Going to confession is one of the beautiful sacraments of the Catholic Church ... it certainly isn’t dead in any of the Tridentine Masses I’ve attended.
Not in my parish!
The number of diehard Freepers interested in these discussions is minuscule.
I know I am put off by the constant blizzard of religion dogmatic fanatics.
Or the army of the GLBTXYZ pro-sodomy crowd.
Can't tell them apart, sometimes.
I know this is the Catholic Caucus thread, but I read these threads with much interest. I hope it is OK to merely say that I wish my Methodist denomination had “confession” with our clergy. I think it is a wonderful tradition of the historic and Spirit led church. We are missing something important by not having it.

Sin is even more prevalent.
My theory is that the daddy of all deadly sins, pride, is keeping people away. They think they know better than God.
If your a democrat you have nothing to confess.
Ever since the democrat (in name only) party kicked out any reference to God or Our Creator at their 2012 national convention there has been no such thing as sin.
It also explains why they lie so much/s
Just to clarify, normal doesn’t mean a mathematical average discussing beliefs. That’s way too low.
Moral/Societal norms is when a vast/large/almost all people believe the same thing. We’re talking like hetero/homo, blacks voting for democrats percentages.
Well - maybe if there were actual confessionals....

Confession one hour a week before the vigil Mass for a parish of several thousand families only sends the message that it must not be too big of a deal.

I've never doubted that he may have been right. My complaint is he could never have discerned that in a 25 second one-way conversation.
I thought when the Catholic Church could inflict us with clowns like this, confession was no longer for me.
I may have a change of heart before I check out. We shall see.
Today was the First Reconciliation of Rose, 7. Her Dad was “too busy” to take her to her class’ formal 1st, we were moving the week before and had a pre scheduled charity event with 9 beneficiaries in a semi formal ceremony for which we are primarily responsible the week after, we “forgot”.
We were instrumental in turning it around today, Deo Gratias. Rose received the gift of rose soap, a six pack of expensive cupcakes for Rose to share, she got 2. She got a rose colored bible.
We all were ready to go to Confession, I explained to Rose how, after absolution, God forgets her sins, the priest can’t remember them immediately afterwards, the Sacrament thoroughly tranforms her, no “dung covered over with snow”. I told Rose what my confession would be, from start to finish, but there were 12 people in line, so it will have to wait for next Saturday.
Rose was thrilled with the gifts and the ceremoniality. If there’s any chance she will avail herself of the Sacrament lifelong, Rose has received it.
There are many liberal Parishes where equivocation on Church teachings and the notion of consequences have lead many to avoid any sense of guilt.
My younger sister teaches at a Catholic school, is in the church choir, and receives communion every week. She told me last year that she hasn’t gone to confession in about 30 years.
My priest told me you don’t have to go to confession as long as you have a clear conscience. They don’t want to hear that you had a bad thought. Or you went over the double yellow line on the highway. So I have a clear conscience at the moment. If I do something bad I’ll scurry to confession.
If you think it is dead, you attend the wrong church. We have them on Saturday afternoons, 3:30-5, long lines; on Wednesday evenings; Sunday before the Latin mass at 1 and ANY TIME you request one. The lines are long.
Confession is not dead for those that take their Catholic faith serious. I go every week, whether I have committed a moral sin or not.

Is Confession Dead? >>
not in Polish churches, the ones by me offer confession daily and there are lines every Saturday. They are very devoted Catholics.
