The snake handlers are out in force tonight, I see. But here’s a real question: If there is disagreement in Protestant teachings as to whether “once saved, always saved” is a valid doctrine (and believe me, I wish it were!) then where is the violent disagreement between Geneva and Rome?
As a Catholic I don’t know from one second to the next whether I will die in a state of grace and go to see the Lord. So I literally walk on eggshells.
How many times a day do I utter the words, “Forgive me, Lord?” I don’t know. How un-Christian is that?
As are the mariolators.
I John 5:10-13 Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may *KNOW* (emphasis mine) that you have eternal life.
God wants us to KNOW that we HAVE eternal life.

That's why He told us in Scripture, right in these very verses.
And here are more, spoken by Jesus Himself.
John 5:24 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
John 10:25-30 Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father's name bear witness about me, but you do not believe because you are not among my sheep. Jesus came to set us free. Free from sin. Free from death. Free from FEAR.

It's not unChristian. However, it demonstrates a lack of trust in Jesus both in what He did and what He said/says.

How sad to live your life like that...That is not what God intended...We are not under bondage...
We also utter 'God forgive me' all day long...But we don't walk on eggshells...We have no fear of being thrown out of the family of God...We have no fear that we are going to un-adopted children of God...
We utter 'God forgive me' because we are remorseful that we have sinned against God...He gives us the means to be good but we constantly fail him...Thank God he doesn't fail us...

The same here. But I do it out of sadness that I disappoint and do disservice to a God that has given me so much. It's my spirit side that has changed but the flesh side is still weak.
