Who is watching Joel Osteen? Not I! But he does amaze me. How can he preach on the exact same topic every Sunday--"God wants me to be better"--and, yet make it seem different?
When it comes to Christian media, and who accesses it, the numbers are revealing. Who Is Watching TV or Listening to Christian Radio?
Only 8% of Americans admit to watching Christian television regularly--I'll bet the demographics here are interesting. Probably older women with blue hair, who live below the Mason-Dixon line, and east of Mississippi.
24% watch Christian TV "sometimes," 27% "rarely," and 40% "never."
Christian radio fares a tad worse. 10% listen "regularly," 17% "sometimes," 19% "rarely," 52% "never."
Podcast numbers are low (the media is new). 4% "regularly," 10% "sometimes," 11% "rarely," 72% "never."
The numbers also show that
67 percent of Americans never or rarely watch Christian-based programming on television. Those who do watch at least sometimes are overwhelmingly self-identified evangelicals (69 percent) and weekly churchgoers (62 percent).
71 percent never or rarely listen to Christian radio. Those who do are similar to the Christian TV crowd 67 percent are evangelicals and 57 percent are weekly churchgoers.
84 percent of Americans never or rarely listen to Christian-themed podcasts. Books and movies fared slightly better: 33 percent said they at least sometimes read Christian-based books. And 40 percent report seeing a Christian movie in the last year.
Joel bothers people because he is a heretic.
Exactly. I am not too thrilled with God’s plan for my life, and the thought that he drafted it just for me eons before I was born really ticks me off. I have let go and let God to no avail. Not too thrilled with God’s plan for the people who had their heads sawed off, or the 20 day old baby that got left in the ditch, or all the people that drowned on the Titanic or all the people that got murdered by Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Che Guevera or for God’s plan for Joan of Arc, St. Peter, St. Paul or even St. Mary having to watch her Son crucified.
So, give me another plan God.
“I thank God we, as Americans have so many different churches to choose from or not.”
Are you really thinking that? Do you really think it was Christ’s desire that there be 20,000 different branches of Christianity? His own words stated that he wanted us all to be one, just like He is one with the Father.
Changing channels is not going to get you closer to Him, because you are switching away from one falsehood to another.
Think about you statement, and the logical conclusion.
Most ministers I know do that.
Some day we will have one Christian denomination when our Lord Jesus comes. Until then we are all at different stages of our walk with Him I learn from listening to different Pastors, Rabbi’s and teachers. There are many knowledgeable Christian pastors on tv and the internet. Yes, I am happy that I am not in China, Iran, etc where the government chooses who I listen to. BTW, I don’t listen to Pastor Olsen but I have friends that do and they love the Lord and like the pastor.
He gives the creeps the way he turns his head while he closes his eyes and only opens them when he done turning his head. In fact, my writing this has given me the creeps.
He does, however, have a hot wife.
Too bad there’re no crosses anywhere in his “church.”
"There is a power in the Universe greater than you are, and you can use it." -- Dr. Ernest Holmes
Still wonder why ol' Ernest can't "heal" himself to give him a real head of hair and a neck. I've been watching this goober for years with his so-called healing and slapping heads. BBAAAAYAABEE! JEEYYYAASSSUH! HEEEEEEYAAAAHHHHHHLLLL! OOOUUUUTTT FOOOWELL SPPEEERITTTZZZUUUHHH!
Yes. Of course. All Christians profess love of the lord. It is easy to do,
The question is, what did Jesus mean when he talked about those to which He will say, “I never knew you?” What about “the road is wide but the gate is narrow?”
Doesn’t that seem to suggest that it is more than flicking to the next channel, but really digging in to His word, and acting upon it? It is about more than this piddly life we have here.
Our nature is not one that normally takes the hard road, even when we profess it. Peter was with Christ! He had the words of LIFE constantly around him, and he STILL couldn’t stand at Christ’s time of need.
And we, poor fools, change channels...so that we can hear words that are more comfortable.
None of them have the words of Life, and even if they did, we still wouldn’t listen.
This is what is truly amazing about the depth and breadth of LOVE from our Lord. Staggering, when you think about it.
And we just argue over breadcrumbs. To put it succinctly, “we suck.”
Dr. Gene Scott was separated at Birth from his Twin Brother, Evel Knievel.
I know your intentions are good. God Bless You.
It gives them a reason they can understand. They don't understand that when the Bible says "And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually" it is not speaking of people not tipping their hat to their neighbor.
It was one big ISIS everywhere.
People can't grasp that level of corruption so they try to make it about something else.
That’s right. And I’ve been letting this miserable winter irritate me. I’m a truck driver, pulling flatbed or stepdeck during the winter months. The dealing with the cold while chaining, strapping, tarping, etc. is draining on a 60 yr old.
I told my wife that I now hate winter more than ever. I hate winter so much, that if the guvmint knew how much I hate winter, they would have me arrested for a hate crime.
I enjoy listening to archived broadcasts of J. Vernon McGee’s Through the Bible series. I don’t always agree with his eschatology, but he had a great teaching style and he truly, truly loved Jesus.
M4L??? I'm not familiar with the meaning of that shorthand. :-)
Thanks! I will have to check that out.
I think it means, “Marine for Life”
Amazing website! Thanks for posting!
They even have some old classic sermons (re-read, of course) such as:
Sinners in the Hands of God
Jonathan Edwards | Sunday Service
Turning back in the day of battle
C. H. Spurgeon | A blast from the past
The Joy of the Lord, the Strength of His People
C. H. Spurgeon
Nehemiah 12:42-43
Mark for later. A message to me, to visit later. Something interesting, or good reference info.
Many of them probably couldnt explain substitutionary atonement or imputation, but theyve got the Sons of God and the rapture down.
They talk big.
so I ignored all of the more outrageous Nephilim and Book of Enoch stuff until I stumbled into a series done by a reformed pastor (Presby P.C.A.). It was a three-part series in which he rather reluctantly concluded the Scriptures favored the fallen angel view of Genesis 6, not the Sethite view common in reformed circles.
I wouldn't have much problem with the fallen angel view, if it weren't for what the whackos "itching ears" crowd does with it.
