Why would intelligent, successful people give up their careers, alienate their friends, and cause havoc in their families...to become Catholic? Indeed, why would anyone become Catholic?
As an evangelist and author who recently threw my own life into some turmoil by deciding to enter the Catholic Church, I've faced this question a lot lately. That is one reason I decided to make this documentary; it's part of my attempt to try to explain to those closest to me why I would do such a crazy thing.
Convinced isn't just about me, though. The film is built around interviews with some of the most articulate and compelling Catholic converts in our culture today, including Scott Hahn, Francis Beckwith, Taylor Marshall, Holly Ordway, Abby Johnson, Jeff Cavins, Devin Rose, Matthew Leonard, Mark Regnerus, Jason Stellman, John Bergsma, Christian Smith, Kevin Vost, David Currie, Richard Cole, and Kenneth Howell. It also contains special appearances by experts in the field of conversion such as Patrick Madrid and Donald Asci.
Ultimately, this is a story about finding truth, beauty, and fulfillment in an unexpected place, and then sacrificing to grab on to it. I think it will entertain and inspire you, and perhaps even give you a fresh perspective on an old faith.

Hey we have it in writing. Is anyone laying odds on how long it takes him to say something to either of us.
My scripture references are Bible.
But we'll play it your way. What was the foundation of the apostles and the prophets? That foundation has to be something. What is the "having been built upon the foundation....." What is that foundation??
It seems to me you'd like another revised edition, that you just cannot accept the Word as given, that they are the foundation. Think Hebrews, think about the great cloud of witnesses; now jump to Matthew and think about twelve thrones, then to Revelation and twenty four thrones. And don't forget And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.
of course they were Jews....until they became followers of Christ and then they were Christians....and the first Christians became referred to as Catholic or universal because they had been charged to go forth and teach all nations....see how it all fits together??
Deuteronomy 12:30 Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise. 31 Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God:
But the Catholic Church doesn't care what God says. They say:
The use of temples, and these dedicated to particular saints, and ornamented on occasions with branches of trees; incense, lamps, and candles; votive offerings on recovery from illness; holy water; asylums; holydays and seasons, use of calendars, processions, blessings on the fields; sacerdotal vestments, the tonsure, the ring in marriage, turning to the East, images at a later date, perhaps the ecclesiastical chant, and the Kyrie Eleison, are all of pagan origin, and sanctified by their adoption into the Church.[Cardinal Newman - Development of Christian Doctrine, pg 373]
The Catholic Church has directly contradicted God's word so cannot possibly be the true "church".
That's a post of desperation if I ever saw one!!!!
Pretend that there were Calvinists before Calvin and Lutherans before Luther?????
FOTFLOL!!!!!!!
Did it EVER occur to a Catholic that the reason Calvin and Luther came to the conclusions they did was because they were SCRIPTURAL conclusions?
I wouldn't expect that because then Catholics would be forced to admit that their church is wrong and the reformers were correct and no way that's happening without the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit.
then how is He different from anyone else??
No, I see how it was totally perverted by the Roman Catholic pagan cult.
Nope, that poster is 100% right. Why don’t you back up what you say instead of just saying , “you are wrong.”. Sounds like a kid.
The fruit of repentance comes from within, not without.
A priest imposing a penance on a believer in exchange for remission of sins, is wages due, not true change of heart due to repentance.
God's required satisfaction occurred at the cross and was satisfied when Jesus said, "It is FINISHED".
God does NOT demand an accounting of sin which He has forgiven and has been paid for by the death of Jesus.
Whether the lurkers, the non-posters watching this thread, are convinced one way or another, I contend the Christians (believers and followers of only the Lord Jesus Christ) have made a sincere effort to present our testimony of the truth these past few days.
There are believers in Jesus Christ, and there are those who pretend to defend Christ in Spirit and in truth. Some of the latter are worthless unfruitful branches of the Vine that hinder and inhibit fruitfulness of the Vine.
Known by their fruit.
I think someone needs a bigger God.
The Catholic God created the entire Universe ex nihilo (Out of nothing).
Sounds like God "doing everything" to me.God can't do everything and any argument based on that fallacious reasoning is doomed to failure before it even gets off the ground.
Please keep talking!
I am more than willing. You have declined to accept my offer. That is all on you. As I have said to you 4 times previously: I am not going to give prots a springboard for rants, tantrums and hissy fits.
I agree.
Partially correct. I was born, baptized, and raised a Catholic. However, I did not go off into other denominations or sects.
I found forgiveness through Christ and was born again.
Religious affiliation has nothing to do with it.
If one does have Catholic parents who still attend mass, it would be a mitzvah (good deed) to show them the love, honor, and respect of taking them to mass occasionally.
I don't. They both died relatively young over 20 years ago.
The scripture that permeates the mass will do one no harm, and if God and your conscience does not allow you to do all that Catholics do, that's okay too. Not a sermon, just a thought.
Scripture permeates my heart and mind daily as I read it, memorize it, and meditate on it.
I would NEVER go back to as little Scripture as I had as a Catholic. Why would I want to spiritually starve myself instead of freely feasting on the word at my leisure?
So you think that God can sin ey? Can He go back on His word?
If it was true and scriptural you all wouldn't be afraid to post it on the open forum.
Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.
Using scripture alone prove that Richard Nixon was elected President. You see that is what this part of the thread is about:. Post apostolic historical events. Don't let the facts or truth get in you way. Please keep talking.
