The city of Houston has issued subpoenas demanding a group of pastors turn over any sermons dealing with homosexuality, gender identity or Annise Parker, the city’s first openly lesbian mayor. And those ministers who fail to comply could be held in contempt of court.

“The city’s subpoena of sermons and other pastoral communications is both needless and unprecedented,” Alliance Defending Freedom attorney Christina Holcomb said in a statement. “The city council and its attorneys are engaging in an inquisition designed to stifle any critique of its actions.”

A lot of churches put their sermons online these days, they can listen at their leisure in City Hall

Can we email the sermons?

Can we just make up some sermons out of whole cloth? Can we just make up a church too?

Let us send them a sermon so extreme hostile to the city government from top to bottom that they will respond in some way.

The left is pushing a little too hard for their own good.

She is living in sin and wants to force our approval and acceptance. I will never accepting or approve of her immoral lifestyle.

That’s one wide load. Cyclists that large should pay road taxes for wear and tear, just like big rigs.

I guess just reading the relevant Bible verses could get churches in BIG trouble!

Try Romans 1:28-32 and pay really good attention to the last few words. Also, Leviticus 18:22-25.

Well, if the pastors and their congregations had any nads to stand up to the Nazi Bitch they would tell her to munch rug and choke on the hairball. Some might stand up to this religious oppression, but most probably won’t. Maybe the “esteemed” governor of Texas will sic the state AG on her but again I’m not convinced.

Satire, right? New guidelines say it must say “satire” in the title. Right? Right?

That would be my idea. I’d like to see them try to prosecute everyone in the country. This has to end. The reign of the Fourth Reich must be opposed.

How can you have a subpoena without suspicion of a crime? What judge issued this subpoena?

In litigation, parties subpoena materials from third-parties all the time. All you need to show (in many jurisdictions, not sure a it Texas) is that the materials sought bear some relevance to the subject matter of the litigation. No suspicion of a crime needed, and the subpoena is usually issued by the private litigant, not a judge.

Nope it’s true. Michael Berry talked about the issue on his radio program today. He used to be on the City Council and has no use for Denise Porker, the gay overweight mayor. Apparently this issue is being pushed by the City Attorney and doesn’t involve Black ministers, only the white ones.

The group trying to get the issue on the ballot collected 55,000 signatures, way more than the 15,000 needed and the results were certified by the appropriate city manager. Big expensive mistake on the City’s part. Glad I moved to the suburbs several years ago.
