Fox News contributor Bernard Goldberg told Bill OReilly last week that Republicans live in fear of the organized Christian right.
Goldberg and OReilly were discussing presidential candidate Ted Cruz, who recently asked a local reporter in Texas if the left including the media is obsessed with sex, after reporters repeatedly badgered him with questions about gay marriage and homosexuality. Both said that Cruz handled the question well, even though Goldberg admitted, Im not a fan of Ted Cruz. But Goldberg had more to say.
Ted Cruz could have said, of course, I have no animosity against gay Americans. Next question, Goldberg said. But you know why he didnt? Because every Republican lives in fear of the organized Christian right. There may not be a lot of people in the organized Christian right, but they have a very big megaphone, and [Republicans] live in daily and deathly fear of what they would do if you even say, Oh, I have no animosity against gays, thats what theyre afraid of.
He added, There are more than a few conservative Christians Im not saying a majority or anything like that more than a few who not only are against gay marriage, Bill, but detest gays, period.
Goldberg offered the hate mail he receives as proof of the Scary Christian Right Wing Monster.
I know this because when I come on this program and say Im for gay marriage, I dont only get e-mails from people who are against it fair enough. Reasonable people can disagree on that, he said. I get e-mails from people who write the most vile things about gays, and they proclaim their Christianity. And I know for a fact that you get the same kind of e-mails.
Goldberg didnt say how many of these hateful emails hes received five ten fifty? But he paints an evocative tale of a breathtakingly powerful Christian group one that threatens to bring down the entire GOP fueled by shadowy figures who refuse to evolve on marriage. And theyre all sitting in their parents basements in their underpants sending Goldberg emails or something.
Bill OReilly, who has 3.3 million viewers on an average night, countered, I have to say, I dont get many of those. And the fringe is different.
Wait, wait. Hold on. Im not willing to accept that its a fringe you dont know what percent percentage it is, and I dont know what percentage it is. I know its too many, and animated Goldberg shot back.
So according to Bernie, its not a fringe and its more than a few conservative Christians, but not a majority or anything. So, somewhere between a fringe and the majority, I guess.
Which means hes willing to entertain the possibility that these vile emails are representative of Christianity in the main.
Goldberg didnt say what criteria he uses to judge these vile emails. If a Christian emails him and says she believes the traditional Christian teaching that unrepentant homosexuals (and thieves and liars, et al) are in danger of eternal punishment, does that go onto the vile pile on Goldbergs desk?
how many of those letters come from members of Westboro Baptist Church? Hardly a fair representation of Christians.
So “are liberals sexual obsessives?” What is the direct answer to the question?
Conservative Christian bashing is nothing new on FNC, Gutfeld was also bashing them yesterday.
Bernie Goldberg is a blow bag has been and a never will be conservative who loves to hear the sound of his own voice . Useless is a great description .
Isn’t Gutfeld something of a libertarian or some such? I thought Bill Schultz, even though he was a bit liberal, was the funny one.
I’m sure there are people that call themselves Christians that “hate fags” and tell everybody that the “fags” are going to hell (Westboro Baptists come to mind). I’m pretty sure most real Christians are not writing Bernard Goldberg as they have better things to do with their time. I’m also pretty sure there’s a lot of hypocrisy to go around in all groups of people (especially those that work for any major media including Fox). It’s easy to paint with a broad brush those we disagree with. Christians should be held to a higher standard - but Christians, at least, have one. It’s easy to slide to the mushy middle where no one believes anything until the negatives of doing so impact their little world - then their all righteous and indignant. The self-life remains the most popular. It is not the way of the cross. The Bible states that all who practice iniquity and lawless will not see the Kingdom of God - that includes a lot more than those that practice homosexual behavior. But it does include them. Christians have a duty to warn the world of the coming judgement and the opportunity for repentance now. They are to do this in such a way that the only thing that’s offensive is the message they share and the remedy (the cross of Christ) that they offer. Bernard will have to answer for Bernard (just like everybody else).
I am a Christian (follower of my Lord an Savior, Jesus Christ). I am also very conservative. I believe that God will judge the deviant dung punchers, just as he did with Sodom and Gomorrah. Do I judge or hate them? No need to...God does. In the work place I have defended such people when they were subjected to ‘discriminatory’ actions by others. I have recently known some, and consider them friends.
Goldberg is a leftist seeking an issue.
That could work for me.
>> He said that Jesus teaches that we should love everyone, but that does not mean we approve of everything that others do or believe if they are against Christian teaching.
Yep. Right answer. To paraphrase what JESUS said: “Then neither do I condemn you [to death by stoning... but] Go and SIN NO MORE.”
Ted Cruz has obviously read his Bible — and GOD’s word informs his ideology as well as his behavior.
A truly lost soul.
They're not even Jews.
I’m sure Bernie does get a lot of hate mail from all kinds of crazy people.
True. And I think a few proto-candidates were watching in 2012, including Cruz. But I have yet to see the man who could take apart the left wing media and stomp on the pieces the way Newt did.
I havent heard a peep against Ted Cruz from anyone who wouldnt vote for hillary...
I smell a landslide in our future
There is hate here. Contempt and lack of humility, as if anyone can have anything to boast of before God.
On Romans 1, I read that more as peoples, who turn away from God to their selfish pursuits. Then a sign of that in their land is homosexual sin is tolerated and even celebrated.
I think Cruz is just getting warmed up. Anyone who has won that many debates and Supreme Court cases is not someone to take lightly. Hell, the freshman debate series at Princeton University is named after him. What, if anything, is named after Mr. Obama at Occidental, Columbia or Harvard?
So glad I stopped watching O’Blowhard’s program years ago.
Bernie is a leftie Jew. All Christians scare him.
