Archbishop Cupich Says Yes to Communion for Pro-Abortion Politicians

"...On Sunday’s edition of Face the Nation, recently installed Archbishop Blasé Cupich demonstrated that Chicago is indeed being introduced to a new style of episcopal leadership. This was nowhere more evident than the archbishop’s response to host Norah O’Donnell’s question regarding pro-abortion politicians and the reception of Communion:

O’DONNELL: So, when you say we cannot politicize the communion rail, you would give communion to politicians, for instance, who support abortion rights.

CUPICH: I would not use the Eucharist or as they call it the communion rail as the place to have those discussions or way in which people would be either excluded from the life of the church. The Eucharist is an opportunity of grace and conversion. It’s also a time of forgiveness of sins. So my hope would be that that grace would be instrumental in bringing people to the truth.

In other words, those who persist in mortal sin and public scandal through their continued political support of abortion should still receive the Eucharist.

Social Clubs like the Elks, Eagles, Odd Fellows etc have survived with diminished attraction. Perhaps the Catholic Church can make the transition? Bingo, Fish Fries, lots of things to hold it together while it drops the cumbersome moral stuff.

What is to be done when the entire faculty of a university math department is discovered not to know their times tables?

This is a full-on, naked-in-the-street endorsement of MORTAL SIN by a Catholic archbishop. It is a mortal sin to give Communion to certain people: those who are described in Canon 915 as “obstinately persisting in manifest grave sin.”

Cupich either does not believe that obstinate promotion of abortion is sinful, or he does not believe in the Eucharist. Or both.

Since when do we receive grace from the Eucharist while in mortal sin? I am so sick of the pseudo Catholics in the hierarchy.

Cupich implies that Communion forgives MORTAL SIN. (Because the sins in question—support of abortion—are mortal sins.)

This is heresy. Communion forgives VENIAL SIN only.

The new Archbishop of Chicago is a heretic. Plain and simple.

He is also morally corrupt. He sells the Eucharist in exchange for government money, and to preserve his personal connection with rich and powerful people—the pro-abortion elites in government and business.

He is standing in the street, naked, declaring: “Look at me! I am a heretic! I sell the Eucharist!” And who is going to lift a finger? NO ONE. Because the Pope and almost all bishops are men just like him.

The worst of it is that when Catholics use this scandal as an excuse to leave the Church, and when anti-Catholics use it to bash the Church, there can be no effective answer to them. Of course, there are the saints of history. There are the great theologians of history. But when the CURRENT bishops of the Church stand in the street fornicating, raping, and masturbating, who is going to pay attention to anything else?

Add his name to the list.

"The Archbishop of New York says that the issue of pro-abortion Catholic politicians committing sacrilege, not to mention the sacrilege being participated in by those giving them Holy Communion, is “in the past.” That’s such an arrogant statement it takes your breath away."

Amen! How does any real Catholic convert others to the true Catholic Faith when the so-called "Catholic" hierarchy doesn't even believe it or teach it?

I am stunned. This disturbs me on a very personal level. How am I supposed to help people who want answers for the Catholic faith? My bishops speak out of both sides of their mouths.

Unless the Pope straightens up on doctrine a bit and stops imposing the Novus Ordo, the Orthodox churches will never come back in. There are two things they don’t want: heterodox doctrine and changes to their liturgy (to make it Vatican II compliant).

Admit the truth, that your bishops speak out of both sides of their mouths (just like Judas). The fact that they choose to spit on the Faith of Our Fathers will never diminish its truth and beauty.

He also shows a total ignorance (like his boss) of the sacrament of the Eucharist. He said he will not deny communion to pro-abort politicians in direct violation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. And if you listen real close to his ridiculous justification for this sin against God he says Holy Communion is a time for forgiveness of sins! What blasphamy! You are not to be in a state of sin when you receive the precious blood and body of our Lord Jesus Christ. How in the world did this character ever become a Catholic priest being so ignorant of the faith.

Thank God this heretic is no longer in Spokane. I knew he was a big time liberal when he was in Spokane and knew he would not stand up for pro-life causes, but he never gave a sit-down interview where he showed his total ignorance of the Catholic Faith. Just call him Francis Jr. What a disgrace to the Catholic Church.
