known as encyclicals, to be read, understood and disseminated. And this one, Laudato Si or Praise Be to You: On Care for Our Common Home, is long, nearly 200 pages, and intricately weaves spiritual and moral teachings with economic, scientific, and political analysis. It includes a forceful denunciation of a global economic system that the pope says plunders the resources of the poor for the benefit of the rich, leaving the poor to disproportionately suffer the consequences, including the effects of climate change.

Mine did not. Though my parents got a stomach-churning lecture from their pastor. They are on the high side of 75 and are now thinking about leaving the Church.
Or to translate: full of bullsh!t, deliberate lies, and buzzwords
No kidding. I think a lot of priests were just embarrassed by it.
Not a word of it was spoken from the pulpit in the church I attend. It was a good homily synthesizing the readings regarding trust in God. Twins were also baptized.
This Pope is a far cry from Saint John Paul. This Pope advocates slavery and oppression. He just doesn’t realize it. It seems the Catholic Church is working on conversion to the Church of Man Made Global Warming. We must all worship and obey governments now.
Read yesterday a comparison of this document to the Unibomber’s Manifesto. Seems about right. Can’t imagine it getting much mention anytime soon. Pope Francis is destroying what is left of the Catholic Church with non-sense like this.
Papa Francisco is doing to the Catholic Church what Obama is doing to the USA.
“Pope Francis is destroying what is left of the Catholic Church with non-sense like this.”
It is much deeper. The Cardinals that brought him into the Vatican knew who they were bringing in.
Not sure how they could know this for sure. It seems their sample size wasn’t all that encompassing.
Also, I think this coming Sunday might be more indicative since many priests may have wished to read through the whole manifesto first before discussing it.
Unbelievable.Your parents should leave, there are plenty of Churches that would welcome them.
Thankfully not a word at my church.
Much attention was focused on Charleston instead.
This is a sad excuse for a Pope.
It was mentioned that the encyclical existed. Nothing more
Instead our homily was about the miracles of faith. It was very good.
The Catholic Church has been and is a leftist entity. It is dark and greedy and turned a blind eye to the sexual abuse of countless innocents. It is akin to the Democrat Party that is run by communists and Marxists. It meddles in things it does not have the moral foundation to comment on in the first place. I was raised in the middle of it, left and never looked back. Fantastic people are Catholics but the church itself is broken.
“Unbelievable.Your parents should leave, there are plenty of Churches that would welcome them.”
No, plenty of organizations would welcome them. There are only a few Churches. If you don’t understand the difference, then you’re not in a position to discuss this in any sensible way.
Not to mention the Gospel on Sunday was Mark 4:35-41, which literally flies in the face of what is said in the encyclical.
“Pope Francis is destroying what is left of the Catholic Church with non-sense like this.”
If you believe any man - even a pope - can destroy the Church, then you don’t understand what the Church is.
“The Catholic Church has been and is a leftist entity.”
That’s why it condemns communism?
