The reason for this article is to determine if the worship/veneration given to Mary by the catholic church is justified from a Biblical perspective. This will be evaluated using the Biblical standard and not mans standard.
"The use of temples, and these dedicated to particular saints, and ornamented on occasions with branches of trees; incense, lamps, and candles; votive offerings on recovery from illness; holy water; asylums; holydays and seasons, use of calendars, processions, blessings on the fields; sacerdotal vestments, the tonsure, the ring in marriage, turning to the East, images at a later date, perhaps the ecclesiastical chant, and the Kyrie Eleison, are all of pagan origin, and sanctified by their adoption into the Church."[Cardinal Newman - Development of Christian Doctrine, pg 373]
But one can surely imagine the joy Satan gets from seeing the Catholic Church depict Christ as still dead on the cross.
For that matter, Mary was obviously so insignificant that no one even kept track of her or where she lived out her last days. No secular writer, no religious writer, no one.
“So THAT is why those seven CATHOLIC CHURCHES mentioned in the revelation to John are in ruins today!”
So you don’t believe Muslims invaded those lands and murdered Christians?
“Call no man Father...”
So what do you call your male parent?
“... the ring in marriage...”
You tell me.
I hear a tinkling bell...
“vlad, you and I see things differently. You and I are discussing two different understandings of who Jesus is.”
Yes, I have the orthodox understanding.
“Until you become born again of the Spirit, you simply cannot know where Im coming from in these posts on FR.”
Either way you slice it I’m born again in the Spirit. Where you’re “coming from” - based on what you write is a Protestant viewpoint. It’s well known and dates back to the 16th century. It has no connection with Christ, the Apostles, or an orthodox interpretation of scripture.
“Not being an RC, I well understand your implacable position as a defender on FR of all things Roman Catholic, regardless whether your explanations make sense or not.”
That’s not even being a logical statement.
“I also know your demonstrations of what you ascribe as truth has not always been compatible or in line with the Holy Bible except via your own (RCC) private interpretations...as is the case with all (Christian) cults.”
Actually everything I post is in line with an orthodox interpretation of scripture. I never rely on Protestant interpretations.
“Time for you and me to break it off on FR?”
Running away?
“I hear a tinkling bell...”
That must be the sound of you running out of time to answer a simple question. No wonder none of the Protestants bother to ask you questions. If you can’t answer that last question, you can’t be very helpful on anything else.
Either way you prove my point.
A lie perpetrated by the Catholic Church as daniel1212 has shown many times on these threads.
From your second link >>How can someone claim there can only be one priest in the New Covenant based on Heb. 7:22-25 and I Tim. 2:5, Jesus Christ, but then turn right around and claim all Christians are priests?<<
What a stupid comment. Jesus is not just a priest. Jesus is the High priest.
From your third link >>The Old Testament parallels today<<
The poor feller hasn't even figured out the difference between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant. No wonder he was duped into becoming a Catholic.
From your fourth link >>Presbyter is indeed the word meaning elder--it simply becomes priest through the translation into English.<<
Wrong again as shown by daniel1212. And then he goes on to try to justify calling them priests because according to him they perform the same type of function. Let's stick with what scripture says not some conjecture and make up stuff.
All that Catholic babble doesn't hold up to scripture and is either made up by the Catholic Church or a corruption of scripture as we have it in the Greek.
Um...................What?
There ya go again. Catholics just can't get passed Jesus death can they. Got news or ya. There would be no victory if Jesus didn't rise from the dead and ascend into heaven. You better get passed that dead Jesus on a cross.
Bowing to statues. You tell me.
I’ll show you where God commanded not to bow to statues if you show me where God commanded not to where wedding rings.
Please see post # 2,382
“...God commanded not to where wedding rings.”
I don’t have a problem with wearing or exchanging rings. It was someone else - gee, who was that? - who seemed to be troubled enough about rings to insist he/she doesn’t wear one now but refused to say whether or not he/she ever did.
“Please see post # 2,382”
In a thread that only goes up to post # 1497?
But I CAN show you where God commanded not to bow down to images. I CAN show where He commanded to destroy them not just “baptise” them.
