Why would anyone become Catholic?

Why would intelligent, successful people give up their careers, alienate their friends, and cause havoc in their families...to become Catholic? Indeed, why would anyone become Catholic?
As an evangelist and author who recently threw my own life into some turmoil by deciding to enter the Catholic Church, I've faced this question a lot lately. That is one reason I decided to make this documentary; it's part of my attempt to try to explain to those closest to me why I would do such a crazy thing.
Convinced isn't just about me, though. The film is built around interviews with some of the most articulate and compelling Catholic converts in our culture today, including Scott Hahn, Francis Beckwith, Taylor Marshall, Holly Ordway, Abby Johnson, Jeff Cavins, Devin Rose, Matthew Leonard, Mark Regnerus, Jason Stellman, John Bergsma, Christian Smith, Kevin Vost, David Currie, Richard Cole, and Kenneth Howell. It also contains special appearances by experts in the field of conversion such as Patrick Madrid and Donald Asci.
Ultimately, this is a story about finding truth, beauty, and fulfillment in an unexpected place, and then sacrificing to grab on to it. I think it will entertain and inspire you, and perhaps even give you a fresh perspective on an old faith.

Jesus could not contradict Himself. Indeed, concur
- 41And every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth shall be an abomination; it shall not be eaten. 42Whatsoever goeth upon the belly, and whatsoever goeth upon all four, or whatsoever hath more feet among all creeping things that creep upon the earth, them ye shall not eat; for they are an abomination. 43Ye shall not make yourselves abominable with any creeping thing that creepeth, neither shall ye make yourselves unclean with them, that ye should be defiled thereby. 44For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 45For I am the LORD that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.
- 15For, behold, the LORD will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire. 16For by fire and by his sword will the LORD plead with all flesh: and the slain of the LORD shall be many. 17They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the LORD. 18For I know their works and their thoughts: it shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see my glory. 19And I will set a sign among them, and I will send those that escape of them unto the nations, to Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, that draw the bow, to Tubal, and Javan, to the isles afar off, that have not heard my fame, neither have seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the Gentiles. 20And they shall bring all your brethren for an offering unto the LORD out of all nations upon horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and upon mules, and upon swift beasts, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, saith the LORD, as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the LORD. 21And I will also take of them for priests and for Levites, saith the LORD.
- 9On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour: 10And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance, 11And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth: 12Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. 13And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. 14But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. 15And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common. 16This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
- 6 For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

You are right. The blood is drained. We used to raise our own beef, pork, and chickens. I could go into details but I found it kinda disgusting back then and my opinion has not changed. We used a tree limb between the house and barn. Ok! Enough!

I grew up attending many different denominations——Assemnly of God, Church of God, Church of God of Phophecy, Hardshell Baptist, Southern Baptist, Baptist, Methodist, and interdenominational. Not one time do I remember saying The Lord’s Prayer in the main service. I do not remember if we said it in Sunday School. We did not recite it in school assemblies or devotional times in class either. Before someone starts being critical of my attending different churches, my parents knew just about everyone in the county. We were invited to their churches and we went. I had school friends in them so it was not a big deal. Everyone of them taught directly from the Bible. If there were any which did not, we did not know about them. Of course, this was in the good ole days.

But Peter did get killed eventually --- he was executed in Rome. He did not fight back. As we read in the NT, Stephen was killed. He did not defend himself, nor did others defend him. James the head of the Church in Jerusalem was killed. He did not defend himself, nor did the others defend him. Saul of Tarsus was riding from city to city with is posse arresting and imprisoning innocent, blameless Christians and even having them killed, and they did not resist nor did they arm to defend themselves. Did they? There seems to be some kind of principle in practice here.
That's all I'm saying.

I see you lashed out at many Christians here, talking of "lies" they must believe.
The first set of those contentions which you made are illogical, for the Reformation did not begin with Calvin.
As for not accepting papacy;
Ask Waldo, and let him introduce you to the Orthodox who have never accepted capital "P" Papacy -- and can prove it.
There was no papacy of Peter from the beginning of the Church -- or else everyone forgot about that for centuries -- before somehow remembering again.
One has to lie to themselves to believe that Christ made Peter the "pope".
Sorry about that Nazgul, well, not really -- other than sorry it still has you Have fun with the all the reading about and looking at the fuscia colored hat wearers at the Synod. Such a "fabulous" color dontcha' know?

Good morning. Don't know whether all of the martyrs gave up without a struggle but your points regarding Christian pacifism seem justified and are always worth reconsideration.
But not being an Adventist or a JW member, I wonder how this impacts the current discussion of the thread.

Does that mean you can not prove it from the Bible? Just curious.YOU are the one talking about post apostolic times. How do you prove post apostolic history from scripture?
Can you prove the election of Richard Nixon from Scripture?
Once again I have offered to give you the information via Freepmail if you cite a specific incident. YOU are the one that has declined repeatedly.

One more time, you have stated you will not give the truth on this forum except privately to a FReeper.
What does that make the rest of what you have posted?
Am I wrong in asking this question?
To: Mrs. Don-o
We are not told whether or not they tried to defend themselves or not. It is immaterial to the narrative. The assumption they did not is just that, an assumption.
