I doubt you'd find Anyone posting here that disagrees with your conclusion.
What we are fussing over is HOW do we get to Him, what is necessary to DO, and what is not.
I, too, regret these things; but not ALL of them.
Once in a while a 2*4 has to be used to get someones attention.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
(Anyone notice that TRADITION was NOT mentioned?)
Tradition begats tradition.
You're right.
OTOH, Scripture is not mentioned here:
"Go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and teaching them everything I have commanded you. Behold, I am with you even to the end of the age." --JesusOr here:
"Listen to the church... If he won't listen to the church, treat him as a pagan or tax collector." --Jesus
So can we then dismiss the value of Scripture?
Catholics uphold the teaching authority of the Church, as Jesus commands, the inspired nature of Scripture, and the value of oral tradition as mentioned by St. Paul.
Protestants follow Luther's tradition of "the Bible ALONE as the sole rule of faith," which, ironically, is not found in Scripture.
No, 2 Timothy 3:16-17 does not even come close to saying that Scripture is the SOLE rule of faith. Anyone who believes that is reading Luther's tradition into Scripture.
