A longtime Catholic school priest at a renowned New York City school has admitted to sexually abusing minors in the 1970s and 1980s, and local prosecutors are now investigating, authorities say.
Father Robert Harrison, a priest who taught for 26 years and coached basketball for more than 20 years at the all-boys Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, has been removed from the school and is barred from any sort of ministry as church and law enforcement officials investigate.

“I dont think the Episcopalian priests are famous for homosexuality, are they?”
Famous enough, especially in regard to ephebophilia: http://reformation.com/CSA/episcopalianabuse.html
“Celibacy is the portal which homosexuals used to fill the ranks of an undermanned clergy.”
So why are there so many child molesters among MARRIED Episcopal clergy? http://reformation.com/CSA/episcopalianabuse.html
“The first was the sack of Rome in the 5th century when much of the clergy and Church documents were destroyed.”
Didn’t happen. Yes, there was the sack of the Visigoths in 410. No, they did not kill much of the clergy nor were any notable number of documents replaced that were not in other places. There was no “existential crisis”. What you’re “elderly priest” did was extrapolate - incorrectly - from two works: Augustin’s City of God and Boethius’ Consolation of Philosophy.
“the second was the East/West schism.”
Again, there was no “existential crisis” there either. The Church was the Church.
“The third was the Reformation.”
Again, no “existential crisis” there either. Trent was about recognizing what was known not an “existential crisis”.
“Now it is the crisis of vile homosexual priests defiling the sacred and molesting children.”
Again, this too is not even remotely an “existential crisis”. The problem is sinful men, not the Church.
“The Church weathered the first three and even prospered. It is by no means clear how this current crisis will be resolved.”
The Church will weather this “crisis” and even prosper. The Church always does.
Evidently not, or we would know it, only one church denomination’s leadership is famous for homosexuality among it’s ranks.
Really? Which one?

“We would be naïve and dishonest were we to say this is a Roman Catholic problem and has nothing to do with us because we have married and female priests in our church. Sin and abusive behavior know no ecclesial or other boundaries.” Rt. Rev. William Persell, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago, Good Friday Sermon, 2002. “

Which one is famous for homosexuality among it’s leadership, as my post pointed out?
That is the Catholic denomination.
I know of far too many (which is anything over zero) priests, but can you enlighten us on the leadership?
I think of the Catholic leadership as Priests, and on up the ladder.
“Evidently not, or we would know it...”
Evidently, since some of us do know it, the real problem would seem to be with the knowledge level of those who don’t.
From your lips to....
Famous for it, evidently not, only the men of the Catholic leadership are famous for homosexuality.
I dont think the Episcopalian priests are famous for homosexuality, are they?
Another one from 30-40 years ago.
I invite you to take a good look at the reformation.com link above. It lists details on over 830 protestant church leaders (last updated in 2003) in the same boat.
That’s just one reference, and there are many others out there.
And no, I am not defending what happened in my church by saying others do it too. More like inviting others to look in their own backyard before throwing rocks at my house.
Now, in the spirit of reasoned discussion, I will ask if you have gone beyond the initial outrage at the abuses by the priests and the cover-ups by the leadership (which is well deserved, and certainly expressed by the Catholic laity), and investigated how the church has worked to reform itself?
Have you looked into the child protection standards and requirements that are now in place?
Are you aware that in order to have any contact with kids in my parish (coaching, field trip chaperon, room parent, scout leader, etc), that I had to undergo a comprehensive background check and training program? And that part of that involves training on identifying danger signs of predators, including clerics?
I invite you to point out any other religious organization that has done as much (although belatedly) to protect and prevent recurrences.
Please do some research and due diligence. Unless you’d rather just throw grenades.
I think they are related, in the following way. Beginning in the 1960s, tens of thousands of Catholic priests "came out" by marrying a woman. Depending on how they did it, their departures were either (relatively) peaceful or quite stormy. Nonetheless, the longstanding success with the discipline of celibacy was severely harmed, and the number of active, healthy priests declined somewhat.
The same forces arising out of society's fascination with "sexual liberation" had their effect on homosexual priests, as well. But they could not "come out" as so many heterosexual priests did, and because they stayed behind when their heterosexual brother priests departed to marry, their RELATIVE numbers among practicing clergy increased.
The presence of healthy, heterosexual men in the rectories prior to 1965 was a factor that inhibited the emergence of a homosexual subculture, which really took off as the proportion of homosexuals in the clergy increased, as outlined above.
IF it had been possible to retain the married priests, I don't think things would have taken quite so bad a turn.
Maybe the Pope should stop worrying about global warming and concentrate more on stopping these guys from grabbing little kid’s weiners!
I don’t think you are reading my posts or why I originally posted, if you are, you keep ignoring it.
There is only one church denomination’s leadership that is famous for homosexuality.
“Now, in the spirit of reasoned discussion”
Okay, I see that’s not going to happen here.
If you ignore my posts, then so be it, I don’t know why you started, or kept posting to me.
Paul was not addressing clergy...Paul is saying it is good not to have sex but if you can't resist, quit the ministry get married...When Paul was addressing clergy, he was repeating what he was taught from Jesus Christ and the rules of engagement are that clergy will be married with children...
Every Catholic clergy in the world is in violation of the instructions from God...
Probably is...But they are unqualified for the clergy...
Did they check to see if you are a homo??? 'Normal' altar boys are recruited into queerdom by queer priests...Many of those altar boys grow up to be priests...
It would be interesting to know how many of the homo priests were molested by older males while they were young...
What they have done is take the opportunity away, whether you are “homo” or not.
