I'm not sure how well-educated this Pope is, but the Jesuits are probably the best educated priests in the Church. Obviously, they lean way left.

You’re thinking of a long gone generation of Jesuits. While there are some exceptions, most modern Jesuits are not very well educated. Bergoglio may have gotten a good basic education, but he sure didn’t keep it up, and at the time he would have been in seminary, the “old stuff” was already being thrown out in favor of liberation theology, etc.
