The reason for this article is to determine if the worship/veneration given to Mary by the catholic church is justified from a Biblical perspective. This will be evaluated using the Biblical standard and not mans standard.
Id be careful with the God-giver connotation.
That is what mothers do: they give children to the world. When the Cchild is divine, that is Whom Mary gave. This is not denying the fact that Jesus pre-existed Mary, if that is what you are worried about.
Besides, I am not telling you whom to venerate and how; you guys are. If you want to "be careful", well, I am not your pastor.
My Queen, My Mother, I offer myself entirely to thee.
And to show my devotion to thee,
I offer thee this day, my eyes,
my ears, my mouth, my heart,
my whole being without reserve.
Wherefore, good Mother, as I am thine own, keep me, guard me as thy property and possession.
Wow....the committment the catholic makes with this daily prayer....totally committing everything about themselves entirely to Mary. This leaves no room for Christ whatsoever.
Waiting for redefinition of entitrely.
For those who disagree with this just change the words of the prayer...where you see Mary insert Baal, Allah, Buddah, Zeus, Apollo...Satan.
As a believer in Christ..would you make that prayer to another "god"?
Contrast with the Bible....
Luke 10:27
And he answered, "YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF."
It is my hope and prayer that catholics see the deception that has been fostered with these false teachings regarding Mary.
Come to Christ today. He completely forgives all sins.
Praise is in the preceding verse, "Blessed is the womb that bore thee, and the paps that gave thee suck", and Jesus repeats it ("blessed") directing it to more people.
There are warnings about worship of idols. Mary and the saints are not idols but real people and we venerate them in full understanding that they are saints with Christ and because of Christ. We do not worship them. We worship Him to Whom we offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. It is not complicated.
Nothing in the teaching of the Holy Catholic Church contradicts the Holy Scripture. But the teaching of the Holy Church is the foundation of the Holy Scripture. The foundation is broader than the pinnacle because it includes the Holy Tradition that the Church received frm the Holy Ghost and continues to receive it.
contend earnestly for the faith once delivered to the saints. Jude 1:3)
You listen to the Protestant charlatans and believe them. Don't; they only know how to lie about the Holy Scripture.
the Paraclete, the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring all things to your mind, whatsoever I shall have said to you. (John 14:26)
Immaculate conception=Mary sinless
Romans 3:23=all have sinned
Next question please?
The ‘Morning Consecration to Mary,’ cited in post 1022, is very disturbing any way you look at it. As was pointed out, you cannot give yourself in your “entirety” to two different people. [Jesus spoke about this. It is impossible.] When you give yourself entirely to Mary, there is nothing left over for Jesus.
Correction. Instead of putting ‘entirety’ in quotes, the post should have used quotes for ‘entirely.’
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation, he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit he was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man...
Not even the fathers of the Nicene creed assumed.
I cited a C. S. Lewis quote in two posts above, but used a faulty [to say the least] source. Here is the same quote from a much better source:
C. S. Lewis, from The Weight of Glory
“It is a serious thing to live in a society of possible gods and goddesses, to remember that the dullest and most uninteresting person you talk to may one day be a creature which, if you saw it now, you would be strongly tempted to worship, or else a horror and a corruption such as you now meet, if at all, only in a nightmare. All day long we are, in some degree, helping each other to one or other of these destinations. It is in the light of these overwhelming possibilities, it is with the awe and the circumspection proper to them, that we should conduct all our dealings with one another, all friendships, all loves, all play, all politics.
There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal. Nations, cultures, arts, civilizationthese are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploitimmortal horrors or everlasting splendours. This does not mean that we are to be perpetually solemn. We must play. But our merriment must be of that kind (and it is, in fact, the merriest kind) which exists between people who have, from the outset, taken each other seriouslyno flippancy, no superiority, no presumption. And our charity must be a real and costly love, with deep feeling for the sins in spite of which we love the sinnerno mere tolerance or indulgence which parodies love as flippancy parodies merriment.”

“Did she give birth to Jesus? Not a complicated question.”
Ah, i see what you’re doing. You’re changing her name to Birther of Messiah. Clever.
revere - from Latin reverēri, from re- + verērī to fear, be in awe of
Catholics disagree with your misunderstanding. Mary was blessed by God and accepted the request by God to be the mother of Jesus as reported in Luke Chapter 1. Mary was full of God's grace, even before Baptism began.
26In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, 27to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgins name was Mary.l
28And coming to her, he said, Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you.m 29But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.
30Then the angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31n Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. 32o He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High,* and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, 33and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.p
34But Mary said to the angel, How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?* 35And the angel said to her in reply, The holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.q
Leo XIII has said Mary is at the highest summit in Heaven. He also said that the catholic church places ALL their hope in Mary.
Why shouldn't Mary be at the summit with he son Jesus? Why shouldn't the Catholic Church place all their hope in the Blessed Mother of God to help us? Mary is the Mother of the Church. That doesn't mean that the Church has made her a God. Why do you disrespect her so much? I feel that this disrespect is the work of Satan and as such is evil.
Perhaps you have heard about Fatima and Lourdes?
Is your attack on Mary part of your Church dogma or just personal?
I remind you of Matthew 16:19.
Not once in all of scripture is that shown or inferred as has been shown multiple times in this thread alone.
You don’t answer the question. It is one thing for a person to have a different opinion. It is something all together different to be rude and offensive.
As this has been a very long thread, allow me to remind you of the premise. The premise was an article which incorrectly attempted to “prove” Catholic doctrine and dogma related the Blessed Mother are unbiblical.
While that certainly is a valid topic of discussion, which honest people can hold different opinions, what I have observed is the venom, hostility, and insults from certain people. What makes them worse is cloaking this behavior in the excuse of “protecting” the Bible, or asserting some moral high ground.
Perhaps instead of assuming one’s opinions of another’s religion are facts, one should endeavor to actually learn from the primary source. Unfortunately, many non-Catholic commentators only study the often-flawed opinion of others, and never actually read what the Church teaches.
Let us use our intellects honestly. Let us endeavor to understand with honesty. Let us remain steadfast in the truth, and encourage one another. Should one disagree with another, do so with patience and kindness.
Somewhere in this country we have lost the ability to disagree without being disagreeable.
Go peddle crazy somewhere else. Don’t you ask friends to pray for you? Do you belong to a prayer circle?
...and is evidently more valuable.
All of who?
Because it gives to Mary what belongs to God.
Psalm 39:7 And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.
Psalm 71:5 For thou art my hope, O Lord GOD: thou art my trust from my youth.
1 John 3:3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
1 Timothy 4:10 for for this we both labour and are reproached, because we hope on the living God, who is Saviour of all men -- especially of those believing.
1 Corinthians 15:19 If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.
1 Peter 1:21 Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.
1 Thessalonians 1:3 We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Blessed does not equal veneration.
Blessed as given by Jesus Christ in the Gospels is this:
From Matthew 5 blessed is 'makarios' blessed; happy. From Luke 11:28 again blessed is 'makarios' blessed/happy.
Where you see veneration there is unknown. It is not there.
