Why would anyone become Catholic?

Why would intelligent, successful people give up their careers, alienate their friends, and cause havoc in their families...to become Catholic? Indeed, why would anyone become Catholic?

As an evangelist and author who recently threw my own life into some turmoil by deciding to enter the Catholic Church, I've faced this question a lot lately. That is one reason I decided to make this documentary; it's part of my attempt to try to explain to those closest to me why I would do such a crazy thing.

Convinced isn't just about me, though. The film is built around interviews with some of the most articulate and compelling Catholic converts in our culture today, including Scott Hahn, Francis Beckwith, Taylor Marshall, Holly Ordway, Abby Johnson, Jeff Cavins, Devin Rose, Matthew Leonard, Mark Regnerus, Jason Stellman, John Bergsma, Christian Smith, Kevin Vost, David Currie, Richard Cole, and Kenneth Howell. It also contains special appearances by experts in the field of conversion such as Patrick Madrid and Donald Asci.

Ultimately, this is a story about finding truth, beauty, and fulfillment in an unexpected place, and then sacrificing to grab on to it. I think it will entertain and inspire you, and perhaps even give you a fresh perspective on an old faith.

Please don’t accuse me of deceiving you.

I won't; I'm merely pointing out that, as a genuine Christian, it is required that you not practice deception with me to conceal an affiliation, which Moslems allow themselves. You can choose to remain silent and secret; I'm still left with only three visible and honest choices. The remainder are historic Protestants, descendants of Protestants (Evangelicals, etc), and cults.

I told the truth honestly and openly with no deceit whatsoever. Your lack of understanding of what ekklesia means is not my responsibility.

Please find “denomination” or the need to identify with one in scripture. I can only find the ekklesia.

Please find "last name" or the need to identify with one in scripture. I can only find first names, or "son of" with references to other first names. Do you abstain from last names because they are not in scripture ?

I see that, and that you declined to answer my questions, which is your right and privilege. I'm still left with only three candidates.

I take it you couldn’t fond it. I would also wonder what last names have to do with issues of our salvation or serving God. Surely that wasn’t a strawman was it?

>>I'm still left with only three candidates.<<

I suppose we are each left to our limitations. I hope one day you can overcome.

Do Catholics so blindly follow they don't think?

That becomes more and more apparent with each successive post.

It amazes me what they will say to dodge the truth.

So, supposedly, the thousands of various protestant denominations, most of which interpret them differently than you do.

And you know that how?

So, supposedly, the thousands of various protestant denominations, most of which interpret them differently than you do.

But being a Christian is easy and Jesus told us so.

Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

John 8:31-32 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Romans 8:14-15 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”

Bondage to rules and regulations is not easy. I know that Catholicism is hard. That's why it's not of God.

Jesus came to set us free, not to put us into bondage.

And gee whiz I thought it was only repentance, obedience and accepting Eternal Life through Jesus Christ. I hope all of those people in the Middle East that are being martyred come to the realization that God has a ‘wonderful plan for them’.

Yes, I hope you overcome too. Let me know if you find a genuine church where you can worship.

I'm not looking for a church nor will I. I worship alone and with other members of the ekkkesia, those called out by God as His chosen.

Matthew 18:20 For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

We don't need to go TO a church, we ARE the church, the genuine body of Christ.

oh for Heavens sake....He didn't set us free to ignore the church that He founded and everyone do it their own way and since the 1600's, that's the way a lot of people see it. See what happens when you don't follow h His established rules????

I'm stunned. Do you realize that you are not questioning my words? You are questioning the words of the Holy Spirit. James 1:13 was written by James who was inspired by the Holy Spirit to write them. Those were not my words. If you have a disagreement with the Holy Spirit I would suggest you address that disagreement with Him.

God didn't put a denomination in charge over His people to put them into bondage again.

Abraham believed God and his faith was credited to him as righteousness.

That was before the Law and before the church.

If Catholics ever came to realize that man are made right with God by faith, they'd come to realize the bondage that the works based religion of Catholicism puts men in with absolutely NO guarantee of heaven at the end of it all.

What a pathetic, pointless existence, all that striving and working for what? No hope of anything.

Do not attribute a denominational membership to any Freeper who does not answer your question. That is also “making it personal.”
