Good point. Special pleading is a fallacy. As I noted elsewhere, it can be used to shift the burden of proof from trying to prove a positive assertion to making the other guy try to prove a negative, which is notoriously difficult and mostly a waste of time. Prove that there isn’t a tooth fairy. Huh? Because sometimes, you know, that quarter under the pillow is unexplained (cue the spooky music). Special pleading against Scripture is a blank check to fill in with any doctrine you like. What could possibly go wrong?
