The reason for this article is to determine if the worship/veneration given to Mary by the catholic church is justified from a Biblical perspective. This will be evaluated using the Biblical standard and not mans standard.
So have FACTS!
I guess this PROVES that your Catholic Church from day one was NOT teaching the correct stuff; if learned Catholics had OPINIONS of just what they were supposed to be teaching!!!
(Or else...
...they were poorly catechized.)
The Jews could!
Even a simple carpenter's son...
Then how do you, Rome Robert, explain the 7 churches in ASIA?
THEY were NOT 'right' and you HAVE to claim them as CATHOLIC!
How do you get away with this ? Oh, I know.
Good Morning!
Thanks
They may......
I don't.
Longevity is no guarantee of truthfulness.
There’s plenty of religions which have been around as long as or longer than Catholicism. By your kind of reasoning, then they must be more true and correct as Catholicism cause after all, God must have protected them otherwise why would they have lasted so long.
No, truth claims must be based on and fall in line with Scripture and it doesn’t matter if an organization has been around 2 years or 2,000. If their teachings are not based on Scripture, they’re wrong.
And I would no more trust the extra-Biblical revelation claims of Mormonism or Jim Jones, than I would of Catholicism.
People can claim all kinds of extra-Biblical revelation and all kinds of granted authority, but their say so does not make it so and anyone who simply takes their word for it is sure to end up on the broad path of destructing that leads to hell.
Anyone can
You need to stop listening to revisionist history.
All that rationalization people use to explain away why there were allegedly no copies of Scripture in the hands of the lay people is a bunch of bunk.
The Catholic church prohibited the owning of Scripture by anyone but them.
Catholics prohibited from owning Scripture
COUNCIL OF TOULOUSE - 1229 A.D Canon 14. We prohibit also that the laity should be permitted to have the books of the Old or New Testament; unless anyone from motive of devotion should wish to have the Psalter or the Breviary for divine offices or the hours of the blessed Virgin; but we most strictly forbid their having any translation of these books.

Maitland, Facts and Documents [illustrative of the history, doctrine and rites, of the ancient Albigenses & Waldenses], London, Rivington, 1832, pp. 192-194.
The Council of Tarragona of 1234, in its second canon:
No one may possess the books of the Old and New Testaments in the Romance language, and if anyone possesses them he must turn them over to the local bishop within eight days after promulgation of this decree, so that they may be burned lest, be he a cleric or a layman, he be suspected until he is cleared of all suspicion. (-D. Lortsch, Historie de la Bible en France, 1910, p.14.)
And even as I was growing up, NOBODY was encouraged to read the Bible. We were told that it wasn't our place to do so, that we couldn't understand it on our own, without the *church* interpreting it for us, just let the church do it for us and do what you were told and don't argue back. After all, they're the experts about God and what do I know?
What a racket the enemy has going in keeping people from coming into right relationship with God and keeping God at arms length.
Thanks A-G, you always come through.
LOL!!!
You just described me to a *T*.
By that assertion I take it you believe the book of Hebrews was not written by Paul.
He tells the truth unlike some catholic posters. All anyone has to do is read the Bible. Like I said in another post, we need to investigate what we read or are told to see if it is Biblical. There are loads of info out there to see if anything is true or just tradition. When I see that word, I can not help thinking about people voting for dems just because my pappy, grand pappy and great grand pappy voted that way. Learn to think for yourselves and see if we are being told the truth. Quit depending on men who are not perfect. Depend on what the Bible says.
you still refuse to acknowledge that the RCC did indeed tamper with the Scripture (thus changing it, before changing it back in 1979 or so) in their own Latin Vulgate
That is a translation, not the original, and that is normal textological work, not "tampering".
Not in the least. First, St. Paul wrote centuries before St. Jerome or St. Athanasius voiced their opinions, second, St. Paul is entitled to his opinion regardless of the other opinions. And, guess what? St. Paul's is canonized scripture even by Protestant impaired notions.
Paul wrote X.. Then centuries later Jerome wrote Y. Therefore Paul did not write X. The logic is just blistering.
You’re bad......
There wasn't any that year. Shows the caliber of your sources.
But, yes, the Church did ban various mistranslations of the Bible done by heretics in order to teach albigensian heresies. There was a local council in 1242 in Tarragona. All praise be to God.
