The forgiveness of Sins
Catholic.com ^ | Catholic Answers

All pardon for sins ultimately comes from Christ’s finished work on Calvary, but how is this pardon received by individuals? Did Christ leave us any means within the Church to take away sin? The Bible says he gave us two means.

Your comment: To date none have been able to.

I disagree. There has been many postings about those subjects.

Do your homework and I am sure that you can find detailed information if you are seeking the Truth.

Yes...I've read a lot of salvation's links. In fact some have been used to refute what catholics claim.

When I say none have been able to, I mean using the Word...taken in context and with its historical background taken into consideration. Not catholic talking points. Not reading something into the text that's not there.

Again, to this date, none have been able to.

You still haven't showed me where the words *mortal* or *venial* are found in Scripture. So lying isn't going to keep someone out of heaven?
It's not listed. Where does that fit in?
You do realize that ANY sin sends someone to hell, don't you? It NEVER specifies between severity of sin. WE are the ones who do that. On the contrary, the Holy Spirit tells us in Scripture.....

Actually where we think of a "lying" as a "small sin"...God does not

Rev 2; 8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars--they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death."

The truth is this..heaven will be full of sinners as will hell.. the difference is those in hell have no Savior

Confession (Reconciliation) is a Sacrament instituted by Christ for the forgiveness of sins. The priest or bishop is bound by secrecy not to reveal the contents of the confessional.

During his lifetime Christ sent out his followers to do his work. Just before he left this world, he gave the apostles special authority, commissioning them to make God’s forgiveness present to all people, and the whole Christian world accepted this, until just a few centuries ago. If there is an “invention” here, it is not the sacrament of penance, but the notion that the sacramental forgiveness of sins is not to be found in the Bible or in early Christian history. (From Catholic answers)

Excommunication ferendae sententiae can be public only, as it must be the object of a declaratory sentence pronounced by a judge; but excommunication latae sententiae may be either public or occult.

Again, I don’t agree with you.

If you found anything in Catholic teaching that was not from the word of God, then it would be on the major news networks.

Your personal opinion can be in error.

All things considered, we can safely state, therefore, that Christ most probably instituted baptism before His Passion

"all things considered?? If Baptism is essential...why would the scriptures not contain that ???

Baptism was a Jewish rite of conversion called Tevilah, that was a cleansing required for conversion .

John used this practice for conversion to the forerunner of Christianity.. ..calling men to repent.. His baptism did not call people to Christ..

When the apostles baptized that was a conversion to Christianity

797 “What the soul is to the human body, the Holy Spirit is to the Body of Christ, which is the Church.”243 “To this Spirit of Christ, as an invisible principle, is to be ascribed the fact that all the parts of the body are joined one with the other and with their exalted head; for the whole Spirit of Christ is in the head, the whole Spirit is in the body, and the whole Spirit is in each of the members.”244 The Holy Spirit makes the Church “the temple of the living God”:
Catechism of the Catholic Church

Ummmmm here I thought the church was the bride of Christ ...

2 Corinthians 11: ... I promised you as a pure bride to one husband--Christ. ... For I have betrothed you to Christ to present you to Him like a faithful bride to her one husband. ...

Eph 5 25Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, 26so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.…

7 Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; 8 was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”— for the fine linen is dthe righteous deeds of the saints. 9 And the angel said2 to me, “Write this: eBlessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, "These are the true words of God.”

Salvation has many links that will help you understand the teachings of the Catholic Church, along with many other Catholic links.

Are they the INFALLIBLE teachings of your church...or do they contain one mans opinion ?

If they are the infallible teachings the magisterium please cite the source material

If there are no direct scriptural sourcing and no direct magisterium sourcing then my friend that are all one mans personal opinion

Your comment:”The immaculate conception, by admission of catholic apologists, cannot be found or be supported by Scripture.

No direct or categorical and stringent proof of the dogma can be brought forward from Scripture.

http://www.catholic.org/encyclopedia/view.php?id=6056";

But you left out:

But the first scriptural passage which contains the promise of the redemption, mentions also the Mother of the Redeemer. The sentence against the first parents was accompanied by the Earliest Gospel ( Proto-evangelium ), which put enmity between the serpent and the woman : “and I will put enmity between thee and the woman and her seed; she (he) shall crush thy head and thou shalt lie in wait for her (his) heel” ( Genesis 3:15 )

Luke 1:28

The salutation of the angel Gabriel — chaire kecharitomene , Hail, full of grace ( Luke 1:28 ) indicates a unique abundance of grace, a supernatural, godlike state of soul, which finds its explanation only in the Immaculate Conception of Mary. But the term kecharitomene (full of grace ) serves only as an illustration, not as a proof of the dogma.

From the texts Proverbs 8 and Ecclesiasticus 24 (which exalt the Wisdom of God and which in the liturgy are applied to Mary, the most beautiful work of God’s Wisdom), or from the Canticle of Canticles ( 4:7 , “Thou art all fair, O my love, and there is not a spot in thee”)

Catholic apologists do not promulgate Catholic teaching. Some Catholic leaders have been wrong in their interpretations. This was done by Pope Pius IX with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit,

In the Constitution Ineffabilis Deus of 8 December, 1854, Pius IX pronounced and defined that the Blessed Virgin Mary “in the first instance of her conception, by a singular privilege and grace granted by God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ , the Saviour of the human race , was preserved exempt from all stain of original sin.”

Better yet, he’s driving in a 20 mph school zone, at 22mph, even though his speedometer reads 19 mph, has a heart attack and dies immediately without confession. Heaven or Hell?

Better yet, since St Peter has the keys to the gates, regardless the decision, what happens if one of those decisions happens to not line up with the Plan of God?

Of course these simply expound upon 3 classic blasphemies of Divine Justice.

1) To confess sins to other believers. They cannot absolve you from sin or return you to fellowship with God.

2) To feel sorry for your sins and substitute that sorrow for repentance as a method of returning to God and counting on that for forgiveness.

3) To go through some system of penance or works for forgiveness.

Our self-righteousness and human good is dead works, Heb6. All human works are excluded from salvation through faith alone in Christ alone.
All human self-righteousness is excluded from the unique
Plan of God for the Church. Immorality is also excluded.

God’s righteousness does accept our righteousness in faith alone.
No one is saved because they are good.
No one is saved because of self-righteousness.
No one is saved because of their works.

I left it out as the first sentence says it all. Yet catholics plow right ahead and try to find something in the text that's not there. And then they twist the scripture to read something that's not there to make it fit the narrative.

They reference a early writing that was rejected by the early church in the Earliest Gospel ( Proto-evangelium).

If this text is so crucial to Catholicism and Mary then why didn't the rcc include it in the canon at Trent when they had the chance??

I'm not even going to go into Luke 1:28 as there is nothing in this text that says Mary was immaculately conceived and neither do the other texts catholics cite.

Again, the burden is on catholicism to show with crystal clarity where the text says Mary was immaculately conceived or assumed, etc.

That the pope had to wait until 1854 to make this "dogma", and it was only after a groundswell of the laity and clergy petitioning him for this that he made this dogma.

Really....the vicar of Christ has to wait until public opinion wants something and then he declares it dogma??

If it was as clear as catholics contend, this would have been put to bed very, very early in the life of the church.

That is wasn't speaks volumes.

It's a good thing Paul wasn't swayed by public opinion in Galatians and his other writings as easily as the pope was.

'The Woman' is also referenced in Revelation at Rev 12:4&5 and Matthew 2:13. In Rev it is agreed by most that this is Israel bringing forth the Christ who is caught up into Heaven. In Matthew it is clearly referring to Mary, the Mother of Jesus. Your Rheims entry clearly refers to Israel, not Mary specifically, as you possibly realize because you added a little something in parenthesis:

"I will put enmity between thee and the woman and her seed; she (he) shall crush thy head and thou shalt lie in wait for her (his) heel”

If I'm not mistaken, this is called playing fast and loose with the texts. The 'she shall crush thy head' can refer to Jesus as the means to crush the serpent's head and this would give credence to the woman, the 'she' being Israel. The second place you insert 'his' you create a useful confusion which draws focus away from the initial prophecy of ISrael being pursued by the dragon through History until Jesus was born and grew to manhood.

I'll ask you, how many of your sins were in the future when Jesus was upon the cross? ... Justification is a legal decree of not guilty by reason of His substitutionary declaration from the Cross. So to teach that the proclamation can be lost then obtained, again and again, and again is to strike the rock the second time for water, rather than do as told, to speak to it. You restrict the water of life offered freely 'to all who will', trying to make it commandable by the nicotailanizing of the institutional church of Rome. Jesus said clearly that he hates that ...

>>she (he) shall crush thy head and thou shalt lie in wait for her (his) heel” ( Genesis 3:15 )<<

The Hebrew word for "he" is ה֚וּא and the Hebrew word for "she" is הִ֛וא. There is a distinct difference. The Hebrew word הִ֛וא (she) is NOT used in Genesis 3:15. The Hebrew word ה֚וּא (he) IS used in Genesis 3:15. The Catholic Church has changed the words of scripture to claim something that is NOT true and therefore lies.

And catholics claim Luther changed the words when it is they who have not only changed the words they double down and stay with a false understanding to promote the worship of mary.

and they wonder why we question all they teach.
