In September of 1996 I resigned my ministry as a Protestant pastor to enter the Catholic Church.
It was a decision that was easy for me to make in that I was convinced that Catholicism was true and that the Catholic Church was my spiritual home. It was a decision that was nearly impossible to make in that I understood the implications of that decision. I knew what it would entail in practical terms.
This was beautifully manifest, shall we say, when three months after leaving the ministry I was waiting tables at a restaurant in Encino. I was standing in the kitchen folding napkins and thinking about Martin Luther when I suddenly heard someone screaming. I looked to my right and saw my manager standing in the doorway literally screaming at me to fold the napkins faster.
I remember apologizing, cranking up the speed and thinking to myself, What the hell have I done?

My observation:
Roman Catholics point to Protestants and cry “Sola Scriptura”. Similarly, Protestants point and cry “Sola Eclesia”
Since NEITHER Roman Catholics nor Protestants are exclusively one or the other, the proper term instead of sola would be prima (primarily).
Protestants would therefor be prima scriptura and Roman Catholics would be prima eclesia.
Then of course we Jews have a different opinion seeings how Christianity is a Jewish sect.

No church is perfect. Not even the one in Acts 15 or Acts 6 (see Revelation 2 and 3). We need to rely on the Holy Spirit and constantly be digging into the Bible and investing in prayer.
My younger years were spent in Catholic school even though my parents had left the church. I deeply admire the reverence and respect shown in Mass. I appreciate the somber nature and especially the honor given the Eucharist. Nevertheless, there are many flaws with Catholic dogma as there are when any human gets in the way of “theology”. My major issue with the professor’s conclusion is that disavowing Sola Scriptura allows for non-Biblical practice such as prayer to the saints and Confession to a priest. These are not salvation issues as I perceive them and I believe Catholics to be every bit the saints that all believers in Christ are (Romans 10:9-10) but we need to be careful to judge properly.

This part doesn’t make sense why he included it. What was he thinking about Martin Luther at this time? Why did this make his napkin folding slower? Why was this an important moment in his spiritual life. And how did he go from a spirit of meditation to one filled with the H word?
It’s not Confession to a priest but to Jesus through his priest. Any 12 step program will tell you that you should share your story with a third person AND GOD. That’s confession. I once had a sin which I was very ashamed and concerned about. I prayed to Jesus and knew he forgave me and loved me. But I also knew that he wanted me to say this out loud and to a third party. I finally made it to a confessional at a parish other than my own and ended up confessing to a priest whom I’m pretty sure knew very little English. It was the grace of Jesus that I was there.
Weird that someone would study enough to become a pastor and then make such a major change. I’m glad he is happy. I think he is wrong.

What’s missing in the above?
No Jesus, no cross = no salvation, no redemption.
And of course we see, every day, how FRomanist disagree with the Pope, their own Catechism. How they disagree with each other.
And then we are told by the same bunch that Sola Scripture is unworkable.

Aside from the fact that nobody who calls Catholics “Romanists” can really be taken seriously, lock-step with the pope’s personal opinions is not required of Catholics. Maybe it is required in the false Catholicism that Protestants have build up and attempt to use to discredit the Church, but reality is, predictably, different.
I think Protestants and Catholics need to stop firing on each other, and remember our enemies are not of this world- the princes and principalities of the spiritual world- and they lead groups like Muslims, Homosexuals, and democrats.
This former minister’s jesus was probably born on rome’s December 25, killed on rome’s good friday and raised on rome’s easter sunday..
Funny those are according to the roman catholic church’s catechism and not according to scripture.. But most of the daughters go right along with their mother on things that could be easily refuted with some ‘sola scriptura’ if they held themselves to a little sola scriptura’ on things they do agree with Rome.
So he is in the right place for his faith- Rome..
At least rome’s gospel matches rome’s Jesus..
And Paul’s gospel matches another Jesus, not born on rome’s December 25, a jesus that laid His life down for our sins on Passover(not good Friday), according to to scripture , was buried and was raised the 3rd day, Feast of First Fruits( not easter).
But tough for people to see if they use rome’s Pope Gregory calendar to tell time..
Something the first reformers would have called Antichrist’s calendar if they were alive when it reached worldwide prominence . since they had no problem calling popes Antichrist’s.
Seems so trivial or subtle a difference but one is according to Rome and one is according to sola scriptura..
I heard the call to come out of her and this former minister heard go home to mother..
Sola scriptura was the only way to tell the counterfeit from the genuine..
No wonder he went to Rome.
Would have been nice had you said 'believing Catholics' instead of implying 'all' Catholics...And let's not forget, believers in Christ put their trust and faith in Jesus Christ while Catholics put their trust and faith in their religion...
