Good points. The Dark Forces prevalent in the Catholic Church has been glossed over, forgotten and in some cases history revised to minimize their involvement in such heinous acts.

I've read that very line--- "Catholics don't read the Bible" --- at least 20 times in this very forum.

This is, howeer, an atypical environment. I know that.

I don't think the author is a theatrical wuss. But wuss' up with that?

Good post.
I find it depressing for Christians on FR to burn up bandwith on fine points of doctrine while Muslims plot our deaths.

It seems the idea of faith and morals, which the Popes cannot be in error on, they determined killing children in the most cruel of ways was the moral thing to do. There seems to be an inconsistency with the teachings of Jesus.

Where does Jesus teach what you mentioned?

Do you propose that Jesus taught or believed children should be killed in the most cruel way?

What you said touches me. I am indeed a “church-going” Catholic but I don’t thnk my life matches the sanctity and faith of my mother’s. If I better followed her example, I would be a better person. She really exemplified the gentle personalism of traditional Catholicism.

Exactly my point. I have read
"But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and said to them, "Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these."
Nowhere have I read "burn the little children unto me."

The inconsistency was what the Popes were doing and what Jesus taught. I believe that was the point of the original poster. It may not have been clearly stated though.

Having a great pastor is indeed a great help. My husband and I were talking about this. When we first came here, our pastor was Fr,. Dominic Tamburello, a Dominican. Holy and humble. Highly intelligent, prayerful, sensitive, reasonable, simple in the way "profound" is simple.

That was 26 years ago, and we've had a run of pastors since then tha weren't, well, quite so stellar. BUt you love the Lord, and you try to help, and consent to be helped by, other imperfect and even stained and cracked specimens. Dealing with your own limitations in prayer, or asking God to "deal" with you AND your pastor.

We've got another really good 'un now, Fr. Pete, who balances mountains gracefuly on his head (that's a metaphor, son) and treats people right. He fasts for me sometimes because I'm not very good at it. (How's that for solidarity!) Loves Jesus, sings tolerably well.

It's all good.

Well there’s a person who studied religion rather than scripture.

...my respect for Protestants/Evangelicals/Baptists/Anabaptsts/Non-denoms as a whole. BASIC. Brothers And Sisters In Christ.

Since you have posted this idea several times and no one has rebutted it...

Your attending one church and my going to the same church does not make you and me brother and sister in Christ.

It all depends on whether each of us has a personal continuing relationship with Almighty God the Father through repentance of our sins and faith in and following of the one true and only Lord Jesus Christ, not trying to sneak in some alternate door that bypasses the One True Door which is the necessity of being born again of the Spirit of God (Who points ONLY to Jesus Christ as Lord) and Who leads us into correct comprehension of the Truth, the living breathing Word of God. (He's alive right now.)

Thanks for reading.

Galatians 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

When you find out where they prove that the apostles taught the assumption of Mary let us know will you. Surely you wouldn't want to follow someone Paul says should be considered accursed.

Resettozero, I like civil discussions with different POV's too, animated by love.

I've been thinking lately of how Scripture says "This is how they will know you are Christians, if you love one another." How far short we fall from that!! ((Darting eyes, maniacal laugh))

Let's make a start, hey?

“I’m assuming this post is here to help begin a healthy dialogue about Catholicism versus Christianity?”

No, since Catholicism is Christianity there is no “versus” there.

>>God is the only way... <<

Then study scripture. Not Catholicism or Protestantism.

So true. A good thing to think of, as we come to walk with Him more closely.

You know the very post which destroyed our ability to communicate with honesty.

“Instead of “preaching” to non Christians, you post threads to tell evangelicals how they need to be catholics. Why not preach to pagans?”

Why not preach to both Evangelicals and Pagans since both are in error?

"death to the protestant infidels, I guess"

That's your statement. Nobody else said that.

“Two utterly untrue statements. The Ethiopian Orthodox Church has been in existence since before Catholicism was a gleam in universalists eyes.”

False. The Ethiopian Church only became its own entity with the split with the Catholic Church when the non-Chalcedonian churches left. Also, how many Ethiopian parishes were there in Italy, France, Greece, Lebanon, wherever? NONE. Until one century ago there were none anywhere in the world really except for Ethiopia.

“Also being how as Christ and the Apostles were Jews, they still seem to be in business in one faction or another.”

So you’re saying Jews can be saved without Christ?
