(Above links derived from here) ===> ("How Many Protestant Denominations Are There?")
⛪⛪⛪⛪⛪⛪⛪⛪⛪⛪
There are many, many more Protestant denominations out there, not just those reflected in the links above. How many? Well, nobody really knows for sure exactly how many Protestant denominations exist at any given point in time, because after you get done counting the first forty or fifty thousand, several thousand more new ones pop up here and there all over the place, like popping pop corn! :-)
We Catholics love all our Protestant brothers and sisters (no matter how many denominations or "non-denominations" they belong to), and we simply want to share the fullness of the truth with them, so that they can find the precious jewel (the "pearl of great price") that we have already found (by the Grace of God). With that in mind, the following song is dedicated to all our beloved Protestant brothers and sisters, and their ever-increasing number of distinct and ever-changing denominations with contradictory, mutually-exclusive, incompatible teachings. (And, no, that is not a bunch of cardinals singing that song!)
☺
(Song -- "Bless 'em All!")
(This song is a tribute to all our beloved Protestant brothers and sisters, no matter what denomination -- or "non-denomination" -- they are currently in.)
"I appeal to you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree and that there be no dissensions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment." (1 Corinthians 1:10)
“I would argue that Charles Wesley preached (very eloquantly) through his hymns (some of which we sing in the Catholic Church)...”
Uh oh, by your own logic, that makes the Catholics followers of Wesley, and you have therefore indicted your own church with your original post.
Boogieman, I believe you have misinterpreted Heart-rest’s post. She is, in my view & being a Protestant, not attacking Protestants, but pushing the forth the idea that Catholics and Protestants are all united with, in, and under Jesus Christ. Our faith and salvation come from only Him. Please re-read and consider; also take to heart the “Bless ‘Em All” song, for that is a song of unity. And I sang it in the Army.
Good analogy.
and I didn’t use quotes
It is obvious they think that the “church” is collectively infallible.
If the only way to heaven is through Jesus, praying to anyone else or even asking them to pray to you is pointless. Your prayer went THROUGH Jesus to reach them, if they are up there, so asking them to pray to Jesus for you is silly.
And I have always found them pertinent and a welcome addition to the discussion.
lol
Good to see ya...Come back again, when you can't stay so long...
It does nothing to further the cause of Christ or bring glory to God, which is what we are supposed to be doing. Nor does it do anything to advance the cause of conservatism, which is what I thought this site was for.
It certainly does bring glory to God...You for some reason neglected to note that one side constantly glorifies God by posting scripture...
Psa 119:98 Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me.
Psa 119:99 I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.
Psa 119:100 I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.
Psa 119:101 I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word.
Psa 119:102 I have not departed from thy judgments: for thou hast taught me.
Psa 119:103 How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
Psa 119:104 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.
Psa 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Psa 119:130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
Eph 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
Eph 4:12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Eph 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
Eph 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
Eph 4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
Psa 119:9 Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.
We are instructed to pass on the written words of God...
2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Ti 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
2Ti_4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
So you have one side trying to glorify it's religion, Mary, popes, Saints, Angels while condemning the other side which glorifies God, Jesus, the words of God and the instructions of God...
And all that bothers you...And you think that bothers God...
Psa 62:1 To the chief Musician, to Jeduthun, A Psalm of David. Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.
Not Mary...
Psa 62:2 He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.
Peter ain't the rock...Sorry guys...
Psa 62:3 How long will ye imagine mischief against a man? ye shall be slain all of you: as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence.
Psa 62:4 They only consult to cast him down from his excellency: they delight in lies: they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah.
Would that be the proven lies of them claiming they don't pray to Mary and Saints and Angels???
Psa 62:5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.
Psa 62:6 He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.
Again, no Peter rock...
Psa 62:7 In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
Psa 62:8 Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.
What??? Don't pour your heart out to Mary, or St. Christopher???
Psa_119:16 I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.
That one would think there is “no difference” between one and an apostle would go a long way to explaining the nature of Protestantism and Protesters; we see how quickly this devolves into confusion and heresy.
“She is, in my view & being a Protestant, not attacking Protestants, but pushing the forth the idea that Catholics and Protestants are all united with, in, and under Jesus Christ.”
I am not buying it, as she is pushing the same attack that we have seen constantly, and increasingly in recent months, from the usual suspects around here. It’s always used to attack protestants as illegitimate churches, so why should I interpret its use here as some kind of backhanded statement of Christian unity?
Cripplecreek replied: Exactly. As far as Im concerned, anyone who tries to stir trouble between Protestants and Catholics is no friend of Christianity.
GreyFriar says: AMEN!
Tired&Retired says: Hallelujah
A house divided against itself cannot stand. We are all one. Just as Peter and Paul had to resolve their differences about circumcision and other issues, so do we.
I’m currently reading and studying “Studies in the Spirituality of Jesuits” “Toward a Theological Evaluation of Communal Discernment”, by Ladislas Orsy SJ. Volume V, No. 5 October 1973. It outlines Ignatius methods of decision making in community. Best writing I have found on Biblical decision making. Specifically it outlines the benefits of group decision making where all are God focused for inspiration.
If you gave me all the church leaders of the various faiths for a week in a focused resolution group I feel they would come to consensus.
For me, it’s about understanding the anatomy & physiology of the human soul. When you understand and experience these topics, all the different theories and philosophies of the anatomy & physiology of the human soul we recognize as religions all make sense without discounting the fundamentals of any of them.
As Einstein said, “A problem is not solved at the level of consciousness at which it was created.” Prayer is the tool used to raise our consciousness to a higher level where we can find the solutions to our differences of opinion.
Many years ago I spent a week with the Zen Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh. There was a Methodist minister who lived near me that joined in the week long study. At the end of the week the minister made a statement that was like a baseball bat to the side of my head. He stated “After all my years at the pulpit teaching Christianity, I can honestly say that I never fully understood it until now when I am looking at Christianity from a Buddhist perspective.”
Do not criticize others until you examine your own beliefs from their perspective, and even then, don’t criticize them.
Thank you.
Well...there’s likely plenty of Protestant Denominations...no different than all the various catholic denominations...though they of course never call them that.
Who really thinks playing “the numbers game” on denominations in any church organization is significant? Jesus has believers in all denominations who follow Him....the real question is who are true believers and who are wolves.
What I find very interesting is that here we have a thread which purpose is to apparently sow disunity and discord, and to invalidate Protestantism by focusing on denominational labels, and the *Protestants* here on this board are banding together, showing their unity IN CHRIST, regardless of denominational affiliation.
Now, I’m going to take a guess that not everyone on the RF who is not Catholic attends the same denomination. It simply isn’t possible. I for one, am not aware of the denominational affiliation of more than a couple non-Catholics on FR, and even the ones I am closest to, I have no idea where they worship.
And you know what?
IT DOESN’T MATTER!!!!!!
This thread is proving the very thing it attempted to disprove.
Oh?
Two words.
Eastern Orthodox
Alex, based upon your list, I am a ‘Campbellite.’ Member of the Barton Stone (Methodist) & Alexander Campbell (Presbyterian) founded Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). They both rebelled against the concept of “closed communion” for they saw and believed that Jesus offers communion and it is not for a denomination to make its own rules on whom among believers in Christ Jesus would be allowed to take communion.
And from that idea of unity, for they talked of all believers, I’ve been oriented toward what unites us as Christians versus, what divides us. Of course, 4 years attending a Catholic Men’s College helped me with the ‘other side.’
Protestants like Francis because he acts more protestant than Catholic and talks a lot about homosexual “gifts” and no one needing to convert. Imagine a pope that is loved by liberal Catholics and adored by all protestants, and despised by real Catholics.
