“So tell us, how do you “feel” about the word “papist”?”

Should already be obvious from my previous posts.

“The general principles behind the term (neutrally considered) is much what is left over as to differences, after one gives Luther his due (as Ratzinger and others have done) then followed by considerations towards men such as (the late 16th century Anglican cleric) Hooker, who upheld there being necessity of Church as institution leaves the chief remaining additional difference be form of receptionism, which Ratzinger when speaking esoterically does not appear to hold great hostility towards.”

I have no idea of what you’re saying. Honestly, reading that paragraph - which was all one sentence - is like listening to a drunk. I rarely did that so I never got good at it. When you can put that in English let me know.

“The Anglican communions which “poped” were to be allowed to retain their own liturgy — correct?”

In general form, but with significant changes and much of it was originally drawn from Catholic liturgies in the first place.

“(Or has that too now changed?)”

No. You’re just wrong as usual. That won’t change either.

“So whattda’ do we really have for the more traditional “High Church” Anglicans who don’t go a-popeing, but differing view towards Holy Communion (as the Anglicans speak of such) and — no “pope” with that rejection being as much due to the accumulated theological baggage associated with the office — particularly as to extent “authority” should best apply.”

Again, I have no idea what you’re trying to say there. That was all one sentence and it really didn’t make any sense.

“The phrase “popeing” I’ve seen used by those who also talk about “swimming the Tiber”.”

Which would mean they were satirizing anti-Catholics. And apparently it works so well that those anti-Catholics don’t even know it.

“If anyone catches sight of people who on their travels to “Rome” (to go for a swim) perchance need cross over the River Swift on their way, have ‘em wave to Wycliffe for me, and tell him I said “hi” and “thanks for everything”.”

Again, I have no idea what you’re trying to say. Even though your comments here are nonsensical. this post was worth as much as any you’re written thus far.

“Except that wasn’t what we were EVER discussing.”

Then you should clarify why you have repeatedly insisted that that wasn’t the case (i.e. your rejection of: “Roman Catholic” was invented by Protestants.)

“You still have not answered the question.”

What question? And does it matter if I do since you can’t seem to respond in intelligible English?

“Or the ones before that.”

Again, does it matter if I do since you can’t seem to respond in intelligible English?

“Or shown how the alleged extrapolation can be properly sourced from scripture — without running afoul of the same.”

That issue ended long ago - almost as soon as I started posting about it. No one here was ever able to show any verse that said “Nazarene”. Remember?

Those who take part in its Sacraments (and sacramentals) frequently, would never say what you just said.

Of course not!

They think those things are really, Really, REALLY! important and that by doing them something miraculously happens.

We PROTESTants can't find anywhere Christianity's book that it's so.

In shared declarations with NON-CATHOLIC churches the use of “Roman Catholic Church” has become standardized because so many Christians around the world have adopted the English Protestant practice of using the term. The same for recent popes.

Yet another example of how PROTESTantism is controlling you Catholics.

What a HOOT!

It absolutely does. “Romish” is a pejorative. “Popish” is a pejorative. “Roman Catholic”, likewise is a Protestant invention and was not chosen by Catholics freely.

Prots and mouthbreathers are terms of endearment...

So do I, but criticizing the Catholic faith won't make you any happier ......... or healthier.

Likewise...

So do I, but accepting the Catholic faith won't make you any happier ......... or healthier; either.

The aa-eeAAA I KEEL YOU for insulting the “prophet” [may pork be upon him] can be encountered easily enough, but for the most part on online forums there are just trolls who will insult instead of reason.

Au contraire Elsie (healthier, maybe; He fills one with "His strength and His power" via the Eucharist (one is able to become more disciplined as such and can give up bad habits easier); happier, most definitely (by way of His hope and His healing; Eucharist, Adoration and Confession).

And .............. welcome back!

Hmmm...curious...I understood everything BD said. Is this another overt attempt of yours to avoid a topic by asserting you have no idea what is being said or is it merely just another opportunity to insult, and you can’t let it pass you by? Perhaps an OPEN Religion Forum thread is not for you?

If you expect that, you should stop moving the goalposts and stay on topic instead of attempting gotcha games. Try it sometimes.

“Yet another example of how PROTESTantism is controlling you Catholics.”

I never said that so once again we see how anti-Catholics just make things up.

“Prots and mouthbreathers are terms of endearment...”

I say “Protestants”. I have used the term “mouthbreathers” in reference to Protestant anti-Catholics. It is an accurate description whether endearing or not.

“Hmmm...curious...I understood everything BD said.”

Great. Now explain this:

“The general principles behind the term (neutrally considered) is much what is left over as to differences, after one gives Luther his due (as Ratzinger and others have done) then followed by considerations towards men such as (the late 16th century Anglican cleric) Hooker, who upheld there being necessity of Church as institution leaves the chief remaining additional difference be form of receptionism, which Ratzinger when speaking esoterically does not appear to hold great hostility towards.”

Seriously, what on earth does “is much what is left over as to differences” mean?

“Is this another overt attempt of yours to avoid a topic by asserting you have no idea what is being said or is it merely just another opportunity to insult, and you can’t let it pass you by?”

Nope. I really have NO IDEA WHAT HE IS TRYING TO SAY. The paragraph makes no sense.

“Perhaps an OPEN Religion Forum thread is not for you?”

We’ll see. Explain his paragraph, in detail. Have at it.

I’ve never moved the goalposts. I have always said “Roman Catholic” is an English Protestant invention as the OED makes clear. That’s not a ‘gotcha game’. That’s just the truth.
