Why would intelligent, successful people give up their careers, alienate their friends, and cause havoc in their families...to become Catholic? Indeed, why would anyone become Catholic?
As an evangelist and author who recently threw my own life into some turmoil by deciding to enter the Catholic Church, I've faced this question a lot lately. That is one reason I decided to make this documentary; it's part of my attempt to try to explain to those closest to me why I would do such a crazy thing.
Convinced isn't just about me, though. The film is built around interviews with some of the most articulate and compelling Catholic converts in our culture today, including Scott Hahn, Francis Beckwith, Taylor Marshall, Holly Ordway, Abby Johnson, Jeff Cavins, Devin Rose, Matthew Leonard, Mark Regnerus, Jason Stellman, John Bergsma, Christian Smith, Kevin Vost, David Currie, Richard Cole, and Kenneth Howell. It also contains special appearances by experts in the field of conversion such as Patrick Madrid and Donald Asci.
Ultimately, this is a story about finding truth, beauty, and fulfillment in an unexpected place, and then sacrificing to grab on to it. I think it will entertain and inspire you, and perhaps even give you a fresh perspective on an old faith.

How DARE you point out Cherry picking!!
You guys CONTINUALLY want to take ONE example and then try to apply it across the board!
You should!
They are at least 90% accurate!
Unruliness among the faithful??
That 'poor catechism' will bite you every time!
Kennedy, Palosi, diddling priests. Yep!
I’m amazed at the SILENCE when Catholics are asked, begged and pleaded with to PLEASE show us just what TRADITIONS they have that are NEEDED for Salvation.
There’s that claim that praying the rosary to Mary will get you time off out of purgatory for good behavior so they’ve got that going for them.
You're right.
OTOH, Scripture is not mentioned here:
"Go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and teaching them everything I have commanded you. Behold, I am with you even to the end of the age." --JesusOr here:
"Listen to the church... If he won't listen to the church, treat him as a pagan or tax collector." --Jesus
So can we then dismiss the value of Scripture?
Catholics uphold the teaching authority of the Church, as Jesus commands, the inspired nature of Scripture, and the value of oral tradition as mentioned by St. Paul.
Protestants follow Luther's tradition of "the Bible ALONE as the sole rule of faith," which, ironically, is not found in Scripture.
No, 2 Timothy 3:16-17 does not even come close to saying that Scripture is the SOLE rule of faith. Anyone who believes that is reading Luther's tradition into Scripture.
Ever been in a grocery store when a little brat is screaming and carryin’ on for attention?
You got a “Fractal” so they’ve got no actual response to what you posted...
Please show us when this LATER thing occurred.
Can you?
Please show an infallible source proving that the traditions of today’s Catholic Church are the same traditions taught by the apostles.
Haven't you been corrected before about taking this verse out of context?
A rebuke comes next...
Matthew 18:15-17Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition (DRA)
15 But if thy brother shall offend against thee, go, and rebuke him between thee and him alone. If he shall hear thee, thou shalt gain thy brother. 16 And if he will not hear thee, take with thee one or two more: that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may stand. 17 And if he will not hear them: tell the church. And if he will not hear the church, let him be to thee as the heathen and publican. |
Please; Tom.
Enlighten we blind folks as to what TRADITIONS are NEEDED in addition to what the Bible (Thanks Catholic Church!) has already plainly stated.
That’s also Eastern Catholic terminology. You know, Greek...
Interesting that it's the Catholic Church that admits it incorporates pagan practices isn't it?
I know he is an author but I was reading a western by Willam W.Johnstone and one of his Last Mountain Man books. I really enjoy them on my iPad. He was one of the best writers around. He died in 2004. He also wrote the Out of the Ashes series among others. If you have not read any, do so. J.A. took over when Bill died. There is a new book out, Stand your Ground. Very interesting.
