The reason for this article is to determine if the worship/veneration given to Mary by the catholic church is justified from a Biblical perspective. This will be evaluated using the Biblical standard and not mans standard.
Apparently they keep folks locked in their closets...
ANGELS I mean.
:-)
I echo verga’s sentiment. That was helpful for me so thank you.
Perhaps an angular angel :-)
You’re welcome. Thank Voris for so often hitting the nail square on the head.
Would the below summarize the head of this nail which you write of?
We have plenty of respect for the Mary of Scripture.
We don’t believe all the extra nonsense taught about her by the Catholic church that has no Scriptural support.
And not believing unsubstantiated rumors about people does not equate to disrespecting them. On the contrary, it is out of respect that we believe about her only what it true, that which we know for sure as has been revealed to us by the Holy Spirit.
You are so correct.
See tagline.....
Makes you just want to go running right into the *loving* arms of the Catholic church, doesn’t it?
....”The saints are with me in my closet. They should be in yours, too, if you want your prayer to be effective”...
There are hundreds of prayers and passages about prayer in scripture, and NONE of them instruct prayers to the departed. The scriptures forbid attempting to contact them.....
.....there is not one verse of the scripture in the New Testament anywhere which authorized anybody to intercede with God after death.
The bible is specific that speaking to those who have departed the earth is forbidden...period. (Deut.18)
Read over some others’ posts to see that respect in action. I especially liked the word one of them used: frigid. You should be chiding these people but I’ll wait...
How about, my basement was never flooded until after my wife gave birth?" Different word, but which normally denotes a terminus and infers a change, while God normally describes notable aspects that are departures from the norm (age, excess toes, talking animals, metal floating, dead rising, miraculous births and transport, extended virginity, sinlessness, etc.
Sound doctrine is not that of pleading the extraordinary with only silence from Scripture to support it. But with Rome presuming deity, she presumes she can call things that are not as if they are.
Whatever is in your closet ain’t saints. Or any other dead person.
It’s demonic which is especially easy to detect as it takes the focus off Jesus, whom we are to look to as the Author and Perfecter of our faith.

They are works set up by Catholicism as its own works of its own law in lieu of the Law handed down by God at Mt Sinai.
Not police station tactics and you may have faith, but no one is obligated to take the word of an anonymous internet poster without verification.
What I can say is that the Talmud is the basis for all codes of Jewish law and is more quoted in rabbinic literature than the Torah itself. The Orthodox and, to a lesser extent, Conservative Judaism accept the Talmud as authoritative.
Orthodox Judaism also continues to stress the importance of Talmud study as THE central component of Yeshiva curriculum, in particular for those training to become Rabbis.
Reform and Reconstructionist Judaism does not do this to the same degree; they place more emphasis on the study of the Torah or the whole Tanakh.
I have not studied Talmud, and anything you (or other FReepers) can add to my education would be appreciated!
Good point. Special pleading is a fallacy. As I noted elsewhere, it can be used to shift the burden of proof from trying to prove a positive assertion to making the other guy try to prove a negative, which is notoriously difficult and mostly a waste of time. Prove that there isn’t a tooth fairy. Huh? Because sometimes, you know, that quarter under the pillow is unexplained (cue the spooky music). Special pleading against Scripture is a blank check to fill in with any doctrine you like. What could possibly go wrong?
Peace,
SR
Ok, that could be expected...
There is the State and political aspect of things.
Yet in response here, the focus did go directly right back to such as;
I can think of a few other, ah, groups who do very much the very same thing among themselves.
But then you of all people I am certain enough, recognized what the question I posed was fishing around to snag --- and to prompt --- reflection aimed now towards our own various ekklesia.
These groups (other than the Jews, whom were 'called out of Egypt') also do not seemingly wait all that much for God to fight for them, either --- yet it does seem to me that many of we Christians (myself included, to some extent) seem to expect more out of the Jews in Israel in this regard than for ourselves; having expectation & hope that if (should we dare say "when"?) they (Israel) were to throw their all upon God, and Him alone--- then He would act, and act mightily, fighting for them...
Yet knowing what I do of this "Old Testament" God, having encountered Him ---- I say "look out" because when heads begin to roll, if there is not the blood of the Passover lamb on the door lintels --- death will enter those doors also, into every household.
LOL!
Your reply was to this:
However, if you don't understand what "following Christ" means, Christianity apparently is not for you.As you have noticed, when Catholics have no defense for their un-Biblical beliefs they attack posters and make things up.
(The flack analogy is very fitting.)
Especially those strong in their Faith in Jesus who depend on the Holy Spirit rather than a organization or the edicts of men.
Carry on fellow Christian.
