"Christian unity" is one of those terms that stir up a whole spectrum of—sometimes emotional—opinions.
On the one hand, we know that Jesus prayed to the Father concerning future believers "that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you" (John 17:21a, NIV).
On the other hand, charismatics know it is almost pointless to discuss the gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 12, 14) with Baptists or most anyone else from a mainline denomination. And Protestants of just about any stripe get riled up when they hear Catholics talking about papal infallibility or their adoration of the Virgin Mary.
It's on this latter point that Rick Warren, senior pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, and successful author, has waded into a hornet's nest of controversy by telling a Catholic News Service interviewer that Protestants and Catholics "have far more in common than what divides us" and that Catholics do not "worship Mary like she's another god."
Regarding Warren's view that Catholics do not worship Mary, Matt Slick, writing on the website of the Christian Apologetics & Research Ministry, goes into great detail with material from Roman Catholic sources that say Mary is "the all holy one," is to be prayed to, worshipped, that she "brings us the gifts of eternal life" and she "made atonement for the sins of man."
If that's not putting her in the place of Christ as a god-like figure to be worshipped, then what is it?
"We believe in Trinity, the Bible, the resurrection, and that salvation is through Jesus Christ. These are the big issues," Warren says. "But the most important thing is if you love Jesus, we're on the same team."
To Warren's point about being on the same team, Slick.....

Did or did not the Catholic church change the Holy Spirit inspired title of Mary as *mother of Jesus* to *mother of GOD*?
*mother of GOD* does not say the same thing as *mother of Jesus*.
Mother of God says that God has a mother as opposed to JESUS having a mother.
It focuses on Mary, implies that she gave birth to deity, and does not make reference to Jesus except indirectly, making an explanation of what is meant to prevent confusion as essential.
Sticking with *mother of Jesus* does not lead to the complications, need for explanation, interpretation, or misunderstanding that calling her *mother of God* can most certainly lead to.
It correctly identifies her as the woman who gave birth to Jesus, God with Us, not GOD Himself.
And that is the reason for sticking to *mother of JESUS* and ditching *mother of GOD*.

not really, it means that you have to have a very strong faith and belief in what the bible teaches to be a Catholic....it isn't always real easy to toe the mark. Many are called and few are chosen seems to indicate that even if you are educated in the Catholic church, you may be so worldly oriented that you would decide to go your own way and do your own thing. Luther was a priest and he couldn't make it and there was Zwingley, Calvin, Wesley brothers, Simons, Knox, Smyth, Campbells, ad infinitum who thought that they were more adept at founding true Christianity than was Christ.....O.K., I guess but I'll stick with the original, unabridged edition..Catholicism.

I don’t see CB telling anyone what they believe about Mary.
What is being addressed is what is being SAID with the titles given her.
It is focusing on the meanings of the words and the message they convey. They in no way represent any of the plethora of things you have accused CB of.
As usual, when all else fails, attack the messenger.
If He is one person, then saying that Mary is mother of GOD says that Mary if the mother of deity.

my Douay version states Luke 1:28 and the angel being come in said unto her: hail full of grace, the Lord is with thee,blessed art thou among women. Translated 1582. I have no idea of what the kjv says about anything and I'll take the translation from the Vulgate as pretty much the truth.
Douay and the Aramaic Bible in Plain English are the only two major translations that stick with "full of grace".
NASB is considered to be the most literal of all the translations and it translates the words in question as "favored one".
In either case, the greek does not lend itself to the catholic position that Mary was free from sin at her birth.
Nor does the rest of the Bible for that matter....and the catholic encyclopedia online admits that as does Nick Hardesty...

But how is anyone to know? Unless it's specified who Mary is the mother of, then it could mean any of them or all of them.
It's too vague and too easily leads into error.
Saying *mother of Jesus* as the HOLY SPIRIT did in the Scripture HE inspired, leaves no room for that kind of confusion.
Mary is all powerful with her Son???

absolutely we do, and for 2,014 years we've probably had a few more that didn't even make your list. With the average tenure of a Pope(usually older men) being ....say 10 or so years, there have been 266 popes. Your redundant list covers a few people who didn't do a real good job...We've had more than a few presidents that didn't do so well either. Catholics don't give up on Christ's church because a human being didn't do well leading it, Americans don't move out of the country because of a few bad leaders. On the other hand, none of the so called failed Popes tried to undermine what the Catholic church stood for, none of them erred by teaching false dogma, none of the caused people to lose their souls by distracting them from Christ's teachings. In fact Christ promised His church that it could never happen....I will be with you until the end of time pretty much covers the meaning of forever...

Because none of what they hold of *sacred tradition* is found in Scripture. So they have to go beyond Scripture to support their doctrines.
Shhhhhhh....so was Christ until He rose, under His own power from the dead, and then, again with His power, He took His mother with Him into Heaven.....How hard could that be??? Catholics actually believe that He was God...He could and did change bread into His Body and Wine into His Blood....Protestants don't believe that He could do that and they don't believe that He had the power to assume Mary into Heaven....kind of restrictive don't you think??
