Pope Francis Says the Devil Is Keeping Evangelicals and Catholics Divided: 'We Are One'

Pope Francis has said that it's the devil himself who keeps evangelicals, Catholics, and Christians from other denominations divided, and rejected the notion that it's heretical to believe that all Christians are one.

"Division is the work of the 'Father of Lies,' 'the Father of Discord,' who does everything possible to keep us divided," Francis said in a video message to a gathering sponsored by the John 17 Movement, according to Catholic Herald.

"I feel like saying something that may sound controversial, or even heretical, perhaps," he added. "But there is someone who 'knows' that, despite our differences, we are one. It is he who is persecuting us. It is he who is persecuting Christians today, he who is anointing us with (the blood of) martyrdom."

Francis added that the devil "knows that Christians are disciples of Christ, that they are one, that they are brothers! He doesn't care if they are Evangelicals or Orthodox, Lutherans, Catholics or Apostolic … he doesn't care! They are Christians."

The Roman Catholic Church leader insisted that "division is a wound in the body of the church of Christ. And we do not want this wound to remain open," he said, urging for Christians to seek unity together and pray for one another.

There was a time when all of Christendom was united. It was called the "Dark Ages". The Bible tells us that divisions are actually our strength. It is in our division that we can hold each accountable and make sure that the devil himself does not take charge. The Bible says the following...

1 Cor 11: 18 For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it. 19 For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.

I also have issues with certain Roman Catholic FReepers who belittle those who follow Christ apart from the Roman Catholic Church.

I don't doubt there are plenty of those around, though on this thread what I see is a long list of rather belittling attacks on Catholics.

Amen! I just watched a documentary about the Catholic priest pedophiles on HBO called “Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence In The House Of God”. Catholics should watch and learn how their church operates. All the way up to the top guy. Everyone protecting eachother because this is how their church does business. A must see but beware...it’s horrifying.

This doc shows what happens when folks put their trust in a church/man instead of Jesus and the Word.

No doubt it's a horrifying documentary....the truth about the catholic church and how it operates generally is when people take the time to look at how it really operates.

An acquaintance went to catholic seminary and left in a few months because the “gayity” was so thick and invasive there. He was beyond shocked with how aggressive the men were as well as the Priests. Of course many catholics are just as guilty for refusing to see it remains a problem.

I was dumbfounded at the number of their priests involved from all over the world. I doubt much has changed since the doc went all the way to Ratzinger.

I wasn’t surprised at all but then I was aware of the cover up for several years now as I took an interest in what was happening regarding child abuse in the catholic church, as well as the issues with homosexuality and other deviant behavior among Priests etc.

I think it’s important to remember that the catholic church is very much about secrecy when it comes to anything involving what might be proved to be a scandal of any sort...and for that matter anything which might discredit the church. This is also thick among members of the church who even with obvious proof... denial, avoidance and discredit are used heavily to protect the church in general. It’s basically part of their “policy”, if you will.

All cults and false religions use such tactics and others in order to retain their membership and the revenues which the membership generate.
